[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1997178] Re: Black screen after wake from S3 suspend on Nvidia proprietary driver redux
Tested and confirmed that wake from sleep results in a black screen 100% of the time on 5.15.0-53-generic, but only ~10% of the time on 5.15.0-52-generic. Thus on the surface it seems 5.15.0-53-generic caused a regression. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1997178 Title: Black screen after wake from S3 suspend on Nvidia proprietary driver redux To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1997178/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1987134] [NEW] Black screen after wake from S3 suspend on Nvidia proprietary driver
Public bug reported: An Nvidia driver upgrade in Ubuntu 20.04 caused waking from S3 suspend to lead to a black screen. Upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04 using latest stable Nvidia driver 515.65.01 did not resolve the issue. There are several Nvidia sleep tickets that at first seem related, but mention dmesg entries that I am not seeing which makes me suspect I have a different issue: * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-510/+bug/1970088 * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-470/+bug/1946303 Workaround dhenry mentions in 1970088 of disabling the nvidia suspend and hibernate systemd services makes no difference for me. Currrently running Ubuntu 22.04, Nvidia GTX 970 on driver 515.65.01, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. Here are journalctl excerpts during the reboot process, with and without nvidia systemd suspend services. dmesg and /var/log/kern.log show no errors as are mentioned in the above tickets. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1529113] [NEW] 3 Monitor Setup - One monitor is Blank on Startup
Public bug reported: Hello I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on an AMD 3870 and a 5450. The APU is running a DVI connection to a (Right Monitor) NEC 19" 1280 x 1024. The centre monitor is an Acer 22" Wide screen running at 1680x1050. The Left monitor is an LG (GoldStar) 20" 1680x1050. This problem occurs when the system first boots up. The right monitor is the problem child here. Almost every start-up, but not always, at the log in screen the monitor sticks with the log in original screen back ground however the mouse is not able to go onto that screen. When I hover the mouse over a different user account, and the background changes, the other monitor does not. When I log in I go into the settings and go to Screen display. I turn off the general options for the right monitor and apply the changes. When the pop up asking if I want to keep my changes, I select no go back to what it was. The right monitor returns to life. Thanks for your help in advance as I am very happy I am able to run 3 monitor as with the proprietary drivers, I can not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247510] [NEW] Xorg crash
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 13.10 on my Macbook Air. It is a fresh install with all of the updates installed as of the time I reported this bug. The system crashes every time. If I use the mouse a lot or alt+tab through windows too fast (not sure what too fast really means but it appears that using the mouse a lot or alt+tab rapidaly causes the system to crash. I've been trying to report this bug multiple times but the system freezes and kicks me back to the login as I try to type it out. The window that is currently active freezes but the mouse is still active. Then the mouse will no longer be active and the system will crash to the login screen after a couple of mnutes of inactivity or being frozen/ ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-12-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Sat Nov 2 21:42:22 2013 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: saucy DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation MCP89 [GeForce 320M] [10de:08a3] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Apple Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071]
FWIW this bug only happens to me when unlocking the screen saver, usually though not always after a resume from suspend. I think it happens when I start typing a password quickly and right away. (The crash does not happen immediately—a few seconds later.) If I take care to wait a moment until the caret in the password text field is blinking steadily I seem to be able to avoid it. This hypothesis would explain why the crash seems to happen most often when the computer is under load (either from a resume, or because there is a substantial background process like a big compile)—in such cases the screen saver GUI is a little slower to react. Alternatively it is possible the crash is related to my fingers accidentally brushing the touchpad while typing the password. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956071 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/956071/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds
I have been having a similar issue with ubuntu 12.04 lts on a Compaq Presario v5000. My mouse would randomly either stop working completely (rare) or my ability to click and select objects was completely gone. My annoying bandaid fix was to sudo rmmod psmouse, and sudo modprobe psmouse in the terminal whenever the mouse acted up. I ran into another better bandaid fix that seems to have helped so far (been running fine for the past 2 hours) which was posted on bug #96596 where RooSoft mentioned: so I set i8042.dumbkbd=1 in the kernel parameters and not only did the spurious ACk error disappear but the psmouse lost sync messages too. After doing the bandaid fix mentioned by RooSoft everything has been running pretty smoothly, my mouse will hiccup every once in a while, throw a it's errors in the system log, but it will never get stuck in a click event. I hope this works for others out there, it was a big pain I had to deal with for 2 days, and it annoyed me to the point I wanted to trash ubuntu completely. I was having the same problem with resolution being limited to 1600x1200. Turns out that in the VM settings I had Specify monitor settings with one monitor specified and Maximum Resolution of any one monitor set to 1600x1200, which is the largest resolution listed. Ok just tested drm-intel-next-queued on my wife's ux31 (I snuck it away without her looking, I'll probably hear screams soon though). eDP works ok: the kernel comes up, I can see boot messages, then X starts and I see the desktop. When I connect a mini-HDMI to my 25x16 monitor, it comes up at 19x12, which is expected, and the eDP stays on. I tried this about 5 times and it worked every time. I don't have a dongle for VGA though, and it's remotely possible that VGA is somehow causing trouble for us, but it's more likely this is an issue with some other aspect of your configuration... I am affected by the same issue. Though I am running Compiz. I will add that killing applications over SSH, killing Compiz, or restarting GDM with `sudo restart gdm` generally has no visible effect. Though once killing VirtualBox brought my machine back to life for a few seconds. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564181] Re: [RV730] GPU soft reset infinite loop scrolling in firefox with compiz
Re: #19 I was having this same error recently until I followed the instructions in the X/Testing/GEMLeak wiki page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Testing/GEMLeak). After upgrading to the PPA packages glxinfo started to report OpenGL 1.2, my GPU reset problems went away, and things got much snappier. Then I noticed that the issue referenced by the wiki (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/565981) was closed with the status Fix Released, which means that, being up to date, I presumably should have already had the fix. (Unless by Fix Release they meant the PPA packages.) Looking at the wiki page it seems like testing is still underway, but perhaps it's just out of date. If the fix actually was released into the official repositories, then it seems like something is different between the PPA and final packages, as I no longer have this issue. (Previously I'd get GPU reset loops 3 times a day.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460664] Re: White screen of death on Dell Studio 15
Well, I'm a bit confused by this one. The fix we put together for Jaunty should already be in the kernel, but based on the pictures it does look like we're programming a bad mode. The machine should still be up though, so it would be good to get logs with DRM debugging enabled (you can force this by loading the drm module with the debug=1 option, though on recent kernels you might need to use debug=4 or debug=5). I'd also like to get a copy of the vbios for this machine: # cd /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:02.0/ # echo 1 rom # cat rom /tmp/rom.bin # echo 0 rom If we end up using the EDID on this machine, then maybe the fix didn't make it upstream. In that case this kernel patch might help: diff --git a/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c b/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c index 3c0d2b3..2c2f08b 100644 --- a/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c +++ b/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c @@ -647,6 +647,12 @@ static struct drm_display_mode *drm_mode_detailed(struct dr mode-vsync_end = mode-vsync_start + vsync_pulse_width; mode-vtotal = mode-vdisplay + vblank; + /* Some EDIDs have bogus h/vtotal values */ + if (mode-hsync_end mode-htotal) + mode-htotal = mode-hsync_end + 1; + if (mode-vsync_end mode-vtotal) + mode-vtotal = mode-vsync_end + 1; + drm_mode_set_name(mode); if (pt-misc DRM_EDID_PT_INTERLACED) -- White screen of death on Dell Studio 15 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460664 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
