[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2041715] [NEW] Sudden freeze/crash (with audio flickering)
Public bug reported: All of the sudden screen just got frozen (in that moment I was listening to the song and audio did not continue playing as usual, but started "flickering"). I put the note about audio here, because usually freeze affected only the screen itself and audio was playing as usual. I've been reporting the xorg freeze/hang a number of times, I thought it was about new kernel version. But recently I updated xorg package and today this happened. Will try to roll back and see what happens. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2000649] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FreezeThisEventIfNeededForSyncGrab() from DeliverGrabbedEvent() from ProcessDeviceEvent() from XkbHandleActions()

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2000649] Re: Xorg crashes or freezes
Hi! Thank you for taking your time investigating this issue! I don't really know, what you meant in 2), but here is the link with my ID pasted: https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/1757d7b8546457ecd92b2fa0f587fd8a5833d146a4408883990f1450bc67160d0e631ce4aaed7a0594917c05bf044ffcc90c3d5fe9db89d304988fc5f45f705e About crashes there ... I don't think that's related to the issue. At least, according to journalctl, it's not like some program causes the xorg to crash. It's more like, I am working and everything is good and then I switch windows or desktops (I am using bspwm always, so I don't really know if that's even the bug of xserver or bspwm). I have one crash file of conky in /var/crash, but again it happened __after__ xorg server died (according to journalctl). I did what you said, although I don't think that's the problem. Here is the id of the bug: e62b4bd4-8d29-11ed-9cd9-fa163e993415 (found in file uploaded, if that's what you meant, because there wasn't any new bug generated on this site) One key note to mention here is that I use xserver from this PPA https://launchpad.net/~nrbrtx/+archive/ubuntu/xorg-hotkeys, because otherwise I have problems with using "ctrl + shift" in bspwm. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2000649] [NEW] Xorg crashes or freezes
Public bug reported: Occasionally, (I wasn't able to reproduce it) xorg just hangs or crashes to the log screen. It happens about every two weeks, especially if I don't reboot often (However doesn't matter much, I think, because it also happens on "fresh" boot). I use bspwm (version from the jammy repository), on Lubuntu 22.04.1 (fresh install, not upgrade from 22.04, nor 20.04). Freezes occur when I switch between desktops, just hangs and that's it, no response to the keyboard, however mouse is usually usable and screen keeps updating. Crashes occur when I switch between windows or desktops (I use shortcuts for this), xorg just goes black and prints my shortcut to the screen; waits for a few secs and opens login screen. I don't know why it is happening, before 22.04 I was using 16.04 never had any problems. I tried google it, use some intel video card in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory, but it makes system unusable at all, just type is super slow and I gave up experimenting with different flags ... I really hope you can tell me something, because this bug is really annoying, especially when I have a lot of windows open and I have to open them all again and again. Thank you in advance and have a nice day! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328542] Re: [xorg-edgers] OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementation
@Graham libviennacl-dev has a build-depends on libopencl1 (virtual) and does not specify a suggested implementation (although this is against policy, so probably can be filed as a bug against that package) . opencl loaders *should* be interchangeable if they follow the traditional virtual package definition, but due to the vendor issue in implementations this is not always the case. Any package that has a build-depends on libopencl1 without specifying ocl-icd-opencl1 as the recommended dependency will depend on whatever buildd decides to pull to satisfy that dependency. I see this becoming an issue in the future. This has been discussed in debian (http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/ocl- icd.git;a=blob;f=debian/README.Debian;hb=HEAD) See for instance line #310 Even that debian readme is out of date, I have had trouble exchanging Intel-opencl and ocl-opencl between compile time and runtime. I see this becoming a bigger issue in the future, the consortium members are not doing a good job at maintaining symbol compatibility and are more concerned with vendor specific extensions to OpenCL, I feel that Ubuntu should nip it in the bud as early as possible and require all build- depends and depends to point to ocl-icd and have the virtual-package libopencl1 point only to the open implementation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1328542 Title: [xorg-edgers] OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-driver/+bug/1328542/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328542] [NEW] OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementations
Public bug reported: Relevant Packages: ocl-icd-libopencl1 Applications that wish to use OpenCL encounter a few problems when you attempt to distribute them. PROBLEM: Applications compiled against one implementation of OpenCL (libOpenCL.so) will not run on a system with another implementation installed. OpenCL loader library is supposed to be agnostic to the kernel loaded (nvidia libOpenCL.so will run amd kernels for example) but testing has shown significant performance differences when using OpenCL implementations from different vendors. System must have libOpenCL.so used at build time in order to run an application using OpenCL As the number of OpenCL applications grows there will be packaging conflicts between those built against nvidia/ocl and potentially other vendor OpenCL implementations as they are added to ubuntu. Solution: ocl-icd-libopencl1 (http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/ocl-icd- libopencl1) provides an open source implementation of libOpenCL.so that will work with vendor OpenCL kernels files provided by intel/nvidia/amd. Policy for packages to use ocl-icd as the default implementation, allowing the use of other kernel loaders for alternative packages in the same source package(if desired) ** Affects: fglrx-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ocl-icd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: fglrx-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1328542 Title: OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-driver/+bug/1328542/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328542] Re: OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementations
Minor Problem: Ubuntu does not have vendor provided OpenCL kernels for AMD/Intel in the repositories or ones compatible with cpu-only environments (fglrx should provide amd-opencl-icd, but as of trusty this is not true) - https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd-opencl-icd , can these be pushed in as trusty-updates in order to have a full and complete OpenCL system available through apt, allowing packaged distribution of OpenCL (and in turn other derivative compute libraries like Boost.Compute and ViennaCL) applications through ubuntu that can run on any supported hardware configuration. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1328542 Title: OCL-ICD provides a free generic OpenCL implementation, should ubuntu policy be to build applications against this loader vs closed vendor implementations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-driver/+bug/1328542/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 has-workaround reproducible trusty ubuntu ** Description changed: My NVIDIA GeForce 6200 has 3 outputs: DVI, VGA, TV-out. In ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10 nouveau driver detects output connection status incorrectly. If I connect DVI cable only, nouveau thinks than both VGA and TV-out connected. If I connect VGA cable only, it thinks DVI and TV-out connected. Wrong connection status leads to wrong resolution selection. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1258374] [NEW] [NV44A] GeForce 6200 output status inverted
Public bug reported: My NVIDIA GeForce 6200 has 3 outputs: DVI, VGA, TV-out. Monitor connected to DVI/VGA reports preferred resolution 1600x1200, but Xorg ignores it because it thinks monitor is not connected. Instead it uses TV-out settings with 1024x768 resolution. The only workarround I've found is to append video=1600x1200 to kernel command line. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: kern.log-dvi-nouveau https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258374/+attachment/3924062/+files/kern.log-dvi-nouveau -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258374 Title: [NV44A] GeForce 6200 output status inverted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1258374/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071564] [NEW] ATI video driver circles round login screen
Public bug reported: As suggested by SteVe Cook (yorvyk) in this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- sis/+bug/1034812 (SiS video driver circles round login screen), I have opened a new bug. As stated in that bug: Login screen just flicks on screen then screen goes blank before login screen flickers back on and of for ever more. The same behavior is happening with an integrated ATI Rage Pro (AGP 2X and 4M memory) graphic card in a Dell OptiPlex GX1 using Lubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal. After upgrading from 12.04, it doesn't enter in the X system, and the system tries to change to the graphic mode unsuccessfully in a loop indefinitely. Previous this upgrade the system was working fine. I don't attach the xorg.log because it wasn't present in the system and this computer doesn't make use of xorg.conf. However I've attached the dmesg and lspci. It is using the latest Lubuntu kernel. I appreciate any help given in this subject and thank you for the time and effort solving this issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366755] Re: [PPC] Wrong colours on big-endian machine
Software rendering was fixed in mesa 7.6.1. Karmic has mesa 7.6.0. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444139] Re: (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (ATI R200 chipset)
Thank you bjaglin! your solution was perfect for me! Since I have upgraded this machine to Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 (I'm using a R100 ATI videocard), it always showed I got direct rendering with glxinfo, however I had no desktop effects and couldn't run any 3D applications. After read some tutorials and launchpad bugs I set AGPSize to 32 and the desktop effects began to work, but no 3D applications (they hung up or crashed). I tried everything out there, even to compile drivers and nothing worked. But when I downgraded Mesa to 7.5.1 as you suggested (thank for provide the .deb link, it is very useful indeed!), everything got better. Still games like Open Arena run a bit slower than it used to be in Jaunty but now the 3D apps don't crash anymore, the desktop effects are still there nicely, and more important, I can use again Blender. I think there are problems related with performance in the newer mesa version in Karmic. Nevertheless this work around works flawlessly until the maintainers come up with a definitely solution to this problem. Thank you so much again bjaglin! -- (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (ATI R200 chipset) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444139 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441272] Re: [i855] When trying to resume from suspend mode, the backlight does not turn on. I can see that the desktop is alive looking closer. Only rebooting brings back my backl
I have the same problem on my ThinkPad X40 (same chipset as reported in this bug), it's reproducible by either a suspend/resume cycle or by leaving the laptop idle long enough to where the backlight is turned off. I can confirm that this is a regression introduced by 9.10, this was working correctly in 9.04. -- [i855] When trying to resume from suspend mode, the backlight does not turn on.
