This bug can be solved by revert the computer to 14.04LTS, this has worked for the Thinkpad as also for the Ideapad. Both computers start with the same brightness level as at last shutdown. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings
Okay the bios was updated to 3.21 and ecp to 1.06, for luck the battery seems to have the right security chip and is accepted by the new ecp. But as explained here is the warning from a 3.22 tester and his battery. http://thinkpad-forum.de/archive/index.php/t-152969.html The brightness bug still exists. It did not appear when booting a live 14.04 LTS system on the machine. ThinkVantage buttons did nothing, not a laptop start, not at bios and not within ubuntu. The required hidden service partition does not exist on my ssd, there is a way to repair but for what is it needed without windows? https://ideasmiths.wordpress.com/2007/07/04/solution-to-lost- thinkvantage-button-access-to-hidden-parition-in-thinkpad/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455002 Title: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1455002/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings
I can try the cd method the next days. ThinkVantage did not work, because there is an SSD in the system and no more the original harddisk with the bios and recovery partitions. BUT the same bug occurs on my Ideapad S10-2. Set proper brightness when logged in, simply log out and log in again, while the desktop appear the backlight jumps to full power. Maybe this is a Lenovo smapi bios related problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455002 Title: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1455002/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings
The bios can only be lifted up to 3.17, if the machine got an original Lenovo battery for 150 bucks. So i can only point that this bug did not occur under 14.04 LTS. The system was reverted to Ubuntu Mate 15.04 now and show the same behaviour, screen brightness turns to highest or lowest at boot. Last state was not saved like in earlier ubuntu versions.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1458292] Re: Color smear and char loss from scrolling
Reverted the machine to Ubuntu Mate 15.04 without compiz, now the bug is gone. So it seems to depend on a running compiz above ubuntu 14.04 to mess up the graphics. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1458292 Title: Color smear and char loss from scrolling To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1458292/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1456918] Re: Thinkpad X200t Unity panel action crashes compiz
After 3 hours of work to get an bartpe bootable windows for the bios updater Lenovo check up the battery before a bios update can be done, so i have to buy an original battery for 150 bucks first to perform such an update. With newer bios releases the laptop will also check for 3rd party batteries and 3rd party harddisks and ssd. So the ssd must also be replaced with an ultra expense lenovo branded model. So i think we can close this bug now, it's better to trashbin the laptop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1456918 Title: Thinkpad X200t Unity panel action crashes compiz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1456918/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1458292] [NEW] Color smear and char loss from scrolling
Public bug reported: Lenovo Thinkpad x200t Ubuntu 15.04 AMD64 Since upgrade from 14.04 LTS is got following effect. To reproduce: Open a program that scrolls graphical elements like firefox, enter some web sites. Now scroll the content with mouse or keyboard up or down. Result: Some colors from tiny elements smear about whole lines, visible chars fades out. Scrolling has turned to a haunted house of flickering chars and color expression. It was possible to take a screenshot, the yellow from tiny left border smeared to the right like a leaked ink cartridge. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861775] Re: Xserver-xorg eats all memory and swap
With today 10/05 packages the i386 is infected by this problem to. Login'd to the system, have opened facebook, turn to youtube. Now the video stops, sound are stuttering, the pointer is not movable. The ssd is swapping and swapping. Top on a vt shows that all ram and all swap are in use, xorg and firefox share the cpu ressources 47:47%. Before the today updated this bug did not exist on my i386 system! Adding a apport from this system now. ** Description changed: Oneirc beta amd64, packages today 09/28 When clicking some apps like vlc, xorg claims all ram and swap. The desktop turns to a still image, video stops, sounds stops, the harddisk led lights continuesly. This is the same effect as in 826504, but not in the intel driver. It took around 15min when the mouse can be moved again, but nothing is clickable anymore. The system must be shutted down by power cord or reset key. --- .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CheckboxSubmission: 72ffaca291c05635776d4a13f9e644e4 CheckboxSystem: 32980ee028b29311fef8e195a759b031 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, regex, animation, snap, expo, move, compiztoolbox, place, grid, imgpng, gnomecompat, wall, ezoom, workarounds, resize, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, scale, session, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz DistUpgraded: Log time: 2011-09-17 14:27:35.471830 DistroCodename: oneiric DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: ATI Technologies Inc Juniper [Radeon HD 5750 Series] [1002:68be] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology Device [1458:21e9] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861775] [NEW] Xserver-xorg eats all memory and swap
Public bug reported: Oneirc beta amd64, packages today 09/28 When clicking some apps like vlc, xorg claims all ram and swap. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 826504] Re: System becomes extremely sluggish

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769977] Re: Sudden video crash on intel chipset
The i915 is an uma architecture, i seen this bug for now only with update-manager when the progress indicator is running. Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch) Release:11.04 Alpha-3 on amd64, ati radeon 5750 juniper (that did not offer glx with free radeon driver, so unity will never run on it) The system was updated from 10.10, now i have a fallback with old desktop and free radeon driver running. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709505] Re: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel
confirmed on amd64 Most ugly is the broken failsafe graphics at this problem, you only have a working console to fix something. Here with a juniper 5750 the failsafe graphis is restarting in an endless loop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709505 Title: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 706086] [NEW] Installer did not create /etc/ati folder and files
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 10.10 maverick amd64 Bought the ati juniper 5750 card for more 3d power, the juniper have none 3d support with free radeon drivers so i have to install the fglrx. The install runs into bogus, the closing "aticonfig --initial" could be executed cause there was no /etc/ati folder in the filesystem. So i searched all fglrx* packages with midnight commander and copied the folder with his files in place. Now the aticonfig runs well and fglrx was able to give me the desktop back. This is a ugly bug, cause so many things like jockey relies on a running desktop and this borkes the desktop up.
