[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068994]
Created attachment 78124 touch-fix.patch I have partial (full?) success (on the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist, an Intel- based convertible, see also https://launchpad.net/bugs/1068994 and https://launchpad.net/bugs/1015183): I have rebuilt the current Ubuntu Raring package of xorg-server (1.13.3-0ubuntu5) with the following two patches: 1. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~whot/xserver/commit/?h=touch-grab-race- condition-56578-v2&id=0498a4f0e0b90a850df7022a3356f10adabff855 (found via comment #17) 2. http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2013-April/035878.html and after that clicking via touch screen on the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist works reliably. Only remaining (minor) problems are (but the touch click ability does not get lost by them): a. In Chromium when you create a new tab, the new tab contains icons for web apps (at least the app store and perhaps some examples). These icons cannot be clicked by touch, only with a mouse. All the rest in Chromium is clickable by touch. b. Touch clicks do not work in XBMC, but after using and leaving XBMC with an external mouse on the normal desktop touch-clicking works again. These are probably separate bugs which got revealed by the now working touch click. Complete patch for xorg-server is attached. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068994 Title: button1 gets stuck after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1068994/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068994] Re: button1 gets stuck after a while
Patola, I do not really know about the internals of touch, I am working on the printing part of Linux. As I bought a laptop with touch screen recently, I wanted to get it to work and started discussing the problem with Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst), the maintainer of the xorg-xserver source package, on IRC and he gave me some hints, including updating to 1.14 and applying a huge patch, but before doing this I followed some less invasive hints from him, and this made the simple touch left click reliably working (my package from comment #71, comment #74, comment #77, and comment #92). I asked Maarten yesterday whether he could apply this to Raring, but he says that there are still a lot of problems, like crash of his Nexus 7 and on the linked Freedesktop bug today a comment (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56578#c43) got posted, saying - ok, I'll be honest. this is a giant mess where we potentially access dangling pointers and sorting this out is nasty. my attempts to do so today have failed badly. fix will come, but not too soon I'm afraid - So someone really knowing about how this works has to fix it, or Ubuntu has to decide for the Wayland/MIR switchover for the desktop early in the next cycle.

It has an internal 1366x768 (16:9) display and I have connected and external 1920x1080 (16:9) monitor via HDMI. By default the display gets mirrored with only 1024x768 (4:3) because this is the highest common resolution of the two reported by xrandr. I can switch to a large desktop formed by the two screens with the System Settings (section "Display") with each screen using its native resolution. I can mirror with a higher resolution running the commands: xrandr --addmode HDMI1 1366x768 xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1366x768 xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1366x768 --same-as LVDS1 This is rather awkward when using a projector. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
I have partial (full) success (on the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist, an Intel- based convertible, see also bug 1068994): I have rebuilt the current Raring package of xorg-server (1.13.3-0ubuntu5) with the following two patches: 1. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~whot/xserver/commit/?h=touch-grab-race- condition-56578-v2&id=0498a4f0e0b90a850df7022a3356f10adabff855 (found via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56578#c17) 2. http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2013-April/035878.html and after that clicking via touch screen on the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist works reliably. Only remaining problems are (but the touch click ability does not get lost by them): a. ** Patch added: "touch-fix.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1015183/+attachment/3646221/+files/touch-fix.patch ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium => High ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => ubuntu-13.04 ** Also affects: xorg-server via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56578 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015183 Title: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1015183/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1167301] [NEW] Mirroring display works only with 1024x768 (4:3) resolution whereas my laptop has 1366x768 (16:9) and the external monitor1920x1080 (16:9)
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist with Core i7 processor and on-chip HD4000 GPU. The problem also persists when connecting the external screen to the Mini DisplayPort (with adapter) instead of to the HDMI. The output of "xrandr --prop" with both screens connected in large- desktop-over-both-screens mode (no mirroring): Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3286 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767 LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 277mm x 156mm EDID: 000030e47a03 00160103801c10780adce5975a559227 1d50540001010101010101010101 010101010101241d56d4500016303020 2500159c101b 00fe004c 4720446973706c61790a202000fe 004c503132355748322d534c54310025 BACKLIGHT: 1054 (0x041e) range: (0,1054) Backlight: 1054 (0x041e) range: (0,1054) scaling mode: Full aspect supported: None Full Center Full aspect 1366x768 59.8*+ 1360x768 59.8 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI1 connected 1920x1080+1366+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 510mm x 287mm EDID: 000015c3692001010101 2d14010380331d78eaee95a3544c9926 0f5054a1080081808140b30081c00101 010101010101023a801871382d40582c 4500fe1f111e00ff00353732 32393131300a2020202000fc0045 563233570a202020202000fd 003b3d1f440f000a2020202020200153 02031b41468102031112042309070783 0167030c001300881e8c0ad08a20 e02d10103e9600040300188c0ad0 8a20e02d10103e9600100900188c 0ad090204031200c405500040300 188c0ad090204031200c405500100900 18011d007251d01e206e28550010 09001e5c Broadcast RGB: Automatic supported: Automatic Full Limited 16:2 audio: auto supported: force-dvi off auto on 1920x1080 60.0*+ 1680x1050 59.9 1280x1024 60.0 1280x960 60.0 1280x720 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 720x576 50.0 720x480 59.9 640x480 60.0 59.9 720x400 70.1 DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) Broadcast RGB: Automatic supported: Automatic Full Limited 16:2 audio: auto supported: force-dvi off auto on HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) Broadcast RGB: Automatic supported: Automatic Full Limited 16:2 audio: auto supported: force-dvi off auto on DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) Broadcast RGB: Automatic supported: Automatic Full Limited 16:2 audio: auto supported: force-dvi off auto on --- .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: raring DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2205] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-03-28 (12 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Alpha amd64 (20130328) MachineType: LENOVO 334729G MarkForUpload: True Package: xorg-server (not installed) ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.8.0-17-generic root=UUID=7229d092-c8f9-4b8a-bae8-529fc6a0340f ro elevator=deadline quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-17.27-generic 3.8.6 Tags: raring ubuntu compiz-0.9 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-17-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip libvirtd lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo dmi.bios.date: 02/05/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: GDET92WW (1.52 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 334729G dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Win8 Pro DPK TPG dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrGDET92WW(1.52):bd02/05/2013:svnLENOVO:pn334729G:pvrThinkPadTwist:rvnLENOVO:rn334729G:rvrWin8ProDPKTPG:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 334729G dmi.product.version:

By default the display gets mirrored with only 1024x768 (4:3) because this is the highest common resolution of the two reported by xrandr. I can switch to a large desktop formed by the two screens with the System Settings (section "Display") with each screen using its native resolution. To get a better mirroring I tried to mirror my screen via the command xrandr --output LVDS 1--auto --output HDMI1 --auto --same-as LVDS1 taken from https://kis.kellogg.northwestern.edu/Pages/ExternalDisplaysLinux.aspx After that both screens showed garbage and do not react to mouse clicks and key presses any more. Unplugging the external screen left the internal with the garbage and I had to SSH in from another Ubuntu machine and run sudo restart lightdm to recover the display of the laptop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1156310] Re: xrandr detects too many displays
Now I have upgraded the PC to Raring now and there the problem still persists. According to "uname -a" I am using the kernel 3.8.0-13-generic #23~lp1156548v1. I hope this is a kernel intended for Raring (Quantal has 3.5.x kernels). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1156310 Title: xrandr detects too many displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxrandr/+bug/1156310/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I have tested your test kernel from comment #11 on both machines now and get exactly the same results as with the kernel from comment #7. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1156310] Re: xrandr detects too many displays
I have reported the same symptoms earlier with an Intel Core i5 PC running Quantal, bug 1029865. I have installed the kernel from comment #7 also there and booted it, but that machine still shows the ghost VGA display and due to that comes up with a 1024x768 login screen. I have checked with "uname -a" that the fixed kernel is actually running. Is the fixed kernel not applicable to Quantal? Are more components of Raring needed (like X.org)? If so, I would try an upgrade to Raring. The xrandr output is as follows: -- till@till:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192 VGA1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 56.2 848x48060.0 640x48059.9 HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI2 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 510mm x 287mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 1680x1050 59.9 1280x1024 60.0 1280x960 60.0 1280x720 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 720x57650.0 720x48059.9 640x48060.0 59.9 720x40070.1 DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) till@till:~$ -- -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1156310 Title: xrandr detects too many displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxrandr/+bug/1156310/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1156585] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise()
Public bug reported: On a virtual Raring machine under kvm-qemu and Virtual Machine Manager to display the machine's screen in a window on the host's desktop I switched the emulated graphics card from cirrus first to qxl and when this only showed a black screen I switched to vmvga. As the default resolution was higher than the resolution of any really existing monitor I used the "Display" section of the System Settings to turn it to a more useful value, first to 1920x1080 (native resolution of host's monitor) and after that to 1280x720 (for displaying in a window) which all worked. The crash happend probably while booting into vmvga and got only visible by the automatic crash report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022606] Re: Black screen with mouse pointer after booting Ubuntu using monitor with 1680x1050 resolution
Another test: I got an HDMI switch box (Ligawo HDMI Matrix 4->2 - 3D, with audio extractor) now, to connect more than one video/audio source to one HDMI input of a screen. It seems that the device fakes a better HDMI monitor input than the passive HDMI->DVI switch as during a new Raring installation (on another SD card) I get an absolutely correct 1920x1080 image on my monitor and after boot I get also a working desktop with 1920x1080. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-video-omap in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1022606 Title: Black screen with mouse pointer after booting Ubuntu using monitor with 1680x1050 resolution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linaro-ubuntu/+bug/1022606/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022606] Re: Black screen with mouse pointer after booting Ubuntu using monitor with 1680x1050 resolution
If I plug the monitor into the HDMI port I do not get any screen output, neither for the X desktop nor for the text console, but X is running and if I SSH in from another machine xrandr gives: till@till-panda:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 2048 x 2048 DVI-D-1 disconnected HDMI-1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 510mm x 287mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 1680x1050 59.9 1400x1050 59.9 1280x1024 60.0 1280x960 60.0 1360x768 60.0 1280x768 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 848x48060.0 640x48060.0 till@till-panda:~$ So X finds the correct resolution when the monitor is connected to the HDMI port but the monitor does not see any signal. The monitor has only a DVI port and is connected via a passive HDMI->DVI adapter. The monitor (EIZO EV2333W 23", 1920x1080 native) works on the HDMI port of the Pandaboard if the Pandaboard is running Precise. Running Raring with the Pandaboard connected to a TV (Sony Bravia from 2007, 720p) the desktop displays immediately without any problems. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058835] Re: Black screen with only mouse cursor when resuming from screen power saving mode
Following the instructions from Maarten Lankhorst on IRC I have created /etc/X11/X2: #!/bin/bash exec /usr/bin/valgrind --freelist-vol=5 --track-origins=yes --leak-resolution=high --malloc-fill=ef --free-fill=df /usr/bin/Xorg "$@" -verbose 10 &>> /home/till/vg.$(hostname) made it executable and redirected the /etc/X11/X link to it. I have also installed valgrind, xserver-xorg-core-dbg, xserver-xorg-input-evdev-dbg, xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-dbg, xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg. After that I have logged out and logged in again so that X runs under Valgrind. The problem does not occur very often, only every few days. As soon as it happened I switched to a text console and first copiied the log file from vg.till to vg.till.1 (attached) and then ran "sudo apport-bug xorg" to create this bug report (the command starts a text mode browser). The log file vg.till.1 is attached. ** Attachment added: "vg.till.1" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1058835/+attachment/3356682/+files/vg.till.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058835 Title: Black screen with only mouse cursor when resuming from screen power saving mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1058835/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029891] Re: Intel HD graphics: Every 20th keystroke dropped
Bryce, currently the computer is returned on warranty for repair, as due to other problems I tried to update the firmware (BIOS) and before I even got into a firmware updater utility, the box died. Probably it was already somewhat broken or the original firmware has bugs preventing an update. I will come back here and also to the other X bugs which I have reported when I have the box back. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029882] Re: Intel HD graphics: Mouse is not running smoothly
It is possible that this is a hardware problem. My board has 4 USB 3.0 ports on the back and 4 USB 2.0 ports on the back. On the front there are 2 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0. On all USB 3.0 ports (also through a USB-3.0 hub) the mouse works smoothly on the 2.0 ports it is choppy. Strange, it is for sure not a USB 3.0 mouse, it is 5 years old and also why would a mouse need USB 3.0 speed? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1029882 Title: Intel HD graphics: Mouse is not running smoothly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1029882/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
