[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669125] [NEW] Part of screen is truncated on external HDMI monitor
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on an external HDD without major problems. However, I have an external monitor connected via HDMI to my Acer Timeline 1810T notebook (Intel graphics). On this external monitor the screen resolution is correctly set to 1920x1080. However, parts of the screen are truncated. If I make a window go to full screen, not all parts are visible. Changing the resolution does not change this behavior. Also, setting the external screen as the only video source does not change the problem (currently it is set to extend the notebook monitor). I have googled a bit and found that at least two people experience the same problem: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/ubuntu-10-10-and-hdmi- screen-resolution-838728/ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/550486 Since the latter bug report does not seem to fit my problem completely, I decided to file a new one. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 606190] [NEW] toggling touchpad not possible after reboot if touchpad is switched off at this time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Short description: Rebooting the system while the touchpad is toggled off, could lead to a non functional touchpad after reboot. It could not be switched on again. I am not sure about the package i selected for this bug report. Long description: I will describe several scenarios to describe the problem. First of all, there is no problem with the touchpad itself. After log in as User A, the touchpad works as expected. Also toggling on/off works with Fn+F7 (This combination is also bound to XF86TouchpadToggle, keycode 200). Now i disable the touchpad with Fn-F7. The system notifies my about that by showing a touchpad icon with a little red cross. Everything is fine so far. Now i restart the system. After restart, gdm waits for a User selection. At this point, the touchpad is not working. From this point i will descibe two different ways of proceeding: 1. Now - still in gdm - i enable the touchpad (Fn-F7), select a User A, password, Gnome starts. The Touchpad now doesn't work, but i can enable it by Fn-F7 (visual feedback now also signals enabled). In my opinion, the touchpad state has been saved for the gnome session just before i restarted the system and has been restored. 2. This time i don't enable touchpad, login as User A, Gnome starts. The Touchpad now doesn't work either, but now i can't enable it by Fn-F7. The visual feedback again signals, that it should be enabled, but it is not. Repeated Fn-F7 keystrokes toggle the visual signal, but not the touchpad. I am now able to fix the situation by executing the following commands: xsendkeycode 200 1; xsendkeycode 200 0 After this, the state of the touchpad and the state of the visual signal is synchronized. Now Fn-F7 works as expected again. It seems that there exist two systems for touchpad control on my computer. The system provided by Ubuntu and another one maybe integrated in the hardware. As long as both systems are in sync, both do the same: Either enable or disable the touchpad. But as soon as they work counter wise, the result is always a disabled touchpad. With the commands above i am also able to desynchronize. Is it possible to switch off the Ubuntu system for touchpad toggling? This could help to prove, that there is a second system. It would also be a workaround/solution for my computer (i do not need a visual feedback). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597429] [NEW] X freeze while scrolling certain page in firefox
Public bug reported: If i load a certain page on www.ard.de in firefox and use the scroll wheel of the mouse to scroll the page, then its very likely that X freezes. I am able to reproduce this within about 2 minutes. When X freezes, its process takes 100% of the cpu. Not just firefox does not respond. The whole desktop (gnome) does not react. But i can still move the mouse pointer. So i logged in from another machine, started gdb and attached it to the X process to gain some informations. Please find them attached (gdb log). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532047] Re: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7
Still experiencing it, too. I have the text boot splash, not the graphical logo one. My description from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/529230/comments/9 still stands. I use quiet splash nomodeset in the grub linux line, because KMS doesn't work with my graphics adapter (Radeon HD 4200, it throws me in textmode at startup though ctrl-alt-f7 works, but after going to standby and back /dev/sda gives errors on every read. I tried to look for bugs related to my HD4200, but couldn't find ANY in LP.) Oh, and when I turn off the computer the last thing I see is text telling me that plymouth was shut down with the kill signal. I think that is new. On reboot apport tells me that plymouthd didn't properly stop and wants to report it, but then says it's https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/537262 schae...@cal:~$ cat /proc/fb 0 VGA16 VGA schae...@cal:~$ lspci [...] 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS880 [Radeon HD 4200] [...] Henning -- Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532047 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408588] Re: Low screen resolution using Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3, Alpha 4, and Alpha 5
Okay, the problem can be solved by reverting to an older version of the Intel driver. (The Intrepid version) I followed the guide in this link : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance This gave me a decent screen resolution of 1152x864. -- Low screen resolution using Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3, Alpha 4, and Alpha 5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408588 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408588] Re: Low screen resolution using Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3, Alpha 4, and Alpha 5
Tested 9.10 beta. Sadly I ended up with the same problem... Just for fun I installed 8.04 on my pc just to see what that would do And would you believe it: That gave me an even higher resolution than the one I get running 9.04. This has made me think...The newer version of Ubuntu I install on my pc, the lower the screen resolution gets. This seems to me to be the opposite of development. So what is this really all about? Is my hardware simply to old for Ubuntu to keep caring about it? Maybe I am being unfair, but since I am getting no answers anywhere, I can only guess -- Low screen resolution using Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3, Alpha 4, and Alpha 5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408588 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
