[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
Just a suggestion: I'm now going to uncheck 'xorg-edgers' in Synaptic after successfully installing Nvidia 304.37. This way I will avoid possible problems with future updates from this 'bleeding edge' repo. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I think we finally have this solved! I installed Nvidia driver 304.37 using this: http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu not wanting to take a chance on a manual install with my kernel upgrade. (3.4) Kudos to the Nvidia team for staying with this. I spent maybe 1 1/2 hours watching Youtube videos-mostly from the Slingshot Channel which I enjoy greatly and are available in full (1080) HD. No logouts-no problems so far. Details @ post #60. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
@martin: Thank you! Even though my problem wasn't the same as yours, it seems to be working fine for me. I had been experiencing crashes every time I tried to watch a Youtube in 'HD mode'. The video would play for maybe 1 or 2 minutes then I would usually get a complete lockdown-no keyboard or mouse response. Sometimes I could reboot using 'reisub', but only if I attempted this immediately.I just finished watching about 15 mins. of the 'Slingshot Channel' without any problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I@disorder: I don't think you share what most of us are experiencing. This must be related by something in the Nvidia drivers since many of us are affected simply by watching videos; not necessarily streaming or downloading. If I don't use accelerated graphics or '3 d' mode or if I use the Nouveau driver I never have this problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Looks like we finally got a fix. I just installed Nvidia driver 302.17, watched a 55 min. Hulu video using Unity 3d without crashing. Prior version 302.11 worked fine in 2d mode only, crashed to login in 3d. I also observed that temp didn't rise while watching movie. Nvidia settings showed 60-61c. with ambient 29.5c. I would like to be added as a subscriber to this bug. This finally lists people with the same type crashes/logouts I have been getting ever since I installed 12.04-x86_amd64. I also receive the same error messages. I can watch videos in 2d mode without problems-when I switch to 3d I start getting random restarts. I have tried Nvidia drivers 295.40, 295.49, 295.53, 302.07, finally 302.11. @reason just to let yu know the 30*.** drivers are in the repos. (ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa). Just last night I upgraded to Ubuntu mainstream kernel v. 3.4. No problems-with the difference that now I can watch a video for 30-45 minutes without crashing instead of 2-5 mins.
