[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1657875] Re: Google Chrome flickers badly on web pages
Let me break it down for you, the BIOS is NOT out of date in regards to any of the Intel video BIOS portions. Version 2.27 has the same Intel video BIOS extension that 2.29 contains. It is foolish to update BIOS's just because you can, generally you do them because something is broken, but in this case, the broken portion is NOT because of the BIOS at all. If the devs over there at Canonical had a brain on their head, you could have easily determined this by grabbing any of your same CPU/GPU type laptops and ran 16.04 with Chrome. In fact, many people have already explained this countless times only to have had their time wasted. Fact is, Xorg people already now know about the bug, and know it is a fault with Xorg, but sadly, they have not fully found the issue as to why. So this bug report is a bust. My time was in fact wasted, and yes I will call out and accuse those who make people go through hoops that will not resolve it. You are the dev, correct? So once again, the portion of the BIOS that needs to be update, IS already up to date, none of the other fixes are related to this, and being Xorg already knows that a BIOS update won't resolve it, I refuse to update my BIOS for no reason other than your explained reason which IS the invalid step to pursue. This bug IS a personal matter because the flickering almost gave my epileptic friend a seizure, and you bet I won't have my time wasted. It took almost 10 days to get a response from you, it's taken MANY others months to get any response. This issue was not a problem before 16.04, and so far since being on 16.10, it's gone away again. It IS a 16.04 problem, and for an LTS release, you WILL fix the problem, either be it by backporting the Xorg drivers, or anything you need to do. I am done with this bug report, go fix it yourself. I already fixed it because my workaround IS valid. And for my one last remaining same laptop on 16.04, it has permanently fixed the issue, and works faster with higher framerates in GL games. PS: I am a long time Linux user, for 17 years in fact. This isn't my first go at getting things fixed, but I'll be damned if I sit here and have a dev who IS wasting my time, and not familiar with the Xorg bug reports on this same matter. Goodbye, I'm done here. I'll setup my own PPA to fix this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1657875 Title: Google Chrome flickers badly on web pages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1657875/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1657875] Re: Google Chrome flickers badly on web pages
I am not trying out testing versions, I'm sorry, but you guys have wasted a lot of our time, you and the Xorg team. It's a joke really. You added the tag "bios-outdated" there's nothing outdated about my BIOS so I don't know where you think that's an appropriate tag. I'm sorry but testing zesty on a production computer is not an acceptable thing to do, if non of your devs have an i7 Haswell or higher with this issue, you simply aren't trying hard enough to find it. I already explained what the fix is, and if Zesty doesn't have it, I'm not wasting time. These machines for work are to stay on LTS, so it is your duty to fix it. Can't claim to have long-term-support, if your support is literally like this.

I can now officially confirm, that simply doing as you mentioned: sudo nano /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "intel" Option "AccelMethod" "sna" Option "TearFree""true" Option "DRI""3" EndSection Has FIXED the issue entirely. I have been trying a few of the recommended changes, and so far, Force rasterization on all layers didn't work. It was less of an issue but not completely gone. I have now moved on to the one you mentioned, using sna and dri 3.0. I thought these were default options though? Either way I forced it, and so far so good for now. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1582471] Re: Add focus/unfocus event passing for Xmir non-rootless mode
I just got the OSK working on the phone... and again the *focus* is never lost. Mainly the issue being when the phone locks. You turn the screen back on and the osk is still open for the lxc application. You can still type to it and it all goes to that app. Need to figure something out for this...and it does appear to be an xmir issue? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1582471 Title: Add focus/unfocus event passing for Xmir non-rootless mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1582471/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1582471] Re: Add focus/unfocus event passing for Xmir non-rootless mode
The thing is, the shell does tell the osk to hide or rather it gives enough info off that the window should know that its time to hide. Im assuming this is true based on U8 window normally hide when you click on a different window or a new window is mapped above it. The only issue seems to be LXC/XMir windows? Shouldnt this mean, in xmir if we get a loss of focus we should tell the window it so the toolkits know we've lost focus? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1582471] Re: Add focus/unfocus event passing for Xmir non-rootless mode
Should make sense. Whats needed is when a window losses focus, ie. its no longer on the top of the stack. This is the broken part. The input area lossing focus... i need to double check. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1411300] Re: Radeon flickering line after sleep
** Description changed: Since Ubuntu 14.10, no matter what DE or version of Ubuntu (Xubuntu, Kubuntu), after sleep there is a flickering line at the bottom of my screen. For Kubuntu, it can be prevented by simply requiring a password after resume. For Unity, running unity --replace works as a workaround, and for Xubuntu, it's random as to whatever fixes it or not. It has been an annoyance, but I don't want to go back to an earlier version of Ubuntu, as the Radeon driver in 14.10, actually now allows me to use WebGL in Chrome, and things like Google Maps.. (it was a big problem as the previous radeon driver had a lot of bugs on this GPU, most of which were in fact fixed). I also can't use FGLRX, because for whatever reason, it is actually slower than Ubuntu 14.10's included open source driver (weird, I know, right?) The driver is generally perfect, except this problem with the flickering line. I am using the VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series]. Please assist, because this is a laptop, and can't just change graphics cards (I would if it was the solution though), and well, hitting hard times, so switching laptops isn't a choice. Besides, it's only 3 years old and still does everything I need done. I made a video demonstrating the flickering line at the bottom of the screen on resume from sleep. Sometimes videos explain things better than words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-t3K95g898 + I would also like to add that I have completely reformatted the hard + drive and reinstalled many other versions of Ubuntu, to find that 14.10 + literally is the only one having this issue. + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.4.0-2ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-29.39-generic 3.16.7-ckt2 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-29-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Thu Jan 15 11:05:03 2015 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-01-05 (10 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn - Release amd64 (20141022.1) SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-ati UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1411300 Title: Radeon flickering line after sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1411300/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1389300] [NEW] Display frozen during sleep
Public bug reported: When the computer goes to sleep, it freezes to a black screen with a single text cursor frozen (not blinking.). If I try to go to TTY1, it goes there, but upon entering my user name, it freezes and doesn't do anything. This happened since I got a mysterious Ubuntu 14.10 update. (It didn't ask me if I wanted to update, it just popped up saying I needed to reboot my computer, and I couldn't find any records as to what update it actually was). I have tried both Xubuntu (what I'm using now) and regular Ubuntu, both are doing the same thing. Sleep mode used to work just fine since 13.10, now it's broken. This is a laptop and needs sleep mode to work, as I can't sit there waiting for the machine to boot every time. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599993] Re: 1920x1080 resolution not available for Dell ST2410 display
Hi Chris, Unfortunately, the laptop with the ATI card in it is now broken and I currently don't have access to the Dell monitor. Sorry, I won't be able to check to see if this problem has been resolved. On Sun, Jan 5, 2014 at 11:56 PM, Christopher M. Penalver christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com wrote: Brandon, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1258579] [NEW] New threads API index different then context after an eglMakeCurrent.
Public bug reported: Say you have 2 threads A/B. Thread A: Starts running application, does an eglBindAPI(OPENGL), so the threads API index is 2 eglMakeCurrent(context) --- The contexts API is 2 renders stuff start to swtich over to thread B eglMakeCurrent(EGL_NO_CONTEXT, EGL_NO_SURFACE) ... etc. Thread B: New thread created. Defaults the API index to OPENGL_ES. So the threads API index is 0. eglcurrent.c:149: t-CurrentAPIIndex = _eglConvertApiToIndex(EGL_OPENGL_ES_API); eglMakeCurrent(context) --- The contexts API index is 2 --The Problem-- When it gets down to _eglBindContextToThread, it uses the contexts API index. So it binds the context to index 2, and returns TRUE. On the next eglSwapBuffers, it does an _eglGetCurrentContext(), which uses the threads API index, which is 0. This returns an EGL_NO_CONTEXT (0x0), causing EGL_BAD_SURFACE, causing lots of other fun problems after. Mainly, after this happens, no rendering is possible. _eglBindContextToThread:459 uses: apiIndex = (ctx) ? _eglConvertApiToIndex(ctx-ClientAPI) : t-CurrentAPIIndex; To get the api index. _eglGetCurrentContext: return t-CurrentContexts[t-CurrentAPIIndex]; So possibly, when a context is bound to a thread it should check if the threads api index != context api index, if so then set the threads api index to the contexts api index. ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Chris Halse Rogers (raof) Status: New ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Chris Halse Rogers (raof) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258579 Title: New threads API index different then context after an eglMakeCurrent. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1089512] [NEW] USB devices stop working
Public bug reported: A few weeks ago my usb keyboard stopped working one day so I unplugged it and pluged it in, it seemed to be dead as not even the numlock key would come on. So I ordered a newer wireless mouse and keyboard combo to replace it. Now the wireless mouse will randomly just stop working, the red light under it is still glowing. Also the keyboard still works, both the mouse and the keyboard use the same usb reciver. If I unplug the reciver and plug it in again nothing USB can be plugged in again until a reboot, they do not even power up. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704607] [NEW] Packaging issues in nvidia-current
Public bug reported: Several issues exist with the 260 blob as packaged currently in Natty. A new file has been added to the shared libs, libnvcuvid.so.$version. It needs to be installed. Also, the 32-bit links file adds links to the file libXvMCNVIDIA.so.$version, except that file is not being installed by the rules file, so the links are broken. Both of those files can be installed by adding; dh_install -p$(PKG_driver) $(dirname_x86)/libnvcuvid.so* $(PKG_libdir32) dh_install -p$(PKG_driver) $(dirname_x86)/libXvMCNVIDIA.so.* $(PKG_libdir32) to the empty lines 247 and 250 in the rules file. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656235] Re: radeon 0000:02:00.0: ffff880190de7c00 reserve failed for wait
This also affects me on 10.10 Maverick (up-to-date). 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 5B60 [Radeon X300 (PCIE)] 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 [Radeon X300SE] dmesg is full of radeon :01:00.0: reserve failed for wait If I try to switch users, I get a black screen, sometimes with random artifacts on the screen. I can use Ctrl-Alt-FX to switch to VTs. I think I got back to a sane state by switching back to the original logged in user and logging out, then the login screen for the user I was trying to switch to was displayed and I was able to login. So, login/logout works fine, but only for a single user at a time. I can't have multiple users logged in at the same time. Disabling the fancy graphical interface elements does not help. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661925] [NEW] ubuntu reverts to log in screen when power cord is unplugged
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I am using a Gateway netbook, product number: LT 2001 u When switching from power to battery or “suspend” to on, the Ubuntu Netbook remix automatically suspends itself. When pressing the on button, the log-in frame appears. After typing in the first letter of my password, a series of black dots (how typing shows itself when I type in my password) runs for about a 6-7 seconds with out stopping. I can then delete all the dots (text) and type in my password. The log-in reject the password and opens up a new log-in screen. I can then type in my password and everything responds as normal again. This bug only happens sometimes when switching from “suspended” to on, but almost always when switching from power to battery. Well I feel stupid, I just found a simple fix. I thought I had looked through Catalyst Control Center thouroughly, but apparently I had not. In Catalyst Control Center: Display Manager -- DTV -- Adjustments Under Scaling Options move the bar all the way to the left (0%) Apply. I wonder why the control center defaults to scaling the desktop down, though. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478859] Re: [i945GM] Multiple monitors not supported
Clone works upon Logging In. If you Log In without being connected to the second monitor, you will not be able to use the second monitor for that session. Logging Out and Logging In again will allow you to use the second monitor. Switching Users (not logging out) and switching back to the first account will NOT allow you to use the second monitor. You can, however, use the second monitor on any other account (and the login screen). In short: Can only use monitors that are connected at the time of Login. Disconnecting (after login) and reconnecting at a later time (without logging out) does not prevent you from using the second monitor. Sometimes, however, the mouse is stuck in the same place (wherever it was when you disconnected) on the second monitor (does not affect the first monitor - at least in my case). Not sure if any of that will help - hope it does though. -- [i945GM] Multiple monitors not supported https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/478859 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5
It looks like the driver binaries in the Lucid archive were copied over from the Karmic archive, where they were built against Karmic's xserver packages, and they have not been rebuilt against Lucid's xserver packages. So that's why the nvidia blob is providing the older xserver-xorg-video virtual package. On Wed, Dec 30, 2009 at 10:04 AM, Curtis Lee Bolin curtlee2...@gmail.comwrote: yes, you are correct. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5
I can probably get VLC 1.1git working with libva/vdpau-video but I need a new refresh of ffmpeg to do it. Currently, ffmpeg is broken upstream and will be until January or later. However, building VLC for use with va-api and vdpau is high on my list of things to do. On Wed, Dec 23, 2009 at 2:26 AM, Harry harry.kaasine...@elisanet.fi wrote: Thanks, Brandon, for this info. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5
Harry, thanks for the info on the problem with the Nvidia Vdpau PPA. The problem with the xserver-xorg-video-5 instead of 6 was due to my initial laziness in just copying the binaries from Karmic over the Lucid. I have corrected it by building the drivers against Lucid. The new 190/195 driver in the PPA should support Lucid, and do provide xserver-xorg- video-6. Also, I have packaged them to use the external libvdpau, which is close to how the blob will be packaged in Lucid and beyond. I updated nvidia- common to use the 190/195 modaliases packages so jockey can be used to install the drivers -- no need to mess with nvidia-xconfig or directly edit xorg.conf. I also packaged vdpauinfo which can be installed as an informational tool. Harry wrote I wonder what is there that takes so long to get the latest stable drivers into Ubuntu main repos. There are a great number of scripts which must be painstakingly changed each time a new blob is released. One mistake, just one little oversight can result in a showstopper. -- [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494166 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478859] [NEW] Multiple monitors not supported
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I am using an IBM Thinkpad R60 with Intel Integrated Graphics. Upon plugging in my second monitor (LCD TV), both my laptop's monitor and the TV go black... the mouse can be seen on the left side of the TV (to the right of my laptop's monitor)... but I cannot move the mouse. If I boot Ubuntu 9.10 with the monitor already plugged in, the 'Mirror' functionality works, but when I go to System Preferences Display, both screens turn black (exactly the same as when I plug in the second monitor). I was able to use my second monitor as an extension of my current desktop with 9.04 with only small bugs here and there.
