[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657634] Re: [GeForce GT 330M] nvidia 260.19.06-0ubuntu1 update triggers black screen on boot for sony vaio F-series

2010-10-13 Thread David Korn
I downgraded like the reporter and things appear to be working now.

Earlier, off a fresh install and prior to installing any nvidia drivers,
my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop was running off the right and bottom of my Sony
Vaio F Series' 1920x1080 screen, regardless of resolution setting. It
seemed like the monitor wasn't being registered correctly, but there was
no explicit bug generated. Should I file that separately or is that
understood to be part of this issue? I was getting notified to install
nvidia drivers, and it seems that would fix the issue if not for the bug
we are currently discussing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528681] Re: X crashes (freezes) on average about every 10 minutes.

2010-03-18 Thread David Korn
The problem has appeared to go away for me. About two weeks after
filing the report, I wiped my machine and re-installed Ubuntu 9.10 with
what I believe was all the packages I had previously added, except for
all those that use KDE. Whatever the reason, I have not had the problem
since the re-install. I will file a new bug if it re-emerges.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528681] [NEW] X crashes (freezes) on average about every 10 minutes.

2010-02-26 Thread David Korn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This seemed to start out of the blue about 3 or 4 weeks ago...prior to
that I never had the issue. It may have started just after I installed
kubuntu 9.10 on top of my ubuntu 9.10, though I'm not sure how to verify
that. I have uninstalled kubuntu and now upgraded ubuntu to 10.4 to
enable catching and reporting the issue, but apport is frequently
crashing too.

I'm fairly new to the linux world, but I am an experienced software
developer for Windows (.net), and would be happy to do additional
diagnostic work if given some direction. The frequency of the crashes
make it pretty easy for me to reproduce the problem, though I am not
sure what if any specific action I'm taking to cause the freeze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528681] Re: X crashes (freezes) on average about every 10 minutes.

2010-02-26 Thread David Korn
My crash dialog says that apport-gpu-error-intel.py, and when I report
it I get directed to log an error here under xserver-xorg-video-intel.
I assume this is intended behavior, and that apport isn't itself
actually crashing (contrary to my original post), but please let me know
if I should be logging an apport bug elsewhere.
