[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1782739] [NEW] Boot to Black
Public bug reported: When I boot my new Ubuntu 18.04LTS install on my ASUS flipbook I see the splash screen as expected. The boot continues and it reaches the point where you would expect to see the login screen. I see what appears to be a non-backlighted blank black screen. If I wait until all hard drive activity ceases and then type in my password and press enter the login completes and I am presented a normal Ubuntu desktop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] it might be interesting...
OK, I might have gotten some interesting data. First, I should explain. I decided gain (after a couple years) to switch to fglrx and see how it works. Last time it was also very buggy but in more annoying way... So I installed fglrx and it... didn't giving me configure errors with my custom kernels , I did not want to bother any further. So I decided to switch the sides again :) and removed it. I tried to see how suspend-resume would work (DRI and 3D was on). So it did not, however, instead of usual blank unresponsive to SysRq keys monitor I had a dump and REISUB restarted the machine. Oops I did it again, and got nothing gain... :) In the usual way all resume attempts were numb, no syslog info was left. The corresponding kernel.log (the section between the sleep and a waking attempt) is attached below. I hope that this would be helpful for more knowledgeable people than me. -- ** Attachment added: kernel_dump https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340/+attachment/2076245/+files/kernel_dump -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340 Title: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593463] Re: [i945g] xsession crash and consecutive loss of dri/drm capability on i915
I recently built 2.6.37-rc3 from the kernel.org with Mike Galbraith's patch being applied to it. It looks stable so far. Besides seeming keyboard lock-ups shortly after getting to the gdm login window. The lock-up lasted for a few seconds and did not come back. The bug was still present for 2.6.35.4, which I tested for quite a while and the issues in question occurred only once. The following work-around is shaping up: 1) gnome-power-manager should be turned off and xset dpms 300 300 300 setting should be used for the Xsession instead. 2) if a buggy application (such as npviewer, the adobe flash player wrapper) uses i915, one should issue the command xset dpms 0 0 0 to disable display sleep. The only occasion when dri/drm was dropped by the kernel was on 2.6.35.4 when the infamous Adobe flashplayer played a video. Apparently flasplayer does not care about the display sleep option. It also uses way too much CPU time. As far as 2.6.37-rc3 is concerned, it might've been improved. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593463] bug still persists
It seems that this bug still persists for me. I got an X-server hiccup once again and lost an X for this boot session. So I have to compose this from the emacs-nox. uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 19 01:38:40 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux I am pretty sure that I disabled the power manager. When I had this crash last time on a recent maverick kernel (happened only once for me) I saw the power-manager enabled somehow. With maverick kernels I tended to have longer uptaime (10-15 days) uptime : 22:42:08 up 3 days, 12:52, 2 users, load average: 0.19, 0.33, 0.69 This time I was running stellarium which is pretty CPU intensive. It is a pretty annoying bug suffered by most i915 based chips. Does anyone know if there is any light in the end of the tunnel? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593239] Re: [855gm] black screen at logon screen on 1st boot after install
sudo only ever asks for your password. When the prompt says '[sudo] password for ubuser:', it wants the password for the user ubuser. So, in a terminal, you entered 'echo options i915 modeset=1 | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf' (without the quotes, of course), entered your password at the sudo password prompt and it refused it, prompting you again? I've never seen it refuse a correct password. I'd suggest checking your NumLock and CapsLock to ensure that they are the way you expect them when typing in your password (normally NumLock on and CapsLock off). A quick test is in a terminal type 'sudo echo password-worked' (you may substitute password-worked for any string you like) and it should say password-worked then return you to the normal command prompt. -- [855gm] black screen at logon screen on 1st boot after install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/593239 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)
Hi, ran into a similar problem: My desktop display froze and both keyboard and mouse did not work. I haven't checked if my webserver was running/available, since I prematurely powered off the pc. My issue seems to be a little different from those reported though. The freeze has never occurred before since my upgrade to Lucid more than a week ago. The kernel uname -a: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 19:31:57 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux has been run for about a couple days before it happened. I will continue using this very kernel (I do not want to try the ppa fix yet, since this intel machine used to be very effective before). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576125] a question about the memory usage
Hi everyone. As far as the memory footprint comparison between 9.10 and 10.04, Lucid is more bloated. I noticed it before, when without dri some desktop stuff is slower. By looking at my old screenshots I can see that the memory gnome-monitor applet is more filled now than it used to be before with some pdf files with graphics and more tabs opened on firefox. Unfortuanately, I do not keep top screenshots. So far Xorg figure seems reasonable so far. I also use amarok with a huge music collection. Amarok is known to be particularly memory hungry, however, it has not been a problem before. I will try figure out the culprit by killing one program after another. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576125] Re: [RC410] Radeon X200m poor graphics performance with KMS+DRI
I should confirm this too. As a matter of fact, even when kms is disabled, the video is somewhat slower than it used to be on koala. For instance, switching windows is rather sluggish. This last one is probably related to the the poor memory management. Well, this issue is nothing compared to the main issue - regular system freezes. Is it a different bug? Here's what I see in the logs when dri/kms is on: May 4 00:14:38 mykernel kernel: [31854.648052] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id May 4 00:20:24 mykernel kernel: [32200.377989] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id May 4 00:26:40 mykernel kernel: [32576.900863] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id May 4 00:32:35 mykernel kernel: [32932.021549] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id May 4 00:33:22 mykernel kernel: [32978.813129] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id May 4 00:34:32 mykernel kernel: [33048.605073] UDP: short packet: From 0.0.0.0:0 0/131 to 0.112.23.247:0 May 4 16:26:14 mykernel kernel: [90150.939663] UDP: short packet: From 0.0.0.0:4096 0/131 to 0.112.23.247:0 May 4 16:38:32 mykernel kernel: [90889.164643] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12! Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 305301] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI (needs KMS)
2 Karesz This is ok with me. I do keep an eye on this one, however, I don't have much faith in the slogan kms+rc410=love, in another other life maybe... Since the upgrade to 10.04 I get a lot of bugs which as a good citizen I will have to report. So a lot of excuses So, good luck and thanks! I don't know if Gene is still watching this bug, but in case he doesn't, should i file a new bug report about this? -- Please do not send me Microsoft Office/Apple iWork documents. Send OpenDocument instead! http://fsf.org/campaigns/opendocument -- [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI (needs KMS) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
