[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings

2015-06-07 Thread EricDHH
This bug can be solved by revert the computer to 14.04LTS, this has
worked for the Thinkpad as also for the Ideapad. Both computers start
with the same brightness level as at last shutdown. So i'm out now and
can't do further investigations.

eric@antigone:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s

The smear did not reappear since Ubuntu Mate without compiz was
installed, so i cannot say if it was revolved by the bios upgrade or
removal of compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings

2015-05-31 Thread EricDHH
Okay the bios was updated to 3.21 and ecp to 1.06, for luck the battery
seems to have the right security chip and is accepted by the new ecp.
But as explained here is the warning from a 3.22 tester and his battery.

http://thinkpad-forum.de/archive/index.php/t-152969.html

The brightness bug still exists. It did not appear when booting a live
14.04 LTS system on the machine.

ThinkVantage buttons did nothing, not a laptop start, not at bios and
not within ubuntu. The required hidden service partition does not exist
on my ssd, there is a way to repair but for what is it needed without
windows?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings

2015-05-30 Thread EricDHH
I can try the cd method the next days. ThinkVantage did not work,
because there is an SSD in the system and no more the original harddisk
with the bios and recovery partitions.

BUT the same bug occurs on my Ideapad S10-2. Set proper brightness when
logged in, simply log out and log in again, while the desktop appear the
backlight jumps to full power. Maybe this is a Lenovo smapi bios related
problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings

2015-05-28 Thread EricDHH
The bios can only be lifted up to 3.17, if the machine got an original
Lenovo battery for 150 bucks. So i can only point that this bug did not
occur under 14.04 LTS. The system was reverted to Ubuntu Mate 15.04 now
and show the same behaviour, screen brightness turns to highest or
lowest at boot. Last state was not saved like in earlier ubuntu
versions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1458292] Re: Color smear and char loss from scrolling

2015-05-28 Thread EricDHH
Reverted the machine to Ubuntu Mate 15.04 without compiz, now the bug is
gone. So it seems to depend on a running compiz above ubuntu 14.04 to
mess up the graphics.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1456918] Re: Thinkpad X200t Unity panel action crashes compiz

2015-05-25 Thread EricDHH
After 3 hours of work to get an bartpe bootable windows for the bios
updater Lenovo check up the battery before a bios update can be
done, so i have to buy an original battery for 150 bucks first to
perform such an update. With newer bios releases the laptop will also
check for 3rd party batteries and 3rd party harddisks and ssd. So the
ssd must also be replaced with an ultra expense lenovo branded model.

So i think we can close this bug now, it's better to trashbin the
laptop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1458292] [NEW] Color smear and char loss from scrolling

2015-05-24 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Lenovo Thinkpad x200t
Ubuntu 15.04 AMD64

Since upgrade from 14.04 LTS is got following effect.

To reproduce: Open a program that scrolls graphical elements like firefox,
enter some web sites. Now scroll the content with mouse or keyboard up or down.
Result: Some colors from tiny elements smear about whole lines, visible chars
fades out. Scrolling has turned to a haunted house of flickering chars and
color expression. It was possible to take a screenshot, the yellow from tiny
left border smeared to the right like a leaked ink cartridge.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1456918] [NEW] Thinkpad X200t Unity panel action crashes compiz

2015-05-20 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Thinkpad X200t
Ubuntu 15.04 (AMD64)

To reproduce: Click on a action plugin from the unity panel upper right,
does not matter if this is the logout, volume, wifi or calendar symbol.
The screen clears up, the panel stuck for 5 seconds and a ubuntu crash
dialog appears. I have send this out every time, the must be hundreds of
them. Usage of panel actions is a 50:50 lottery now. Actions must be
done twice to get an effect.

Since while: This bug exists since ubuntu 14.04 LTS on my system,
survived 14.10 and still exists in 15.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] [NEW] Thinkpad x200t backlight settings

2015-05-14 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

ubuntu 15.04 AMD64

Howto reproduce this bug that did not exist up to ubuntu 14.10

Set your required backlight power with the Fn-Keys and shutdown the
machine. Now bootup again, the login screen and your desktop is on
lowest backlight power that can be set, maybe you have to lower the
light to see your display. You have to power the backlight up with the
Fn-Keys after login., but this will not survive next shutdown.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990934] Re: Everything slow since update

2012-05-06 Thread EricDHH
Try this: Open firefox, go to youtube and start a video. Now open the
unity panel and click to dash.

Result: The video goes stutter, the sound is distorted and fragmented
while dash took 3 seconds so slowly appear.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990934] Re: Everything slow since update

2012-05-04 Thread EricDHH
Further checkups: The fglrx did not support the m10 radeon mobility
anymore, so this is no solution. Tested xorg-edgers, but with no
positive results to the speed problems. Every movement occurs in visible
refresh waves. Dash took 3 seconds to open.

Sync to vblank does not matter, no difference if it is switched on or
off.

Public bug reported:

12.04 stable i386 on ibm thinkpad t42, updated from 11.10 on 03.28.12

xserver-xorg-v 1:6.14.99~git2

Since update all graphics is really really slow. The unity dashboard crawls
block by block over 3 seconds to fully open. The unity panel crawls slowly in.
Videos in firefox displays a 1 fps picture show. with floating waves through
the picture. Desktop window movement ist struggly like a picture show.
This laptop is on ubuntu since 8.04 and was through all releases fast in
graphics. Will try fglrx now

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875356] [NEW] Full crash from applications

2011-10-15 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Oneiric full i386 on thinkpad x41

Several applications in connection with firefox cause a Death crash, the
xorg + firefox eat all cpu, all mem and then all the swap. The system is
dead, need a hard shutdown by 4s power button. On the desktop no window
is movable, the mouse pointer can be moved stutterly around without any
function when clicking something.

Triggers:
- Firefox, open facebook, open youtub in another tab, then share a video, crash
- Firefox, download a pdf, doubleclick it in the download windows, evince
appears and crash

This bug exists since alpha-2, and was reported. I lost my confidence
with new versions if such grave bugs are launched.

Oneiric beta amd64, packages today 13 october.

Nothing is fixed here, opening vlc was the last before the system needs
a hard shutdown or reset.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861775] Re: Xserver-xorg eats all memory and swap

2011-10-08 Thread EricDHH
With updates from october 8. the bug still exists. Xorg exhausts all
memory and swap, theirafter the kernel goes crazy and kills ubuntu one
and other services. There is nothing elso to do than login and start vlc
to take the full system down.

Will this showstopper go to the final release?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 826504] Re: System becomes extremely sluggish

2011-09-19 Thread EricDHH
Simple applications cause Xorg to hose all memory and swap, the systems
runs to death. I feel that's not okay, we should have proper ulimits to
block a full system kill by single applications. Any ideas for ulimits
are welcome.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769977] Re: Sudden video crash on intel chipset

2011-04-25 Thread EricDHH
The i915 is an uma architecture, i seen this bug for now only with
update-manager when the progress indicator is running. Maybe the called
programm draws to much or the x server did not claim more shared memory
to allow this drawing. Switching to exa and give fixed 128mb memory can
fix this. But unity is going very sluggish then.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769977] Re: Sudden video crash on intel chipset

2011-04-25 Thread EricDHH
Possible dupe with #344856 , the description sounds very similar. I got
these crashed if a root window appears on the user xorg screen like his
2009 problem. But this bug was never a problem with 10.10 here.

The crash effect is variable, can be an endless loop with screen
refresh, refresh, refresh. I add a video and a captured log with the
rotating lines.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769977] [NEW] Sudden video crash on intel chipset

2011-04-24 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04
Updated from maverick netbook

Some programs like update-manager cause xorg to crash, the screen turns to
scattered graphics like a video encryption. In this state there is no way but
reboot to exit. Restarting gdm did not help, the screen is refreshed but
freezed and unusable theirafter.
I found some uxa error lines in the Xorg.0.log, something crashed away and stay
in this state till reboot. This problem did not exist in 10.10.

Step by step to perfection, the blackscreen won't disappear. The gl_conf
was on nvidia, switched that around. Now some libs seems to be missing.

2011-03-30 Thread EricDHH
Final result, got the ubuntu logo with running dots, then the screen
goes to suspend. Aticonfig has placed a new xorg.conf, the systems can
boot to failsafe mode with lower graphics. Don't know what xorg mean
with missing fglrx, it is not the kernel module

root@agamemnon:/usr/src# lsmod | grep fglrx

confirmed on amd64

Most ugly is the broken failsafe graphics at this problem, you only have
a working console to fix something. Here with a juniper 5750 the
failsafe graphis is restarting in an endless loop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 706086] [NEW] Installer did not create /etc/ati folder and files

2011-01-21 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 10.10 maverick amd64

Bought the ati juniper 5750 card for more 3d power, the juniper have
none 3d support with free radeon drivers so i have to install the fglrx.
The install runs into bogus, the closing "aticonfig --initial" could be
executed cause there was no /etc/ati folder in the filesystem.

So i searched all fglrx* packages with midnight commander and copied the
folder with his files in place. Now the aticonfig runs well and fglrx
was able to give me the desktop back. This is a ugly bug, cause so many
things like jockey relies on a running desktop and this borkes the
desktop up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686164] Re: (xorg-edgers) Compiz broken on radeon mobility

2010-12-06 Thread EricDHH
Yes now it is working, rollbacked every sarvatt package to the natty
version and get the unity desktop. Looks a bit slower than unity 10.10
on thinkpad x41 with intel i915 but it is running. Thank you

Lots of problems here, okay i found a radeon-kms blocker and have

I have to remove edgers or replace it with the natty packages. Tryin to
do that.
