[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767468] Re: Upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 disables hardware acceleration on Intel Graphics

2018-04-28 Thread Michele
Ok I fixed the problem on my system. This has nothing to do with
libglvnd but I don't know to which package it should be attributed.
Problem (at least for me) seems to be linked to

/etc/X11/Xsession.d/50_check_unity_support

that fails (as I had uninstalled unity after update) and causes Xsession to
fall-back on LLVMPipe.
Remove or comment that file and accelerated drivers are back

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 (Skylake GT2)

Hope this helps, and that someone more experienced can tag the
appropriate package so that the update removes this leftover check.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767468] Re: Upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 disables hardware acceleration on Intel Graphics

2018-04-28 Thread Michele
Running on a live evaluation gets proper HW acceleration, but I'd really
rather avoid having to reinstall if it can be avoided. A pointer for
where to look for trouble would be much appreciated, all of the obvious
log files show no sign of trouble.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767468] Re: Upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 disables hardware acceleration on Intel Graphics

2018-04-28 Thread Michele
Similar problem. I actually had updated to 18.04 beta, with no problems.
The issue manifested itself after I upgraded to the final release
yesterday. I don't think it's related to similar other bugs as I have
libegl-mesa0 . I also cannot find any error message in the logs, seems
that Xorg loads all of the HW acceleration libraries just fine, but for
some reason gnome-shell runs on llvmpipe.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1141853] [NEW] Need a dipendence to work properly

2013-03-03 Thread Michele Olivo
Public bug reported:

I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 x64 on my desktop with GeForce 8500GT.
I have some lags using nouveau, so i have decided to install the package using
the tool 'software sources' (but is the same with apt-get command).
After the reboot, the video server does not work anymore, fortunately removing
the package from the console restore the situation.
Installing the package 'linux-headers-generic' and then the driver package
again, all works fine.
I suggest to add the package 'linux-headers-generic' as dependence to solve the
problem.

If it help I will send the xsession-errors file.

I also have installed the precise-proposed drivers in both ubuntu and
xubuntu 12.04 on the same machine (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500) and it works
well on both installations, but in ubuntu it keeps using unity-2d instead
of unity. Is this the correct behavoir?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows

2012-04-06 Thread Michele Giacomoli
I'm trying your PPA, it'work, but since I added the PPA sometimes when a
program opens a popup (for example nautilus asking you if you want to
overwrite a file or not, libreoffice asking you if you want save your
document using an open format or the MS one), compiz hangs, I cannot
interact with the UI, and I have to kill Xorg. This problem doesn't happen
the first time you open a popup, but the second or third time you open
different popups (for example at first I save an xls file with libreoffice
- first popup, nothing happens, then I overwrite an old file with the
newer one - second popup, compiz hangs and I have to kill Xorg)

Sorry for my poor English

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)

2011-06-21 Thread Michele
I installed the kernel posted by Timo, and so far I am pretty happy with it.
Let me test it for a few days, though: on my machine (thinkpad t410) these
crashes are a bit erratic.
This is what I tested so far:

Booted docked - correctly shows both LVDS and external monitor
undocked - correctly updates monitors to display only LVDS
re-docked - updates and shows both LVDS and external monitor
suspended docked, undocked, resumed - black screen. fixed by switching to
console and back
suspended undocked, docked, resumed - shows both LVDS and external monitor
correctly.

I'll let you know if the fix is really stable.
Thanks for the effort fixing this annoying bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 663147] Re: [Maverick]: no 3D acceleration on Intel chip

2010-11-12 Thread Michele Mordenti
Disabling the vsync, opengl runs smoothly both inside KDE with no kwin effects
both outside on a fluxbox wm.
2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420fps
More or less the same performance of lucid.
Inside KDE with kwin effects and no vsync I loose 50% of performance.
Maybe not a xorg-intel bug?

To disable vsync on opengl edit .drirc on $HOME direcotry.
cat ~/.drirc
option name=vblank_mode value=0/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 663197] [NEW] poor performance on maverik

2010-10-19 Thread Michele Mordenti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

In all my intel system I have poor graphics performance.

For example, on my Dell d430 (kubuntu 10.04)
Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
with glxgears I have :
1860 frame in 5 secods with all kwin stuffs
2400 frame in 5 seconds without kwin stuffs

Booting kubuntu 10.10 from a pendrive I have:
50 frame in 5 secods ( 10fps!!!)

Sounds like the bug #303011

On my eeepc901 same problem:
with 10.04
800 frame in 5 secods with all kwin stuffs
1000 frame in 5 seconds without kwin stuffs
and after upgrading to 10.10
95 frame in 5 secods ( 19fps!!!)

Also tested outside KDE with fluxbox wm.
Also tested with a 82865G chipset.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411294] Re: Resume broken with new ATI stack

2010-02-04 Thread Michele
Great to know that this has been fixed for Lynx. Any hope to have the fix
backported to the Koala?
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411294] Re: Resume broken with new ATI stack

2009-12-09 Thread Michele
sorry to bother, but since this seems to be fixed upstream, can anyone
eitherport the patch to ubuntu repositories, or provide instructions to
fix this while we wait for the changes to propagate? tkx

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 369759] Re: (UXA) swap space is not freed when it is no longer used

2009-10-14 Thread Michele Bini
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 360319 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/360319

As a temporary fix, I have added the following memory usage limits to
/etc/security/limits.conf

root soft data 3000
root hard data 6000

It seems to work well and I can run many intensive X applications like
wine and firefox without the intensive memory usage and swapping I
experienced until yesterday.

I'm using xserver-xorg-video-intel, version 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu1
