[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1789095] Re: Computer locks even when Screen Lock off

2018-08-27 Thread John Rose
It's not a crash or a hang. It locks in terms of the screen being blank
and the login password being required to unlock the screen. Also, I put
this glitch down to the xorg package but I could be wrong.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1789095] [NEW] Computer locks even when Screen Lock off

2018-08-26 Thread John Rose
Public bug reported:

Computer locks after a few minutes even when Automatic Screen Lock
turned off. I've also tried Screen Lock after e.g. 30 minutes. This
happens on both a new install of 18.04 (on this computer) or after an
upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 on another computer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1766558] [NEW] Multiple Flashing Mouse Pointers

2018-04-24 Thread John Rose
Public bug reported:

When I move the mouse, multiple flashing mouse pointers appear on the
display. Sometimes they disappear in a few seconds and sometimes they
stay for minutes or until I've moved the proper pointer to another app.
This only happens when I'm using a USB SSD to boot and start Ubuntu. I
presume that the bug is in xorg.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1527711] [NEW] Held package libgm1 after upgrade from Trusty to Wily

2015-12-18 Thread John Rose
Public bug reported:

I've upgraded from Trusty to Wily (via Vivid, if I remember correctly).
Afterwards 'apt-get upgrade' shows libgbm1 (& xorg) as kept back & not to
upgrade. Synaptic shows libgbm1-lts-vivid as installed. Not really sure if this
is a bug.
PS Not sure if this is connected, but I'm not able to install Skype using
'apt-get install skype skype-bin:i386':
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
 skype-bin:i386 : Depends: libqtwebkit4:i386 (>= 2.2~2011week36) but it is not
going to be installed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450332] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-05-06 Thread John Rose
If I understand correctly the web page referred to above, I should:
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-utopic
xserver-xorg-lts-utopic libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic
libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic

I'm reluctant to do this, as the web page does not state the reversion
method in case of problems. What is it?

It also says that I can check the hwe support status by:
hwe-support-status --verbose
However, when I do that, the command is not found. Synaptic says that there is
no package similar to that command's name. What is the relevant package's name?

Downloaded and tried Vivid as instructed. I added 2 users. Logging into
both successively, I was able to start apps switch back forth OK
between the users. Thus, no freeze problem with this version of Vivid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450332] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-05-04 Thread John Rose
I was not able to upgrade BIOS FA to FB because FB has the wrong Id.
This is due to the motherboard being Rev 2.0 (checked by looking at
motherboard). In other words, the PC seller forced in the wrong BIOS -
FA which is for Rev 2.2 . So I upgraded the BIOS to FH - the latest non-
beta for Rev 2.0 dated 2013 i.e 2 years later than FA.

However, still not able to change users by selecting different user from
top of screen - screen just goes black. I'm able to change user by
logging out current user before logging 'new' user. BTW I only have 2
users on an 8GB PC.

Output asked for:
john@Desktop:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
FH
02/25/2013

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532517] [NEW] External monitor goes black

2010-03-05 Thread John Rose
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Every so often using Karmic, external monitor screen (mirrored to laptop
screen) goes blank while laptop screen displays OK. I think that this may be
happening when I move the mouse after a few seconds inactivity on my part. One
thought is that the following part of the Screen Section (in xorg.conf) should
not be commented out:
# SubSection Display
# Virtual 2048 2048
# EndSubSection
I have the feeling that this was commented out when I was using Jaunty due to
external screen mode display problem.
