[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2060358] Re: [FFe] Please add German (Noted) layout

Since this only adds a keyboard layout and doesn't change defaults, this should
be fine.
FFe granted, please go ahead. Hopefully this is included upstream in future.

@oriolpont: when you install wine, nvidia-libopencl1-* should be removed and
ocl-icd-libopencl1 should be installed, nvidia-opencl-icd-* should remain in
place.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328542] Re: Build dependency on virtual libopencl1 with no default

2015-12-08 Thread Graham Inggs
@walker-praiseweb: that sounds like the correct behaviour; you can
either install ocl-icd-opencl-dev or nvidia-opencl-dev.

What is it that you are trying to do?

@shacharm: Are you sure?
I've just checked debian/control from 346.96-0ubuntu0.0.1 and I do not see the
lines:
Conflicts: opencl-icd
Replaces: opencl-icd
These lines were removed in 331.38-0ubuntu7.1 in order to fix this bug (see
debdiff in comment #21).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247736] Re: [SRU] nvidia-opencl-icd-* should not conflicts/replaces on opencl-icd

2015-10-18 Thread Graham Inggs

You can only have one OpenCL ICD Loader installed on your system, so removing
nvidia-libopencl1-346 when installing ocl-icd-libopencl1 is the correct course
of action.
You can however, have multiple OpenCL ICDs installed (e.g.
nvidia-opencl-icd-346).

When this bug was present, it prevented nvidia-opencl-icd-* from being
installed alongside ocl-icd-libopencl1. Can you do that now?

We would like to have nvidia-graphics-drivers-* recommend nvidia-
modprobe, or provide some way of automatically loading the kernel
modules and creating the device nodes. The nvidia-modprobe package is
currently in 'universe' and would need to be included in 'main' before a
package in 'restricted' can depend on or recommend it.

I'm going to mark this as a duplicate of the bug where we are tracking
that.

There is your problem. Everything in the archive that uses OpenCL was compiled
against ocl-icd-libopencl1, so you need that.
You shouldn't ever need to install nvidia-libopencl1-352.

The ocl-icd-libopencl1 OpenCL ICD Loader is capable of loading nvidia-
opencl-icd-352 (and any other OpenCL ICD in the archive).

2015-10-06 Thread Graham Inggs

That is correct, you can only have one libopencl1 (OpenCL ICD Loader) package
installed.
In most circumstances you would have ocl-icd-libopencl1, but if you manually
installed nvidia-libopencl1-352, it should remove any other OpenCL ICD Loader.

You can however, have multiple OpenCL ICDs installed, and nvidia-opencl-
icd-352 is one of these.

Please tell me what OpenCL packages you had installed, what you were
trying to install, and what apt wanted to remove.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1129409] Re: Nvidia and AMD graphics drivers should indicate whether they provide libcuda.so.1, libOpenCL.so.1, etc.

2015-03-19 Thread Graham Inggs
Can anybody please follow up with the SRU?

For the SRU to happen, this bug description needs to be updated with the SRU
template:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template
Then debdiffs for fglrx-installer and fglrx-installer-updates need to be
attached (preferably after some positive feedback after testing in a PPA).
Then ubuntu-sponsors need to be subscribed (these packages are in the
'restricted' component, so I can't upload).

alsot this patch should be applied, right?

Yes, we need Provides: opencl-icd. Let's wait a little to hear that
this bug is now properly fixed in Vivid.

@danmbox:
The vivd package *still* doesn't provide opencl-icd, so after installing

2015-03-13 Thread Graham Inggs
in my tests on trusty I can install both wine and fglrx together.

 I can't install wine and nvidia-331-updates or nvidia-libopencl1-331-updates

That is really strange. Just yesterday I tested that I could get wine
and darktable working with OpenCL on NVIDIA, see LP: #1320217 comment
14.

What error message do you see?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1327753] Re: FTBFS: hwloc-contrib 1.9-1 build-depends on unavailable package libxnvctrl-dev

2015-03-07 Thread Graham Inggs
I had a go at merging the changes from 343.22-1 in Debian experimental.
The result is available in my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ginggs/+archive/ubuntu/arm-testing
and the debdiff is attached. The armhf build runs fine on an NVIDIA Jetson TK1
board.

Moving forward, I think it would be easier to maintain if we started with the
Debian packaging (I think it can be used with only minor changes to
debian/control) and then merged in the Ubuntu patches.
Upstream have released version 346.47 and I can look at updating the Debian
package to that version.
Is there still time to get this into Vivid?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1319835] Re: please enable opencl

2015-02-03 Thread Graham Inggs
Re-opening.

ocl-icd (LP: #1382086) and khronos-opencl-headers (LP: #1382091) have both now
been included in main.
There are now many packages in Ubuntu that can make use of OpenCL:
bfgminer, erlang, wine, starpum viennacl, among others

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1129409] Re: Nvidia and AMD graphics drivers should indicate whether they provide libcuda.so.1, libOpenCL.so.1, etc.

2014-10-22 Thread Graham Inggs

Most bugs are of medium importance, examples are:
* A bug that has a severe impact on a non-core application.
* A problem with a non-essential hardware component (removable network card,
camera, webcam, music player, sound card, power management feature, printer,
etc.)

The nvidia-cuda-toolkit fix could be, but I'm not sure of what benefit it will
it will bring to trusty.
The nvidia-graphics-drivers-* can not (yet), because they need to be properly
multi-arched and fixed in utopic first.

2014-08-24 Thread Graham Inggs
@scottrichie: Yes, this should probably still be SRU'd for Trusty, but
I'm reluctant to do it on its own as nvidia-304* doesn't provide
libcuda-5.5-1 and so only nvidia-331-* should directly be affected by
this bug. I believe there are still nvidia-304* fixes coming to Utopic,
when these land I'll look at an SRU and include a fix for LP: #1247746.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1351830] Re: AMD video but python-pyopencl install nvidia-opencl-icd-331-updates

2014-08-03 Thread Graham Inggs
I think the problem here is that python-pyopencl depends on the virtual
package opencl-icd (i.e. it needs an OpenCL ICD), but although AMD
graphics drivers do ship an OpenCL ICD, they do not indicate this by
providing opencl-icd.

Installing nvidia-opencl-icd-331-updates alongside AMD graphics drivers
should cause any problems as multiple OpenCL ICDs from different vendors
can be co-installed.

See also LP: #1129409, this was fixed for the Nvidia graphics drivers,
but never for the AMD graphics drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247736] Re: [SRU] nvidia-opencl-icd-* should not conflicts/replaces on opencl-icd

2014-07-31 Thread Graham Inggs
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Users with proprietary Nvidia graphics drivers are unable to co-install CUDA
and OpenCL applications.
The patches in comment #21 and #22 backport the fix from Utopic and resolve
this issue by allowing nvidia-opencl-icd-* (Nvidia's OpenCL ICD) to be
co-installed with ocl-icd-libopencl1 (the generic OpenCL ICD loader).

- [SRU Verification Test Case]
+ [SRU Verification Test Case #1]
+ sudo apt-get remove nvidia-opencl-icd-* nvidia-libopencl1-* ocl-icd-ibopencl1

  (an alternate OpenCL ICD)

With the 331.38-0ubuntu7 drivers, the Nvidia OpenCL ICD will be removed:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
    nvidia-cuda-toolkit nvidia-libopencl1-331 nvidia-opencl-dev

  [Regression Potential]
This fix only affects the relationships between packages and should not
introduce any new bugs. However, since packages that were previously difficult
to install together will now be co-installable, new bugs in those packages may
be exposed.

  [Other Info]
It is possible to work around this issue by first installing the CUDA
application, then installing ocl-icd-opencl-dev, and finally installing the
OpenCL application. (See comment #7)

2014-07-30 Thread Graham Inggs
Please note the new, simpler, test case for SRU verification in the bug
description.

The problem that the original reporter reported (/usr/lib/*/libOpenCL.so being
shipped in both nvidia-opencl-dev and ocl-icd-libopencl1) is still a bug and
does affect Debian too (see comment #7 and #8).
Please use LP: #1311975 for tracking that issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328542] Re: [xorg-edgers] OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementation

2014-06-26 Thread Graham Inggs
@Graham libviennacl-dev has a build-depends on libopencl1 (virtual) and does
not specify a suggested implementation (although this is against policy, so
probably can be filed as a bug against that package) .

I believe you are correct that this is against policy, the build-depends
should be on something similar to:

ocl-icd-opencl-dev | opencl-dev

The real package should be listed before the alternate virtual package.
The alternate virtual package is there for users who wish to build
packages locally and want to use an alternate package providing opencl-
dev, not ocl-icd-opencl-dev.

I don't think this is something that Ubuntu should (or can) nip in the
bud. I think bugs should be filed in the Debian BTS against the
relevant packages (viennacl, etc.) and discussed in the OpenCL
Packager's mailing list [1].
