20.04 still has this problem.
I'm on a HP Zbook 15u G6.

It seems that xinput only can handle values of max 1, which in my case
is all to slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1916950] [NEW] Screen fails to wake up after sleep

2021-02-25 Thread Anders Aagaard
Public bug reported:

It looks an awful lot like this issue :
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1427.

I'm hitting these:
[11596.268677] [drm:dce112_get_pix_clk_dividers [amdgpu]] *ERROR*
dce112_get_pix_clk_dividers: Invalid parameters!!
[11596.269781] [drm:dm_restore_drm_connector_state [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Restoring
old state failed with -22

Switching to tty2 wakes it up and allows me to switch back and recover
my xorg session.

Should this be filed against the kernel, xorg, or amd drivers? I'm not
sure..

slightly too long after I have stopped typing. The unity version works

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1576685] Re: Disable touchpad while typing is not active nor can it be enabled

2017-06-15 Thread Anders Hall
Hi, the synaptics (libinput also installed) package work well for me in
16.04 (and previous version to 12.04 at least) up to 17.04 on thinkpads
(x2XX to carbon X1). Currently using carbon x1 5th gen. There is however
some form of instability with settings that affects many users including
me.

Sometimes the disable while typing feature stops working and reinstall
of libinput and synaptics drivers help. I.e, reinstall xserver-xorg-
input-synaptics and -libinput as well as running:

gconftool-2 --set --type boolean
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#Touchpad_not_working_after_login

However, what perplexes me is that the gnome desktop (gnome default) does not
work with synaptics disable while typing when it clearly works in unity at the
same time. I'm testing gnome before 18.04 and login in/out between both
desktops, with the exact same settings (gconf, drivers etc).

Currently I'm writing this in gnome and the cursor skips with random artefacts
that make the keyboard defunct. In unity it works perfectly (two finger scroll,
trackpoint etc works).

The "disable keyboard while typing" problem only affects Gnome (default)
for some reason. In Unity (7) on Ubuntu 17.04 everything works
perfectly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1687191] Re: psmouse broken for thinkpad touchpad on carbon x1 5th gen

2017-06-14 Thread Anders Hall
FYI: while trying to get the "disable keyboard while typing" back online
(is set to true in gconf and I'm testing gnome now before 18.04) the
touchpad got disabled for some reason. I only changed one setting in
gconf which should not disable the touchpad on login. Had to reinstall
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and -libinput as well as running:

gconftool-2 --set --type boolean
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#Touchpad_not_working_after_login

However, still no luck with the disable keyboard while typing. Otherwise
everything works as stated before. Perhaps you have the same gconf mixup
@Fredrik

2017-06-14 Thread Anders Hall
Hi, I got the exact same syslog message and also use a Lenovo ThinkPad
X1 Carbon 5th Gen with Swedish keyboard. However, my trackpoint and
mouse seem to work as expected. I.e., besides the syslog message. Two
finger scrolling does as well. It also worked in 16.04, 16.10 and is
currently working in 17.04 (upgraded two days ago). I have noticed the
cursor skips in the text but have not excluded if it is the touchpad
that is enabled while typing.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1613863] Fails to power off monitor when locking screen

2016-11-09 Thread Anders Magnus Andersen
I did an install and the bug is still there:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
nouveau/+bug/1640637 <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-
xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1640637>

(Now to chroot and fix 16.04… I made the mistake of thinking it would recognize
it and add it to grub… sloppy me)

2016-09-20 Thread Anders Magnusson
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 16.04 and a pretty modern workstation. Every once in a
while (some times every other day, sometimes three times a day) X
crashes and I'm kicked out to the login screen.

I understand that this is probably not enough information, but please
let me know what more info you need and I'll try to get it.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1613863] Re: Fails to power off monitor when locking screen

2016-09-06 Thread Anders Magnus Andersen
Hi, and thanks for looking in to this. It's been a "while" so i had to
pull some information from a post I made at the ubuntu forum.
Quote:
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I looked in the log-file and found a lot of references to Nouveau (My
god thats hard to spell/remember!). Some how i have overlooked Ubuntu
has changed back to Nouveau when I installed a 4.6 Kernel (I dont
understand how since usually it fails when installing the headers. My
guess is this time I installed the new Kernel before the Nvidia
driver). I reinstalled the Nvidia driver and broke my system (It loaded
the log-in screen over and over after logging in, most of you have seen
this i think). Switched to TTY and purged the kernel (4.6) and nvidia
drivers. Rebooted and installed a 4.5 kernel then Nvidia drivers (361)
and now everything works.

I then switched back to Nouveau and the same problem reappeared! So the
problem is Nouveau
PS: Ubuntu should really make it easier to report bugs, i just gave
up... got the run aroundobviously I have overcome my Ignorance with apport.
Hope this helps.
Best regards
Anders

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1522727] Re: X.org crashes intermittently, randomly, back to the login screen

2016-07-28 Thread Anders Magnusson
Maybe not the right place to ask this, but how can I get a full stack
trace instead of these "3: ?? [0x562010113310]"?

I've installed dbg-packages of xserver-xorg-core and xserver-xorg-video-
intel.

I also get these random crashes, in 16.04. Is this still not fixed? Or
should I open a separate bug report for that?

And then I copied this file (radeon_dri.so.dpkg-new) back to
./usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/ as root. I don't know if this bug was
because I changed the default graphics driver when installing Ubuntu?
This is not my only computer, so it's been a while since I've been using

I went into ./usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/ in Nautilus as root and just
copied radeon_dri.so to another folder where I renamed it radeon_dri.so
.dpkg-new. So now it doesn't complain!

I have had trouble before with my graphics drivers on this computer
showing incorrectly on the screen, it's being underscanned and showing
black corners in Windows 8.1, but it shows just fine under Ubuntu
thankfully!

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1454989] Re: Freeze after boot

2015-05-16 Thread anders
Hi Christopher,

Thank you for the information. I have updated the BIOS as described in:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DellBIOS

anders@inspiron:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
A09
07/11/2008

Hope this solves the few issues I have seen.

Best regards
Anders

christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com:

anders, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
 per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/inspiron-1720/drivers an update to your computer's buggy
and outdated BIOS is available (A09). If you update to this following
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide
the output of the following terminal command:
 sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
 .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

 Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365086] [NEW] Cannot move touchpad by less than ~50 pixels at a time

2014-09-03 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Y50 UHD (3840×2160) with a ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad.
When I try to move the cursor by a very small amount (a few pixels), by
slowly rolling my finger, there is no movement at all until I’ve moved
at least 50 pixels or so. Then the cursor jumps* those 50 pixels all at
once. If I continue moving my finger slowly, I can make nice pixel-by-
pixel movements, so the touchpad clearly supports the required
precision. But the initial jump makes it very frustrating to point at
small targets that are close to the initial cursor location. I always
have to move the cursor away, then move it back, then adjust to hit the
target without lifting my finger.

I noticed the HorizHysteresis and VertHysteresis options, which default
to 19 here, but reducing them has no effect.

* This initial jump is animated, even, which is frankly just insulting.
It’s as if somebody noticed already this bug and tried to cover it up by
making it look like the user’s fault!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 8177] Re: vbetool should subsume ddcprobe, use x86emu

2014-05-10 Thread Anders
How is this solved?
Im guessing the workaround is using EDID to fetch display info

Im trying to use DDC/CI to query/control my monitor and ddcprobe seems
to be one way to do it but the only thing i get is VESA BIOS Extensions
not detected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993506] Re: nvidia-current 295.40-0ubuntu1: nvidia-current kernel module failed to build

2012-05-02 Thread Anders Kaseorg
asm/system.h was intentionally dropped upstream in v3.4-rc1~54:
http://git.kernel.org/linus/0195c002
So nvidia will need to be updated to deal with this.

The other three headers (asm/compiler.h, asm/system_info.h,
asm/system_misc.h) are ARM-specific and have never been part of x86.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 989626] [NEW] Danish Dvorak keyboard layout missing tilde

2012-04-27 Thread Anders Bruun Olsen
Public bug reported:

Danish Dvorak keyboard layout is just a copy of Norwegian Dvorak created
by including the xkb definition for Norwegian Dvorak in the Danish
Dvorak section. Apparently Norwegian Dvorak was changed in 12.04 to no
longer have the tilde key in the same place. It was correctly placed in
11.10. This is easily fixed by adding the AD12-key from Norwegian Dvorak
in 11.10 to the right section in Danish Dvorak in 12.04. This change
goes into /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/dk. I have attached a patch.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 630203] Re: Macintosh keyboard layout is wrong

2012-04-15 Thread Anders Nor Berle
The norwegian mac keyboard layout is wrong as well, using a normal apple
usb keyboard. I found the following symbol replacement fixed the
problem, could this please be updated in ubuntu?

No difference on 12.3 here either (nor the version included at the
moment in 12.04). This is a major letdown for the user experience in an
LTS-release.

I can confirm that this bug is still here in Precise Alpha 2, fully
updated as of today, using the fglrx drivers from the Ubuntu
repositories.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-12-11 Thread Anders Frisk
I think Sven is right in his assumption that the touchpad freeze is caused by
two syndaemon instances getting out of sync.
On my system I find consistent correlation between touchpad freezing and two
syndaemon instances running.
What puzzles me is why I don't always have two syndaemon instances running. I
have found that if I cold boot and log in as UserA or UserB I most of the
time have only one syndaemon instance and have no problem. If I log out from
UserA and then log in as UserB I still (most of the time) have only one
syndaemon instance. If I then log out UserB and log in as UserA again, I always
have two syndaemon instances and I consistently get a touchpad freeze if my
first keyboard activity in the new session is ctrl-alt-T followed by arrow up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725116] Re: Garbled desktop LiveCD 11.04 alpha2 HP Nvidia 7150M

2011-11-09 Thread Anders Frisk
Can confirm that this bug is NOT present in 11.10 oneiric LiveCD.

I figured out some way to work around the original bug in Natty LiveCD,
involving turning off TV out interface and configure monitor via cli.
Unfortunately I didn't document the exact process.

** Tags added: apport-collected reproducible ubuntu

** Description changed:

- After connecting an external monitor, the touchpad starts moving much
- faster in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction, as if
- the screen area had been stretched rather than extended to include the
- area of both monitors. This is really disorienting, throws off muscle
- memory, makes it hard to move in the right diagonal direction, etc.
- Reproduced in both natty and oneiric.
