[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080674] Re: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics). Affects KVM but not VBox.

2013-11-11 Thread Peter Lieven
Looking further it seems that the root cause is that the CIRRUS driver
cannot be used in 12.04.3 because of this

[ 579.647] (EE) cirrus: The PCI device 0xb8 at 00@00:02:0 has a kernel module
claiming it.
[ 579.647] (EE) cirrus: This driver cannot operate until it has been unloaded.

It seems that this is caused by the DRM driver:

[ 579.639] (II) config/udev: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card0)
[ 579.642] (--) PCI:*(0:0:2:0) 1013:00b8:1af4:1100 rev 0, Mem @
0xfc00/33554432, 0xfebf/4096, BIOS @ 0x/65536

The DRM driver is not presend/loaded in Ubuntu 12.04.2. Subsequently the CIRRUS
module loads fine
and the graphic is working as expected.

I will try if the resolution for this bug here fixes the problem:

Are you sure that the problem is between libcairo 1.12.2 and 1.12.4? I
recechecked with Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS 64bit Desktop CDROM with is based on
libcario 1.10.2 and it also shows this bug.

And has anyone tested this with a real Cirrus Logic graphic card? I
still wonder if this is an emulation bug in qemu or a driver problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155911] [NEW] no network connection because module jme is not available

2013-03-16 Thread Lieven
Public bug reported:

Release: Lubuntu 13.04 daily build, march 12, 2013

I will attach the following files
lspci.txt (output of lspci -vvnn)
dmesg.txt (dmesg)
lsmod.txt (output of lsmod)

I will also attach the file 12.04-lsmod.txt, which gives the output of
the same lsmod command, but run from Lubuntu 12.04.

The difference between the two files is obvious: In 12.04 all needed
modules were available, in 13.04 much of the needed modules are gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155788] Re: usb-mouse doesn't work

Ok, it turns out this unwanted behaviour is due to not selecting the
standard proposed kernel during debian-installer. I'll file a separate
report for that issue. This one can be closed.

2011-09-06 Thread Lieven
It 's already booting for more than 20 minutes, and still no X. I don't
think that's reasonable, especially not because it's a rather new
computer with a dual-core cpu and 4 GB RAM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 842860] Re: lubuntu-11.10-beta1-desktop-i386.iso doesn't boot to X automatically

2011-09-06 Thread Lieven
** Description changed:

- Booting of X doesn't succeed. Instead I get a CLI-prompt. I've I type startx,
then X starts, but at least two things are wrong:
- Firstly, the layout is not the lubuntu-layout. Instead it's a standard
lxde-layout with the gnome-icon-theme. Secondly, I have to mount usb-sticks
manually via lxterminal. In pcmanfm it just doesn't work (I get a message 'not
autorized'). I have also tried the lubuntu-11.10-beta1-alternate-i386.iso and
after installation I had none of these problems. I tried to remaster lubuntu,
added some packages and removed some, and on one computer the problems
dissappeared, on another it got worse (could not get to X even if i typed
startx). I'll attach the files dmesg, syslog and Xorg.0.log of the computer
booting the standard lubuntu-11.10-beta1-desktop-i386.iso, where the situation
after remastering got worse. I don't know if this may be related to bug
#791139. I'll let it boot for about 20 minutes and see what happens, so I may
update this report afterwards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 271426] Re: [Intrepid A5] Xserver fails to start on live-cd (signal 11)

2009-07-29 Thread Lieven
Just tried the 9.10 alpha3 livecd, and it boots very well, just a bit
slow (it took about 10 minutes to boot) but that's because of the age of
the computer.

The serial mouse still isn't working out of the box though, but it never
did since I started using ubuntu 3 years ago. I used to fix this by
messing around in xorg.conf which did the trick. In Windows XP the mouse
works OK.

I don't know if it's reasonable to try to get that fixed, probably not
any more, since we're talking of hardware that's pretty old. (some parts
are more than 10 years old). If it could be fixed that would be great of
course, but I understand there may be more important things to fix.

Thanks for fixing bug #271426.
