[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1853221] [NEW] Two monitors displaying same image

2019-11-19 Thread Cameron Vigil
Public bug reported:

I am using two monitors, they both are displaying the same image. In
settings, only one monitor is recognized (technically they have the same
name, though). I have tried to go into arandr to see what I could do but
only one monitor is recognized there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1820884] Re: Odd behavior in xorg with libinput

2019-03-21 Thread Cameron Holman
** Summary changed:

- Odd behavior in qt apps with libinput
+ Odd behavior in xorg with libinput

** Description changed:

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqo16hLQWSY=youtu.be
- Demonstrated using qdirstat. Similar behavior in calibre and the desktop menu
of retroarch. In qdirstat, it wants to select the cells when I click on one of
them. In retroarch it likes to select the text on the welcome screen as well.
In the boxes to the right, the file name doesn't display until I move my mouse
after I click on one of them. These issues do not appear while the synaptics
touchpad driver is installed, so libinput may be the culprit.
+ Demonstrated using qdirstat. Similar behavior in k4dirstat, the qt desktop
menu of retroarch, gnu octave. In qdirstat, it wants to select the cells when I
click on one of them. In retroarch it likes to select the text on the welcome
screen as well. In the boxes to the right, the file name doesn't display until
I move my mouse after I click on one of them. In octave my mouse wants to
highlight the welcome text. These issues do not appear while the synaptics
touchpad driver is installed, so libinput may be the culprit.
The wine version of WinDirStat works fine with either input driver.

  Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
  xserver-xorg-input-libinput 0.27.1-1
  libqt5gui5 5.9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu2
  qdirstat 1.4-2

There is another potentially unrelated issue I've been having, which
also doesn't appear when using the synaptics driver, in which when I
click on one of my created bookmarks on the left side of nautilus, my
mouse appears to automatically drag the bookmark, as if I wanted to move
it to a new location, much like how it drags the cells or text in qt,
  but in gtk.
+
+ None of these issues appear when I log in using Ubuntu Wayland.

2016-05-09 Thread Cameron Graham
Encountering this problem after upgrading from 15.04 to 16.04, via

previously after initial upgrade to 16.04, but have since removed it.

On the 7th or the 8th, the xorg edgers repo updated. The driver i was
using is nvidia-340. I don't exactly know how this works but it deleted
my xorg.conf file and did so on every relog and reboot. I had had this
problem a few months back but I was able to work around it by setting
the xorg.conf file to read-only, using the command sudo 'chattr +i
xorg.conf'. I tried the same thing this time around but the xorg log
keeps saying that the driver doesnt exist. I'll attach the log if i
find it.

More to the point, in my last successful install, after installing the
driver, i just had to run nvidia-xconfig the for the driver to work.
This time around, none of the programs that are usually installed have
been installed, no nvidia-persistenced, no nvidia-xconfig, no nvidia-
smi. The only thing that comes is nvidia-detector.

When i force xorg to use the same xorg.conf as before, by giving it
readonly attribute so that it isnt autodeleted, xorg log says

I have the same problem with the rest of the rest of the nvidia drivers
i've tried including: nvidia-current, nvidia-331, nvidia-343,
nvidia-346.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1395404] [NEW] Screen brightness never listens

2014-11-22 Thread Cameron Whiting
Public bug reported:

I can never get the screen brightness to obey me on ubuntu. It's to the
point where I'd move to Mint. The setting is simply a checkbox in the
settings, and when unchecked, apparently the screen still follows the
90 seconds until dimming the screen.

It should stay bright :/

For me on 13.04, although the error message in Xorg.log was the same, it
turned out to be caused by #714492 (plymouth).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1094451] Re: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad right-click does not work on Samsung NP900X4C, 12.04

2013-01-08 Thread Cameron Smith
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise referred-by-support running-
unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

I have two identical spec NP900X4C laptops. On one I installed 12.10,
  on the other 12.04.

On 12.10 the touchpad works fine, including right-click.

On 12.04 the touchpad works fine, EXCEPT for right-click. The standard
settings options do not correct this problem.

I tried following the Enabling right button click instructions at
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection however the enable-
rightbutton.sh script bailed out claiming the right-click area was not
defined. The issue is also simpler than the mixture of problems
  reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933707

I therefore used xinput list-props on both devices to compare the
settings for the touchpad. I discovered that on 12.04 Synaptics Soft
Button Areas is set to all 0s, whereas on 12.10 it has specific
  settings.

I therefore applied the following command and the right-button immediately
worked fine. I opened this bug so that the correct setting for this model of
touchpad can be included in the standard 12.04 package.
   xinput set-prop device-id property-id 1630, 0, 1871, 0, 0, 0, 0,0

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1094451] [NEW] ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad right-click does not work on Samsung NP900X4C, 12.04

2012-12-29 Thread Cameron Smith
Public bug reported:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1074486] [NEW] Window Manager Decorations and Toolbars do not appear, ALT-TAB does not work

2012-11-02 Thread Cameron Smith
Public bug reported:

This is a clean install on a new machine.

The machine does not have a CD/DVD drive and was not able to boot from
USB using the 12.10 Desktop installer.

Therefore I installed 12.04 from USB and immediately performed apt-get
dist-upgrade to 12.10.

The machine boots to a console (tty1) rather than an X screen. If I
start X manually via startx, the desktop loads a blank desktop.
The power bar and toolbar at the top don't appear. However if I right-
click I can create folders and from there launch the file explorer.
From this I can run individual gnome programs fine however they do not
show the normal window decorations (minimize, maximize, close), and they
cannot be dragged.

So it seems as if some basic package or configuration was not installed
by ubuntu-desktop. I believe that this weird window manager behaviour
stems from the same root cause as the machine not booting to X.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1074486] Re: Window Manager Decorations and Toolbars do not appear, ALT-TAB does not work

2012-11-02 Thread Cameron Smith
This was fixed by bringing up a terminal from within the crippled desktop, and
then executing:
  unity --reset

The Window Manager started working correctly.

Upon reboot, the machine booted to X and showed the graphical login
screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 430919] Re: xserver cannot read V_BIOS of second graphics card

2010-11-23 Thread David Cameron
Thank you for that very succinct answer. It has been difficult to get
information on exactly what configurations are supported. Am I correct
in interpreting your answer that nouveau also does not support this
configuration? I have tried 10.10 with nouveau with similar results. I
could never get the nvidia driver with 10.04 to be stable, X crashes
were commonplace.

Thanks again,
Dave cameron

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 430919] Re: xserver cannot read V_BIOS of second graphics card

2010-11-21 Thread David Cameron
My problem is exactly as the OP describes. I am running 10.04 AMD64
with 2 nvidia cards GE Force 5200 GE Force 7200. Whichever card is
set as primary in bios works fine. Running X -configure from a terminal
creates what appears to be a viable xorg.conf for two cards, but X does
not start, and Xorg.0.log ends with

(EE) NV(1): Cannot read V_BIOS (3) Input/output error

relevant lines from lspci:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 SE/7200
GS] (rev a1)
04:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200]
(rev a1)

Please let me know if I should open a new bug report or provide
additional information.

Thanks,

Dave cameron

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-11-05 Thread David Cameron
I am seeing a similar problem with a new install of Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64
with Nvidia 173... drivers and two video cards. It does appear to be a
race condition, however the fix from post #68 does not work for me.

The problem can be reliably reproduced (or not) with the following
steps:

1. log in normally.
2. activate switch user in the gui; a new xsession starts with a password
entry box
3. enter the password. when typing in the password, the 'dots' in the password
box do not echo immediately.
4. now do one of two things:
  a. immediately hit enter - the new session starts with the wrong theme
  b. wait until the 'dots' echo before hitting enter - the new session starts
correctly with the correct theme.

looking at .xsession-errors , the difference between a 'good' login and
a 'bad' one appears to be:

** (gnome-settings-daemon:4748): WARNING **: You can only run one
xsettings manager at a time; exiting

** (gnome-settings-daemon:4748): WARNING **: Unable to start xsettings manager:
Could not initialize xsettings manager.
Failed to play sound: Sound disabled
Unable to find a synaptics device.

Hope that helps locate the problem.

Dave C.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557744] Re: [arrandale] lucid beta 2 live shows black screen

2010-07-21 Thread Cameron Matheson
Any word on if the patch listed in comments #69 and #70 will work on a
Lucid kernel?

Here is how installed Lucid on the elitebook 8440p (with Intel). It is
a poor workaround, but at least it works:

1) install using the Alternate Installer CD, make sure to set the nomodeset
nosplash kernel options
2) after the installation is finished, choose rescue mode from the grub menu
(it may be necessary to pass along the nomodeset nosplash options again?)
3) when rescue mode asks you what to do, choose Fail-safe X
4) copy the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
5) change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=nosplash
nomodeset in /etc/default/grub
6) run update-grub

You know have a working system, albeit using the VESA Xorg driver. This
is obviously suboptimal, but it's better than nothing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562138] [NEW] radeon KMS causes corrupt VGA output on X1400

2010-04-13 Thread Cameron Gorrie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Booting up the latest 10.04 daily live-cd, the VGA output is unusable.
It looks like an incorrect frequency, and the screen size is wrong (it's
too narrow for the resolution). The wavering/out-of-phase-ness is so bad
that it's impossible to read. This happens on both the X console and
X11, and goes away when I use the internal laptop LCD instead (LVDS). If
I use both screens in a mirror or extend mode, the same problems occur.
So, this led me to believe that the problem might be with Kernel Mode
Setting (KMS).

I added the options:
radeon.modeset=0 vga=771
to the livecd and, voila, no more corruption. Everything works again, and I can
use my big LCD via VGA!

I've attached as much information as I can; I can also show a video of
the corruption. I had Ubuntu 8.10 on my computer previously; it's a Dell
Inspiron 6400 with Mobility X1400 graphics from ati. I'm using the April
13th Daily LiveCD here, but the corruption was evident at least with the
latest Beta livecd.

Let me know if I can give any more information!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552644] Re: Lucid Lynx 64 bit nightly build hangs on boot

2010-04-08 Thread Gary Cameron
Splash screen is now turned off. Still hangs
Comment 8 shows the last things printed to the console when fglrx is installed,
although it got a big munged when I typed it in.

The system boots when fglrx is removed, I just get the low res desktop
warning, then I can get to the login screen and my gnome desktop. (At a
painfully low/wrong resolution)

Haven't tried the nolapic_timer - just add this to the grub invocation
line?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552644] Re: Lucid Lynx 64 bit nightly build hangs on boot

2010-04-08 Thread Gary Cameron
Thanks for your observation - that's interesting, I'm surprised i failed
to notice that - any clue as to why it failed to load? It was installed
in the manner described in comment 12, with no problems reported.

I am sure I also tried a sudo apt-get install fglrx from the bash prompt
as well. Is there some missing dependency? Is there another log file I
should attach that would help diagnose this?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552644] Re: Lucid Lynx 64 bit nightly build hands on boot

2010-04-07 Thread Gary Cameron
Please expand comment 8 to see an inline paste of my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file
When I go home tonight I will reinstall fglrx on the offending machine, reboot
and attach both /var/log/Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552644] Re: Lucid Lynx 64 bit nightly build hands on boot

2010-04-07 Thread Gary Cameron
Should mention - everything in comment 8 was taken when fglrx was
reinstalled and the machine rebooted with its default configuration. I
was able to ssh in from another machine.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501097] Re: [i945gme] xorg crashes after upgrade to 9.10 netbookremix

2010-02-22 Thread cameron pike
I have not seen the problem for a long time.

Updates are installed regularly. It's possible that the problem only
happened when running Aislerot solitare.

I can't try the 10.04 alpha at this time due to local hardware
constraints.

netbookremix

This issue was reported against karmic, so can you confirm if this issue
exists with the most recent Lucid Lynx 10.04 Alpha release? ISO CD
images are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/ .
Thanks in advance.

Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: xorg

X crashes after a long time (45 minutes, minimum, many hours maximum) after
starting. Did not crash for 9.04, only after upgrade to 9.10.

Using netbook remix on ACER Atheros AR5BXB63, 16 GB hdd.

Sorry, but I haven't yet found any pattern / cause that triggers the
crash.

X quits, I get a bunch of messages (too fast to see) on the console, then X
restarts automatically with the login screen.
