[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1879402] Re: [amdgpu] Proper monitor resolution/refresh rate not available

2023-03-23 Thread Timothy Quinn
I've been having something similar with my 20.04 system. Every day,
whenever I leave my computer on but turn off displays, one of the three
monitors is locked at 640x480 when I power my monitors back on. It also
happened when power settings turned off displays automatically, which
I've subsequently disabled.

My GPU: Radeon RX6650 XT
Driver: xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu - 19.1.0-1ubuntu0.1

I've discovered a fix by going into Display Config and disable the bad
monitor. Once I re-enable. I can the change its resolution to a proper
setting.

This is not an intermittent issue but happens like clockwork.

Should I open a different ticket for this?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1932979] [NEW] blank screen with cursor after login

2021-06-18 Thread Jerry Quinn
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 on amd64.

I came back to the machine after it was idle long enough for the screen
to go blank. I can see the cursor move with the mouse, but nothing
else. This is VT2.

VT1 shows a login screen. I can get to console VTs as well and did so
to file the report.

I see the following in the system log that may be related:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1702827] [NEW] X fails to set DPI correctly

2017-07-06 Thread Jerry Quinn
Public bug reported:

I have the common problem of everything being too small when switching
to a 4K monitor. One issue is that X is setting DPI to 96 instead of
157 for my 28" 4K monitor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1377476] [NEW] Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series (7537) laptop's touchpad unusable because during window moves or drag and drop items move around wildly

2014-10-04 Thread Jason Quinn
Public bug reported:

Touchpad for the Dell Inspiron 7537 cannot move objects on desktop
without troubles. I have tried this under the GNOME, KDE, and Unity
desktops and they all show the problem so it is not there. I have the
latest (A10) BIOS from Dell and am running a fully up-to-date Ubuntu
14.04.

It is the intergrated touchpad (well, clickpad since there are no
distinct buttons) for one of Dell's most popular laptops. A web search
finds other people having similar trouble.

You cannot move windows around because they jump around wildly making
the device practically unusable. It requires using an external mouse
with the laptop.

Problem is almost surely with the Synaptic driver for the touchpad.

Here's the output of "lspci" if that helps:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1322879] Re: Wake from Suspend

2014-05-24 Thread Quinn Balazs
This may be an X issue, or may be a kernel issue. After waking from
suspend, ssh into the affected machine and run "sudo service lightdm
stop" if the screen lights back up after killing LightDM the issue
probably lies in Xorg, where if the screen remains dark after killing
LightDM it's probably a kernel issue. After the X server exits, you
should be dumped to a low res console window.

completely unrelated to xorg, hence changing this over to cairo-dock.

2014-02-03 Thread Quinn Balazs
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information.

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246203] Re: Mouse point does not appear

2013-10-30 Thread Quinn Balazs
Bluez handles the detection of USB devices. Since the cursor moves (even
though it is not displayed), the detection seems to have happened fine.
The actual displaying/functionality of the mouse is handled by X, in
particular xserver-xorg-input-evdev.

Please collect logs for this report using "apport-collect 1246203"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245730] Re: just installed ubuntu and found this.

2013-10-29 Thread Quinn Balazs
The Cinnamon Project is not tracked in Launchpad, the preferred method
of reporting a bug against the project as a whole, is to file one here:
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues. There are known issues
with Cinnamon and Unity not working well together in 13.10. If this
issue is fixed in the Ubuntu package, file this on Cinnamon's tracker,
and give us a link to the bug. If this is still happening in the Ubuntu
package, file against the Cinnamon package in Ubuntu, and link us the
upstream report.

Before filing anything against Cinnamon, please attach /var/log/syslog
to this report. It would also be helpful if you could tell us what the
text of the X error that you experienced was, as that will make it
easier to tell if we are targeting Cinnamon or X in this issue.

Thanks,

Quinn Balazs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1226039] Re: frequency of gpu hangs increased dramatically over the weekend

2013-09-16 Thread Quinn Balazs
I experience the same issue. I've tested this a bit, and this only
happens (to me at least) with Intel Haswell and Iris. I know that
almost an identical situation (hangs slightly more frequently) was
encountered with SandyBridge, and a patch to X was issued then, and
there was a patch for X when IvyBridge came out that also fixed GPU
hangs. Wheter or not this is helpful, I hope this gets resolved quickly,
as it does unfortunately make the device a pain in the ass to use.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1222791] Re: (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed

2013-09-09 Thread Quinn Balazs
I have a few questions and a couple suggestions. First, are you using
fglrx, or the open source radeon driver? Would you mind attaching the
output of the following "dmesg | egrep 'drm|radeon'" Generally issues
like these are caused by broken/misloaded drivers. Also it would be
interesting to see if there is a point where the EQ size gets to a point
where it can handle the massive quantity of events. grepping radeon
should tell if it is the culprit, and if it isn't then a closer look at
X should show what the issue is.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1216902] Re: system freezes

2013-08-26 Thread Quinn Balazs
This isn't the first issue with Xorg freezes using version 304.88 of the
nvidia driver, however there is a newer version out (310.19) that may
solve the problem, as it seems that a fix for this was released from
what I can tell. Use the following to ensure it gets loaded properly:

Execute the following in tty1, accessed using Ctrl+Alt+F1

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
Check if it's loaded using: sudo /sbin/lsmod | grep nvidia
If it isn't you will have to load it manually:
First ensure all kernel dependencies are resolved sudo depmod -a
Then load the driver sudo modprobe nvidia_current
Now if you try lsmod it should display it as loaded, but to benefit from the
driver you will need to restart the desktop environment, by using sudo
/etc/init.d/lightdm restart

Even if it is shown as loaded in lsmod you should still restart the
desktop environment using sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart

Hope this helps

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1211207] Re: Keyboard and Mouse stop working after undefined time

2013-08-19 Thread Quinn Balazs
Confirmed that something is seriously wrong here. Are you using any sort
of USB hub, or only the onboard USB ports? But for all intents and
purposes it seems to be an X problem, where evdev isn't loaded along
with the mouse and keyboard, leading to the them being ignored because
an input device was not specified. The next thing to look at would be
why it's doing this after a period of time. I am working on that and
will get back to you once I've figured out what particularly is to fault
with the devices are "refreshing" themselves and having to be reloaded.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1211207] Re: Keyboard and Mouse stop working after undefined time

2013-08-18 Thread Quinn Balazs
Also, just as something that I noticed looking over the logs that you
already provided, is there an integrated keyboard and touchpad included
with the machine? And if there is, do those cease functioning when the
USB keyboard and mouse do. It does however look like everything is
normally detected properly and is functioning properly while it is in
use. More information will come from dmesg.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1211207] Re: Keyboard and Mouse stop working after undefined time

2013-08-18 Thread Quinn Balazs
Before trying this, attempt to switch to a virtual terminal using the
frozen keyboard on the off chance that that hotkey combo still is
received. If that works just execute the commands there, but if not you
will have to do the following:

They will not contain relevant information after reboot, so what you
will have to do will involve another machine on the same wireless or
wired network. Install the package openssh-server (sudo apt-get install
openssh-server) on the pc that has the issue, and then ssh into it to
run the relevant commands. If the other machine uses Windows you will
need to install putty.exe from
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html. If the
other machine uses either Linux or MacOS you can use the command: ssh
user@hostname. With user being your account name and host being the IP
address of the affected Ubuntu machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1211207] Re: Keyboard and Mouse stop working after undefined time

2013-08-17 Thread Quinn Balazs
Okay, so with USB keyboard and mouse issues there are a few logs that
need to be attached.

Run the following commands one at a time in a terminal window. Just
pasting them from here into it should work fine.

lsusb -v > ~/lsusb-v
uname -a > ~/uname-a
cat /proc/version_signature > ~/version_signature
sudo lspci -vvnn > ~/lspci-vvnn (This one will ask for an admin password as it
uses sudo)

And attach the following output logs to the bug report. All these should
be found by navigating to the root filesystem, but these are the paths
for them.

~/lsusb-v, ~/uname-a, ~/version_signature and ~/lspci-vvnn

These are just general logs, for your particular issue, you will need an
additional mouse and keyboard, preferably not connected by USB. Connect
the additional mouse and keyboard before powering on your machine. Once
logged in, the first thing you should do is to open a terminal window
and enter the following commands: dmesg > ~/dmesg_boot and cp
/var/log/Xorg.0.log ~/Xorg.0.log.

Now comes the part where the extra mouse and keyboard comes into play.
Wait for your primary mouse or keyboard to stop working, then, on the
2nd keyboard press ctrl+alt+f1 to open a virtual terminal window, in
that terminal enter the following commands one at a time (once again you
can just paste them over):

LANG=C
dmesg > ~/dmesg
diff -ns ~/dmesg_boot ~/dmesg > ~/dmesg_diff
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log ~/Xorg.0.log_tmp
diff -ns ~/Xorg.0.log ~/Xorg.0.log_tmp > ~/Xorg.0.log_diff

This has to be done when the primary keyboard isn't working so that
dmesg and Xorg can collect information about what went wrong with it.
After finishing those commands, attach the following log files to the
report, again, here are the paths for them:

~/dmesg_boot, ~/dmesg_diff, ~/Xorg.0.log and ~/Xorg.0.log_diff.

And that should give enough information for the problem to be weeded
out.

As always, If you have any issues with these directions, feel free to
contact me through launchpad, or ask for help in irc at either #ubuntu-
bugs or #ubuntu-X

~Quinn Balazs

(also this bug is an Xorg issue and is hereby marked that way)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021517] Re: Xorg-server crashes reproducible with GIMP usage

2012-07-16 Thread Matt Quinn
I am using Touchpad-Indicator, so it's not happening just via doing the
key command. Although maybe that's essentially the same thing. My
technical skills are virtually nil.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660405] Re: computer freezes on suspend/hibernate

2010-11-06 Thread Quinn
Seeing this as well on my HP CQ60 (GMA 9 Graphics). Specifically, it's
suspend that's hampered on this machine; haven't seen any issues with
hibernate (other than initially the swap being too small to allow
hibernate -- which was rather-easily fixed). ;)
