[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2020604] Re: After mesa upgrades, Chrome won't show graphics

2023-05-25 Thread Jesse
`rm -R ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/GPUCache` (and then restarting
chrome) from the askubuntu post fixed it!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1997178] Re: Black screen after wake from S3 suspend on Nvidia proprietary driver redux

2022-11-21 Thread Jesse Johnson
Tested and confirmed that wake from sleep results in a black screen 100%
of the time on 5.15.0-53-generic, but only ~10% of the time on
5.15.0-52-generic. Thus on the surface it seems 5.15.0-53-generic caused
a regression.

Tried installing the Nvidia 390 driver since that is another commonly
cited workaround, but once pass the filesystem encryption password
prompts the screen goes black. No useful error messages in journalctl
that I can see.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1987134] [NEW] Black screen after wake from S3 suspend on Nvidia proprietary driver

2022-08-19 Thread Jesse Johnson
Public bug reported:

An Nvidia driver upgrade in Ubuntu 20.04 caused waking from S3 suspend
to lead to a black screen.

Upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04 using latest stable Nvidia driver 515.65.01
did not resolve the issue.

There are several Nvidia sleep tickets that at first seem related, but
mention dmesg entries that I am not seeing which makes me suspect I have
a different issue:

*
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-510/+bug/1970088
*
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-470/+bug/1946303

Workaround dhenry mentions in 1970088 of disabling the nvidia suspend
and hibernate systemd services makes no difference for me.

Currrently running Ubuntu 22.04, Nvidia GTX 970 on driver 515.65.01, AMD
Ryzen 7 5800X.

Here are journalctl excerpts during the reboot process, with and without
nvidia systemd suspend services. dmesg and /var/log/kern.log show no
errors as are mentioned in the above tickets.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1828790] [NEW] On a Wyse system, if Intel DP is connected before the AMD one, there's a 50% chance the AMD one would have no output

2019-05-13 Thread Jesse Sung
Public bug reported:

Summary:
On extended SKU (AMD SKU), boot to OS with monitor connecting to Intel DP, then
connect another monitor to AMD DP, there is a 50% chance AMD DP has no video
output to monitor.

Step to reproduce:
1. Attached a 2k/4K monitor to Intel UMA DP port.
2. Power on system and boot to desktop.
3. Attach another 2k/4K monitor to AMD Graphics DP port.

Expect result:
Both monitors can display correctly

Actually result:
AMD DP monitor will be black screen. (Intel DP output still normal)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1529113] [NEW] 3 Monitor Setup - One monitor is Blank on Startup

2015-12-24 Thread Jesse
Public bug reported:

Hello I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on an AMD 3870 and a 5450. The APU is
running a DVI connection to a (Right Monitor) NEC 19" 1280 x 1024. The
centre monitor is an Acer 22" Wide screen running at 1680x1050. The
Left monitor is an LG (GoldStar) 20" 1680x1050.

This problem occurs when the system first boots up. The right monitor
is the problem child here. Almost every start-up, but not always, at
the log in screen the monitor sticks with the log in original screen
back ground however the mouse is not able to go onto that screen. When
I hover the mouse over a different user account, and the background
changes, the other monitor does not.

When I log in I go into the settings and go to Screen display. I turn
off the general options for the right monitor and apply the changes.
When the pop up asking if I want to keep my changes, I select no go back
to what it was. The right monitor returns to life.

Thanks for your help in advance as I am very happy I am able to run 3
monitor as with the proprietary drivers, I can not.

Cheers,

Jesse

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1441570] [NEW] System becomes unresponsive during normal usage

2015-04-08 Thread Jesse Mazis
Public bug reported:

The system becomes unresponsive (including stuttering audio, slow mouse
cursor, freezing) after an hour or so of usage (sometimes more and
sometimes less). Usage at the time was a web browser idling (observed
with both Chromium and Firefox) and a music player (Clementine) in the
background. There were no CPU intensive applications running at the
time.

I was able to capture cpu usage during an episode with the following command
(nice set to -20).:
'while true; do ps -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -k 1 -nr | head -30
logfile; echo -e \n`date` logfile; sync; sleep 1; done'
Attached is an excerpt from the generated log file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318882] [NEW] lock screen not visible after resume

2014-05-12 Thread Jesse Gilles
Public bug reported:

Hardware: Macbook 2,1
Ubuntu 14.04 (updated)

Suspend and resume works fine, but frequently after resuming from
suspend the unity lock screen is not visible.

The screen is on and the mouse cursor is visible and moves around if the
touch pad is used, but the background is black.

If I switch to a VT and back, the lock screen always appears.

This issue doesn't happen on every resume, but is easily reproducible by
suspending and resuming a few times.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314800] Re: i915 page table error on boot

2014-04-30 Thread Jesse Gilles
This seems like an old issue that was resolved, but is back in 14.04? I
have found similar, older bug reports, but none against 14.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247510] [NEW] Xorg crash

2013-11-02 Thread Jonathan Jesse
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 13.10 on my Macbook Air. It is a fresh install with
all of the updates installed as of the time I reported this bug.

The system crashes every time. If I use the mouse a lot or alt+tab
through windows too fast (not sure what too fast really means but it
appears that using the mouse a lot or alt+tab rapidaly causes the system
to crash.

I've been trying to report this bug multiple times but the system
freezes and kicks me back to the login as I try to type it out.

The window that is currently active freezes but the mouse is still
active. Then the mouse will no longer be active and the system will
crash to the login screen after a couple of mnutes of inactivity or
being frozen/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071]

2013-01-15 Thread Jesse Glick
FWIW this bug only happens to me when unlocking the screen saver,
usually though not always after a resume from suspend. I think it
happens when I start typing a password quickly and right away. (The
crash does not happen immediately—a few seconds later.)

If I take care to wait a moment until the caret in the password text
field is blinking steadily I seem to be able to avoid it. This
hypothesis would explain why the crash seems to happen most often when
the computer is under load (either from a resume, or because there is a
substantial background process like a big compile)—in such cases the
screen saver GUI is a little slower to react.

Alternatively it is possible the crash is related to my fingers
accidentally brushing the touchpad while typing the password.

1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2 which I think has this patch, and also 1.5.99,
continue to crash for me with this SEGV on occasion, shortly but not
immediately after unlocking the screen (not necessarily after resume
from suspend). No clear way to reproduce. Anything that can be done to
help? (Any all-in-one instructions available for rebuilding X + drivers
with symbols and running through Valgrind?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2012-09-23 Thread Jesse Parnell
I have been having a similar issue with ubuntu 12.04 lts on a Compaq
Presario v5000. My mouse would randomly either stop working completely
(rare) or my ability to click and select objects was completely gone. My
annoying bandaid fix was to sudo rmmod psmouse, and sudo modprobe
psmouse in the terminal whenever the mouse acted up.

I ran into another better bandaid fix that seems to have helped so far
(been running fine for the past 2 hours) which was posted on bug #96596
where RooSoft mentioned: so I set i8042.dumbkbd=1 in the kernel
parameters and not only did the spurious ACk error disappear but the
psmouse lost sync messages too.

After doing the bandaid fix mentioned by RooSoft everything has been
running pretty smoothly, my mouse will hiccup every once in a while,
throw a it's errors in the system log, but it will never get stuck in a
click event.

I hope this works for others out there, it was a big pain I had to deal
with for 2 days, and it annoyed me to the point I wanted to trash ubuntu
completely. If I run into a true solution ill post it here.

2012-08-28 Thread Jesse Jarrell
I was having the same problem with resolution being limited to
1600x1200. Turns out that in the VM settings I had Specify monitor
settings with one monitor specified and Maximum Resolution of any one
monitor set to 1600x1200, which is the largest resolution listed. Once
I set it to Use host setting for monitors (can only be changed with VM
powered off) and restarted with the VM maximized it set itself to
1920x1080. I don't think this is an issue with xorg but with VMWare
Workstation 8.

Sorry this is taking so long, Oleksij. I wish I could reproduce it.

With the current drm-intel-next, do you see both outputs in xrandr even

If you use the vesa driver are you able to get both displays going even

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-06-17 Thread Jesse Barnes
Ah your BIOS may be doing something funky then, does it have options to
control which output to use? Sometimes you can make it use the LFP
(local flat panel) all the time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-04-23 Thread Jesse Barnes
Ok just tested drm-intel-next-queued on my wife's ux31 (I snuck it away
without her looking, I'll probably hear screams soon though).

eDP works ok: the kernel comes up, I can see boot messages, then X
starts and I see the desktop.

When I connect a mini-HDMI to my 25x16 monitor, it comes up at 19x12,
which is expected, and the eDP stays on. I tried this about 5 times and
it worked every time.

I don't have a dongle for VGA though, and it's remotely possible that
VGA is somehow causing trouble for us, but it's more likely this is an
issue with some other aspect of your configuration...

The top of the tree I was using is this commit (i.e. drm-intel-next-
queued from this morning):

commit b98e5240b362e702355ffedba05aeb589dfbcbe2

also we may need to take the VBT values and stuff them back into the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112]

2012-04-18 Thread Jesse Barnes
Two things may be going on here:
  1) we're setting the DP audio enable bit too early I think; we should only
set it when we go to a normal link mode
  2) there may not be enough bw for audio at 25x16 with the clock configuration
we use, we may need to reduce the audio config somehow

Paulo, do you have a DP monitor you can test with to confirm?

I just confirmed that 25x16 works fine on my ILK laptop with drm-intel-
next-queued, but I don't have any audio in my config.

Martin, it would be good if you could re-test with drm-intel-next-queued
too, just to rule out recent fixes (there have been a number that might
affect this).

And in x-1-greeter.log:
[+0.48s] DEBUG: Loading users from org.freedesktop.Accounts
[+0.48s] DEBUG: Loading user /org/freedesktop/Accounts/User1001
[+0.50s] DEBUG: Loading user /org/freedesktop/Accounts/User1000

On vt7, unity-greeter would get stuck after password input.
On vt8, unity-greeter appears after that getting session list timeout, which
is about a minute later than vt7, and does not have a password input field.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921321]

2012-02-17 Thread Jesse Brandeburg
Hi Emil, thanks. Behavior is unchanged with new kernels. I've tested
through nouveau commit:

commit 9a0a03b43176ee676693232f2afe92b83b15233e
Author: Roy Spliet r.spl...@student.tudelft.nl
Date: Tue Feb 7 00:29:06 2012 +0100

drm/nouveau/pm: several fixes for nvc0 memory timings

and 3.3.0-rc2 (actually the above is on top of)
which contains a0b2563

commit 62aa2b537c6f5957afd98e29f96897419ed5ebab
Author: Linus Torvalds torva...@linux-foundation.org
Date: Tue Jan 31 13:31:54 2012 -0800

Linux 3.3-rc2

with no change, from that patch or any other.

in fact nvapeek (nouveau git with 3.3.0-rc2) shows:
before suspend:
e100: 001c1100
e28c: 0100
e104: 72266640 0441474b
e280: 4747

after:
e100: 001c1100
e28c: 0100
e104: 72266240 0441474b
e280: 4747

the only difference I see is e104 bit 10 being set before, and not
after.

NOTE: I have the exact same laptop as Walther.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921321] [NEW] nouveau: dark screen after suspend/resume

2012-01-24 Thread Jesse Brandeburg
Public bug reported:

Nouveau works fine with brightness controls working fine after initial
boot, but I do S3 suspend, and then resume via power button, and
brightness controls don't work at all, and backlight is on, but set at
extremely low level.

hardware is Quadro 770M on HP 8530w laptop

/sys/.../brightness control does nothing when in this state,
suspend resume cycles after this first cycle all have the same problem.

I'll test if a full hibernate has the issue or not after this and report
back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879908] Re: dash home and tab switcher pop under open windows

2011-11-25 Thread Jesse Otto
I just experienced this also and did not get to run apport because I
caused corrected it by restarting Firefox. While I have this package
installed, my system is not Intel. I use the nvidia-173 driver. I do
not know how to reproduce it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 742517] Re: [sandy bridge] xorg freezes with 100% cpu usage

2011-06-30 Thread Jesse Hallett
The symptoms of this issue seem to be the same as those in Bug #698121.
I found the same error output in my Xorg.1.log file:

Fatal server error:
[250852.257] xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call

Bug #698121 is indicated as affecting the xserver-xorg-video-ati
package. I do have this package installed, even though I have an nVidia
card and I have not seen any mention of ATI hardware or drivers in this
bug. Maybe the problem is more general than was previously thought?

2011-06-28 Thread Jesse Hallett
I can also confirm that this issue is still a problem in Natty. I have
experienced three crashes today with the symptoms that Rechner-Tester
and I described.

It is my computer at work that crashes regularly. I have never observed
this issue on my machine at home, though I tend to use similar
configurations on both machines and both have been running Natty since
its release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 742517] Re: [sandy bridge] xorg freezes with 100% cpu usage

2011-03-28 Thread Jesse Hallett
I am affected by the same issue. Though I am running Compiz. I will
add that killing applications over SSH, killing Compiz, or restarting
GDM with `sudo restart gdm` generally has no visible effect. Though
once killing VirtualBox brought my machine back to life for a few
seconds.

It may be a coincidence, but I first noticed a freeze after installing
Chrome 11 beta, which employs more GPU acceleration than previous
versions of Chrome. I wondered if I am running out of video memory -
but I don't know how to check my video memory usage.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661170] Re: dropped frames using vdpau

2010-10-18 Thread Jesse Michael
I'm guessing this won't fix the problem entirely, but when I try to play
relatively large videos like the 1024x436 version of that Sintel movie,
I'm getting this SEGV--

VO: [vdpau] 1024x436 = 1024x436 Planar YV12

A quick look in libvo/vo_vdpau.c from the mplayer source shows that

the result without checking for null.

Thank you for this solution. I entered:

./configure --enable-wacom

It said:
Your wacom.ko will be available under

but: Makefile.in, wacom.h, wacom_sys.c, wacom_wac.c, wacom_wac.h, were the only
files there.
Am I missing something?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564181] Re: [RV730] GPU soft reset infinite loop scrolling in firefox with compiz

2010-08-26 Thread Jesse Sweetland
Re: #19

I was having this same error recently until I followed the instructions
in the X/Testing/GEMLeak wiki page
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Testing/GEMLeak). After upgrading to the PPA
packages glxinfo started to report OpenGL 1.2, my GPU reset problems
went away, and things got much snappier.

Then I noticed that the issue referenced by the wiki
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/565981) was
closed with the status Fix Released, which means that, being up to
date, I presumably should have already had the fix. (Unless by Fix
Release they meant the PPA packages.)

Looking at the wiki page it seems like testing is still underway, but
perhaps it's just out of date. If the fix actually was released into
the official repositories, then it seems like something is different
between the PPA and final packages, as I no longer have this issue.
(Previously I'd get GPU reset loops 3 times a day.)

Since this ticket is still open I thought I'd comment on it in case
anyone else is still in the same boat.

this bug is also present in lucid beta 1 (plus all updates) amd64 on a HP

prompt.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460664] Re: White screen of death on Dell Studio 15

2009-11-04 Thread Jesse Barnes
Well, I'm a bit confused by this one. The fix we put together for
Jaunty should already be in the kernel, but based on the pictures it
does look like we're programming a bad mode. The machine should still
be up though, so it would be good to get logs with DRM debugging enabled
(you can force this by loading the drm module with the debug=1 option,
though on recent kernels you might need to use debug=4 or debug=5).

I'd also like to get a copy of the vbios for this machine:
# cd /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:02.0/
# echo 1 rom
# cat rom /tmp/rom.bin
# echo 0 rom

If we end up using the EDID on this machine, then maybe the fix didn't
make it upstream. In that case this kernel patch might help:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377090] Re: [i945gm] (Needs kernel 2.6.31) DRI2 swapbuffers

2009-08-27 Thread Jesse Barnes
The kernel portion of this work is targeted at kernel 2.6.32 (Kristian
Hogsberg has been posting the patches most recently). There are also
libdrm, mesa, xserver and driver changes required, which should land in
the Intel gfx Q3 release, and in the next stable X server release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 326008] Re: screen does not redraw properly

2009-05-28 Thread Jesse Barnes
The 2.7.1 intel driver has some fixes that may be related to this issue. There
are also some important kernel fixes needed for 8xx chips:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/anholt/drm-intel.git;a=commit;h=cfa16a0de5392c54db553ec2233a7110e4b4da7a

and in the 2D driver:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 356850] Re: [g33] X freeze while using firefox (UXA bug)

2009-05-27 Thread Jesse Barnes
Yeah the original backtrace indicates a legacy path is being taken...
sounds like newer drivers fix the issue but introduce a memory leak.
Can you confirm with the xorg edgers bits?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 193419] Re: [i945gm] External screen blanks black/gray/white unless Framebuffer Compression is turned off

2009-05-27 Thread Jesse Barnes
There are probably a lot of duplicates of this one, including pitti's
pipe a underrun bug. Probably most of the display flicker bugs can be
duped here or to pitti's bug, since they have the same root cause
(incorrect FIFO configuration or an unsupportable configuration for a
given platform due to memory bw limitations).
