[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061257] [NEW] Many app failures under Wayland; no issues with Xorg
Public bug reported: Many applications seem to fail under a Wayland session that work correctly with an Xorg session. E.g. - The nextcloud client app fails to contact the server and functions in the app will not launch with Wayland while they work perfectly in Xorg - The Vivaldi browser exits with: MESA-INTEL: warning: Haswell Vulkan support is incomplete libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init failed. It works correctly under Xorg. - The Slack app works correct in Xorg not in Wayland. - The Firefox snap works fine in both. I assume that these are related? Esp. that latter suggests to me that there is some library problem? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037641] Re: amdgpu: [gfxhub0] no-retry page fault
Thanks Mario! I checked, and I have the newest mesa: ``` $ apt search mesa-vdpau Sorting... Done Full Text Search... Done mesa-vdpau-drivers/mantic,now 23.2.1-1ubuntu2 amd64 [installed, automatic] Mesa VDPAU video acceleration drivers ``` Funny thing is that the bug is no longer reproducible - everything is working properly, yay! Could it be that mesa was upgraded a couple of days ago, resolving the issue? Anyways, the issue looks to be fixed now. Additional information: This bug only manifests when using Ubuntu in Virtualbox. I confirm this issue affects users of NVIDIA 495 and 510 drivers if they use an Xpresent compositor such as Marco (the MATE Windows Manager) or Metacity 3.42. It affects Ubuntu MATE 20.04 and 21.10 users. ** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1959995 Title: present: Crash in 'present_scmd_get_crtc' and 'present_flush' (NVIDIA 495.46) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1959995/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

umockdev's test suite now started to see this crash in current Ubuntu jammy. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1915704] [NEW] Specific pointing device disappear/disconnect when standby
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 20.10 groovy (x86-64) Cinnamon 4.6.7 Kernel 5.8.0-43-generic I installed Ubuntu while using a Microsft mise. This one works great with no problem. The buttons are old and used out, so I changed it with a Trust with RGB. The Trust mouse seems disconnected when going to standby (need keyboard, since mouse seems disconnected to show password prompt). The only way to get the mouse back to work, is to disconnect and reconnect it. What's narrow in this, is that I've tried again with the old pointing device (from Microsoft), and this one still is recognised in standby, and I'm able to click to open the password prompt. I've read this repport: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1573454 But it seems not totaly the same, since I've the problem with a pointer and not the other one. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1733083] Re: trackpoint slow and hard to move
Hi, On my HP EliteBook 840 G2 I'm seeing the same issue. I saw the issue on Ubuntu 20.04, but upgrading to 20.10 made no difference. It was suggested[1] to switch to the 'evdev' input driver. So I installed the 'xserver-xorg-input-evdev' package and added the following file: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/5-trackpoint.conf Section "InputClass" Identifier "evdev trackpoint" MatchIsPointer "on" MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*" MatchProduct "PS/2 Generic Mouse" Driver "evdev" EndSection This seems to make my tracpoint usable again. - Martin [1] https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=217136 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libinput in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733083 Title: trackpoint slow and hard to move To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libinput/+bug/1733083/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1878670] Re: Reproduceable i915 gpu hang Intel Iris Plus Graphics (Ice Lake 8x8 GT2)
Well, similar experience for me today, booted and logged in okay, but then the desktop session died leaving monitor backlight and keyboard lights on, but no other sign of life. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
In comment #50, I said having the proprietary drivers aren't necessary. I was wrong, but I thought it was true because I had the problem on an nvidia system without manually installing the nvidia drivers. I just learned from an episode of the Ubuntu Podcast that since Ubuntu 19.10, proprietary drivers are included with the ISO, and that they're automatically enabled when you check the "install third-party software" option during install. That's interesting, because it means that the conditions for encountering this bug are: 1. Have a system with an affected nvidia graphics card. 2. Check both "enable automatic login" and "install third-party software" during install. I don't know the stats, but I would bet most people check the third- party software box, and that lots of people want automatic login. In my opinion, this makes the issue significantly more important, because people will encounter this issue without entering "Additional Drivers" and manually enabling the proprietary drivers. Especially considering there's a simple workaround available ("nvidia- drm.modeset=1" in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX) which doesn't affect any features, I think it would be good to get a hotfix out there before the upstream nvidia proprietary drivers are fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845801 Title: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
I can confirm that auto-login with the kernel parameters "quiet splash nvidia-drm.modeset=1" works without issues, and that auto-login with just "quiet splash" is still broken for me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
@Rajat Pandita: awesome, thanks for sharing! I came here to report that I too was experiencing this bug: GTX 1060, up-to-date Focal Fossa beta, NVidia 440 driver series, 5.4.0-24 kernel. Couldn't log in. Removing `splash` from grub's kernel parameters solved the issue, but adding `nvidia-drm.modeset=1` is a much better solution since it leaves the splash screen unaffected (so you get a nice-looking boot). Besides, I remember from using KDE on Archlinux that `nvidia-drm.modeset=1` is required to get decent performance from NVidia drivers on KDE (though on Ubuntu I'm using Gnome). The driver install script should really edit and update grub configuration accordingly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772588] Re: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive
Good. Just to emphasize, Geode doesn't make sense on distros where the base level for i386 is 686-PAE, since none of the Geodes have PAE (most Geodes are i586, except for Geode LX which is 686 without PAE). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-trident in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772588 Title: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-mtrack/+bug/1772588/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772588] Re: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive
As I have previously commented, the geode driver is NOT obsolete. It should not be removed at Debian, where i386 is still 686 without PAE. Please ammend the Debian bug report accordingly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
@vanvugt: Actually, the only things necessary to trigger this bug (and thus leave your computer useless) is to install Ubuntu, with auto-login enabled, and an nvidia card in your computer. The proprietary drivers aren't necessary. Considering nvidia's market share (80% according to the steam hardware survey, which will be skewed towards people with discrete GPUs, but still), I think giving this issue a priority of low is wrong. I think preventing people from bricking their systems should be given a higher priority. Maybe add a feature in the installer to detect if someone has an nvidia GPU, and prevent them to enable auto login if they do. Or maybe remove "splash" from the kernel CLI args for people with an nvidia GPU by default. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] [NEW] Trying to log in just takes me back to the login screen. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it.
Public bug reported: I just updated to the Ubuntu 19.10 beta. After boot, I'm shown the GDM login screen (which I shouldn't; I have auto login enabled), and logging in just takes me back to the same user selection screen even though the password is correct. If I switch to a TTY and run `sudo pkill gnome-session-binary`, logging in through GDM starts working again. I should add that the do-release-upgrade was rocky; I did it in a terminal from within gnome, went away for a while, and when I returned, I just saw an Ubuntu 19.10 in a TTY. I was able to do `sudo dpkg --configure -a` and complete the upgrade, but I don't know if something's still messed up due to that. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1714178]
I posted a patch series for -modesetting that fixes this issue, and also adds TearFree support: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/merge_requests/24 The patch series from Ville (https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/series/49663/) will however be what you are looking for, as it will not reduce the performance at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714178 Title: Triple 4K monitor display failed (modesetting driver limited to 8192x8192) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1714178/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873942]
Thanks for the patch. This does a fair job of avoiding an explicit crash whenever DDC is unavailable. When that happens, restricting available modes to those that AMD considers safe i.e. Panel-friendly modes, is indeed a promising strategy. However, that strategy doesn't guarantee that the selected mode is something that the connected VGA monitor can handle. It's a shot in the dark and the mode we try, 1920x1440, is a large enough size (and an uncommon enough resolution) that we cannot consider that shot in the dark to be a safe one. Thinking out loud, 800x600, 1024x768 or 1280x1024 would probably be safer modes to attempt whenever DDC is unavailable, pretty much in that order. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-geode in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873942 Title: xf86-video-geode: driver initialization fails on Geode LX if DDC pins are configured for serial console To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/873942/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi, Thanks for fixing the issue! I didn't see it the last weeks anymore, so I think you can close the ticket. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772588] Re: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive
> -geode: i386 only, no kernel support since moving to i586 (or i686?) The Geode LX is an i686 without PAE. It is still supported by the Linux kernel. However, the Geode KMS driver that someone had started working on was never merged into the kernel tree. This means that xf86-video-geode won't work without the X root wrapper and it cannot be used with GNOME or any other DE that depend upon KSM-enabled drivers.
