[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1576685] Re: Disable touchpad while typing is not active nor can it be enabled
Hi, the synaptics (libinput also installed) package work well for me in 16.04 (and previous version to 12.04 at least) up to 17.04 on thinkpads (x2XX to carbon X1). Currently using carbon x1 5th gen. There is however some form of instability with settings that affects many users including me. Sometimes the disable while typing feature stops working and reinstall of libinput and synaptics drivers help. I.e, reinstall xserver-xorg- input-synaptics and -libinput as well as running: gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#Touchpad_not_working_after_login However, what perplexes me is that the gnome desktop (gnome default) does not work with synaptics disable while typing when it clearly works in unity at the same time. I'm testing gnome before 18.04 and login in/out between both desktops, with the exact same settings (gconf, drivers etc). Currently I'm writing this in gnome and the cursor skips with random artefacts that make the keyboard defunct. In unity it works perfectly (two finger scroll, trackpoint etc works). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1687191] Re: psmouse broken for thinkpad touchpad on carbon x1 5th gen
FYI: while trying to get the "disable keyboard while typing" back online (is set to true in gconf and I'm testing gnome now before 18.04) the touchpad got disabled for some reason. I only changed one setting in gconf which should not disable the touchpad on login. Had to reinstall xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and -libinput as well as running: gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#Touchpad_not_working_after_login However, still no luck with the disable keyboard while typing. Hi, I got the exact same syslog message and also use a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with Swedish keyboard. However, my trackpoint and mouse seem to work as expected. I.e., besides the syslog message. Two finger scrolling does as well. It also worked in 16.04, 16.10 and is currently working in 17.04 (upgraded two days ago). Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1613863] Re: Fails to power off monitor when locking screen
Hi, and thanks for looking in to this. It's been a "while" so i had to pull some information from a post I made at the ubuntu forum. Quote: Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I looked in the log-file and found a lot of references to Nouveau (My god thats hard to spell/remember!). Some how i have overlooked Ubuntu has changed back to Nouveau when I installed a 4.6 Kernel (I dont understand how since usually it fails when installing the headers. My guess is this time I installed the new Kernel before the Nvidia driver). I reinstalled the Nvidia driver and broke my system (It loaded the log-in screen over and over after logging in, most of you have seen this i think). Switched to TTY and purged the kernel (4.6) and nvidia drivers. Rebooted and installed a 4.5 kernel then Nvidia drivers (361) and now everything works. I then switched back to Nouveau and the same problem reappeared! So the problem is Nouveau PS: Ubuntu should really make it easier to report bugs, i just gave up... got the run aroundobviously I have overcome my Ignorance with apport. Hope this helps. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/inspiron-1720/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A09). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365086] [NEW] Cannot move touchpad by less than ~50 pixels at a time
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo Y50 UHD (3840×2160) with a ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad. When I try to move the cursor by a very small amount (a few pixels), by slowly rolling my finger, there is no movement at all until I’ve moved at least 50 pixels or so. Then the cursor jumps* those 50 pixels all at once. If I continue moving my finger slowly, I can make nice pixel-by- pixel movements, so the touchpad clearly supports the required precision. But the initial jump makes it very frustrating to point at small targets that are close to the initial cursor location. I always have to move the cursor away, then move it back, then adjust to hit the target without lifting my finger. I noticed the HorizHysteresis and VertHysteresis options, which default to 19 here, but reducing them has no effect. * This initial jump is animated, even, which is frankly just insulting. It’s as if somebody noticed already this bug and tried to cover it up by making it look like the user’s fault! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 989626] [NEW] Danish Dvorak keyboard layout missing tilde
Public bug reported: Danish Dvorak keyboard layout is just a copy of Norwegian Dvorak created by including the xkb definition for Norwegian Dvorak in the Danish Dvorak section. Apparently Norwegian Dvorak was changed in 12.04 to no longer have the tilde key in the same place. It was correctly placed in 11.10. This is easily fixed by adding the AD12-key from Norwegian Dvorak in 11.10 to the right section in Danish Dvorak in 12.04. This change goes into /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/dk. I have attached a patch. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working
I think Sven is right in his assumption that the touchpad freeze is caused by two syndaemon instances getting out of sync. On my system I find consistent correlation between touchpad freezing and two syndaemon instances running. What puzzles me is why I don't always have two syndaemon instances running. I have found that if I cold boot and log in as UserA or UserB I most of the time have only one syndaemon instance and have no problem. If I log out from UserA and then log in as UserB I still (most of the time) have only one syndaemon instance. If I then log out UserB and log in as UserA again, I always have two syndaemon instances and I consistently get a touchpad freeze if my first keyboard activity in the new session is ctrl-alt-T followed by arrow up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868400 Title: Synaptics touchpad stops working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/868400/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
