[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2045899] Re: More amdgpu crashes: pagefaults, ring timeouts and parser bugs

Waiting for 6.5.13 to actually build but on 6.6.0-14 from proposed now
which is based on 6.6.3 which probably has all the fancy patches too

Please don't modify that in /etc/grub.d, set GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=5
in the /etc/default/grub file (or in an /etc/default/grub.d snippet).
/etc/grub.d file changes are last resort, that file changes and
incorporating those changes with your own ones will be annoying.

2020-08-13 Thread Julian Andres Klode
The proposed debdiff is wrong, it reverts a patch in the patch series by
adding a new patch. I think we can probably remove the vt-handoff.patch
from the patch series for groovy without much checking, but any SRU will
need to consult with flavours to check if they need the handoff.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1828671] Re: Xephyr Input is broken

2020-05-06 Thread Julian Rendell
>From memory, there were bugs reported, but it seems it's:

- almost abandoned
- breaking change is by design; I don't think Xorg wants to support this kind
of configuration. Again, from memory, it's been changed so that it can only
work with xevents from the "master" XServer.

Sad, but I think this avenue (multiseat in general) is pretty much
abandonware.

It was amazing to see an i7 with 3 GPUs drive 14 instances of Minecraft
;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1828671] Re: Xephyr Input is broken

2020-05-06 Thread Julian Rendell
Absolutely.

I believe it's an issue in upstream; I did spend a little time trying to
investigate/recompile/figure out which set of changes removed/broke this
functionality, but ran out of time.

At present to make multi-seat work I have to manually install and pin
the old version of Xephyr.

It's a shame as multi-seat works incredibly well (once set up.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1861756] Re: upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 issues due to colord / libsane issue

2020-02-05 Thread Julian Andres Klode
There were two issues:

(1) mesa in focal has lower version than in releases, newer one stuck in
proposed

(2) ubuntu-release-upgrader did not check that the solution it picked at
the end (after re-marking meta packages for upgrades) was actually
valid. It assumed that if mark_upgrade() failed, the operation was a no-
change, when it actually led to broken packages.

(2) is fixed, (1) should be fixed soon.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1828671] [NEW] Xephyr Input is broken

2019-05-11 Thread Julian Rendell
Public bug reported:

I'm using Xephyr for a multiseat system (4 GPUs -> up to 12 screens;
using VirtualGL for 3D acceleration.)

The eventual command line that LightDM ends up running is:

Xephyr -fullscreen :0 -seat seat5 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0
-nolisten tcp

In 18.04 and earlier this works great.

Important note: There is a strong chance my system had the version of
Xephyr from the Multiseat PPA with Evdev support patches
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
multiseat/+archive/ubuntu/xephyr/+packages).

In 19.04 I get:

root@redstone-server:~# DISPLAY=:200.1 Xephyr -fullscreen -seat seat6 :20

The display is correct, but no user input (mouse or keyboard) works.

It looks like Xephyr can't find any input drivers. I also tried
specifying drivers (eg Evdev, libinput, keyboard, mouse, ...) Nothing
worked.

Extracting the version of Xephyr from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
multiseat/+archive/ubuntu/xephyr/+packages runs correctly.

I think this bug should be closed- the options in the patch have been
removed from the current (upstream) sources. Glancing through the code
and commit history, it looks like Evdev has been removed from Xorg
server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1746163]

2018-06-21 Thread Tempel-julian
Confirmed, an Xorg game looks fluid here in fullscreen (unfortunately
not fullscreen mode of Firefox). Thank you, so I suppose it's up to the
DE devs then.

Is it planned or possible to turn vsync entirely off for Xorg fullscreen
applications like games to e.g. have lowest input latency? I suppose
doing unwanted vsync could also interfere with FreeSync once it's there
in free driver stack one day.

without any positive result:

sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/'

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1766940] [NEW] Wifi interface does often not show up after reboot

2018-04-25 Thread Julian Bieringer-Hinterbuchinger
Public bug reported:

Since i got a new laptop (ThinkPad L580) and installed Kubuntu 16.04.4
LTS with kernel 4.13.0-38-generic, i sometimes had to reboot so that the
wifi interface showed up. Once it showed up it worked continuously for
hours without an issue. When the update came to kernel
4.13.0-39-generic, it got worse. Now i have to reboot at least 5 times
until my wifi interface shows up. Once it shows up it works continuously
like on the previous kernel for the whole session but on next reboot the
interface is missing again. It seems random whether the interface is
loaded (or found) when booting. Don't know if this is an kernel issue
but since it got lot worse right after the latest kernel update i assume
so. Wired connections are working well without any issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1724424] [NEW] Problem with video after suspending the machine and wake it up

2017-10-17 Thread Julian A. Viola
Public bug reported:

The bug I found is this, I suspend the machine, and when I wake it up,
the display doesn't work correctly or doesn't display the video or
things correctly. It looks like if I hadn't the display driver in that
moment. It looks like with a wrong resolution, a lower resolution,
things looks bigger... It happens all the times when I wake it up with
the mouse. I've just wake it up with the keyboard and didn't happen, but
it happens almost all the times... All the times when I did wake it up
with the mouse.

The display gets fixed after entering to the Display configurations or
Appearance, by right-clicking on the desktop and entering to Change
Wallpaper and it looks good after that, but displays some things wrong
sometimes. But when entering to Appearance, the displays goes black and
then it looks good.

I don't know if the problem is with xorg, or with the display driver or
related to another package.

My OS is Ubuntu 16.04.03, my graphics card is a NVIDIA GT610 and I am
using the proprietary driver of NVIDIA.

Maybe in the picture attached you cannot see well the problem. I wanted
to attached two images, but I can't.

Let me know, if you need more information or if I can help with
something.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 287215] Re: xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged

One last comment. For those not using a standard DE, most solutions
don't work well, but running `X` with the `-arinterval` and `-ardelay`
flags will solve the repeat issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 287215] Re: xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged

2017-08-20 Thread Julian Andrews
I've been doing a little more investigating. I'm pretty sure this issue
is this:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25262

So, if I understand this correctly, this won't/can't be fixed in X and
has to be handled by your desktop environment.

It does seem to me that there probably is a way to set the default
rates/keymaps. If anyone knows what the canonical way to do that is, I'd
love to know!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 287215] Re: xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged

2017-08-20 Thread Julian Andrews
I'm not running Ubuntu anymore, but I can confirm that this is a problem
in Debian Stretch (and was an issue in Debian Jessie). I see similar
behavior for keyboard rates set via `xset r rate`. Plugging in the USB
keyboard resets the keyboard settings. Suspending while a USB keyboard
is plugged in also resets the keyboard settings, though suspending
without a USB keyboard attached doesn't. I suspect that whatever logic
executes on plugging in the keyboard is also run on resume.

For anyone looking for a workaround for mapping caps lock to escape,
setting `XKBOPTIONS="caps:escape"` in `/etc/default/keyboard` (and
rebooting) will do that reliably. That should work for anything that can
be configured via `XKBOPTIONS`. As for the rate issue, I don't yet have
a good workaround. I suspect a udev rule might do what I need, but
that's also clearly a hack, so it would be nice to have a fix for this.

2015-03-28 Thread Julian
@chili-g I wanted to point out that this bug also affects the latest 3.19.0-10
kernel which comes with vivid.
A was also unclear about the terminology and i found out that it is always
assumed that a bug affects the latest version of ubuntu. Because of that i
reverted my change ;)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2015-01-19 Thread Julian Kalinowski
Is the suggested patch the same that is included in this ppa?

I'm using the above ppa, and it works fine, however, there is no
synclient, which makes on-the-fly reconfiguration difficult.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966619] Re: Provide emulated three-touch gesture support for two-touch trackpads

2014-12-26 Thread Julian Kalinowski
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440s, which has a ClickPad.
It should support at least 3 finger touches:

xinput --list-props 12 | grep Capabilities
Synaptics Capabilities (317): 1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1

but geistest and grail-test tell me:

geis: attr device touches = 2
grail: Maximum touches: 2

I disabled the 2 and 3 finger handling in synaptics and then, touchegg
recognizes 2 finger gestures.
But I'm not able to use 3 or more finger gestures :(
I'm using KDE, but output and behaviour is the same in fluxbox.

I'm not sure if this device is a real Multi-touch device or not, so
maybe it's a different bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1099115] Re: Can't change brightness while screen is locked

2014-04-16 Thread Julian
I'm affected too. Basically I'm trying to use physical volume knob of external
USB DAC to manipulate the volume of the sound.
But since the screen is locked the knob is not working.. till I unlock the
screen.

The things become even more frustrating when I use the Power settings
and set Do nothing option when you close the lid of the laptop.
However when I close the lid what's happen is lock the screen (it turns
it off, which is OK) but it also disables the external control.

It would be great if sound control is allowed while the screen is locked
and also some of the FN+key controls.

P.S. Let me know if there is known workaround (like adding some udev
rule, permission or configuration).

drm/i915: Adding more reserved PCI IDs for Haswell.

commit 1c98b4871cca4b7ce07e19f92f934d47cf7210b0 upstream.

At DDX commit Chris mentioned the tendency we have of finding out more
PCI IDs only when users report. So Let's add all new reserved Haswell IDs.

This patch also fix GT3 names. I'no not sending in separated patche because
names are only in few comments and not in variable names.

Also landed in raring-proposed (3.8.0-26.38).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system

2013-05-15 Thread Julian Neil
I still have this problem with 3.8.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 1
16:35:23 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
 with intel graphics HD4000.

When I first boot, changing brightness is fine. But after a period of
time, it will hang if I adjust the brightness.

Similarly, when I first boot I can logout and power down my laptop
without issues, but after a time, if I attempt to log out or shutdown it
hangs. I suspect these hangs are both related.

Adding 'acpi_backlight=vendor' to the kernel parameters didn't make much
of a difference for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084452] Re: i915 loaded instead of i810 - broken openGL

2013-05-08 Thread Julian Wiedmann
Trying to load i810 manualy results in
 sudo modprobe i810
 FATAL: Error inserting i810
 (/lib/modules/3.5.0-19-generic/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i810/i810.ko): Invalid
 argument

The naming might be confusing, but i915.ko *is* the correct kernel
driver for your graphics chip. And i915_dri.so is the right OpenGL
driver.

libGL error: failed to load driver: i915

This is the problem you need to investigate.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171314] [NEW] Window stacking order messed up for dialogs/overlays

2013-04-22 Thread Julian Edwards
Public bug reported:

I am seeing this bug where right click dialogs, menus, notifications etc
are popping up behind other windows. See the screenshot as an example.

It mostly doesn't happen until I start Amarok, which is a QT app, but
that doesn't always make it happen either.

I was using fglrx-updates from official repo, version 2:9.010-0ubuntu5

Can you tell me form where can I download the version (12..102) that

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077347] [NEW] Flash player videos have blue tint

2012-11-10 Thread Julian Klein
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu 12.04 all flash player videos (e.g. Youtube) have a
blue tint.
The problem appears in both Seamonkey and Firefox Browser. Flash player is
installed in version 11.2.202.251ubuntu0.12.04.1. All other video playing (VLC,
Youtube with HTML5 directly in the browser...) works fine.

I've tried various suggestions like mentioned in
(http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/flashplayer-hat-nen-
blaustich/#post-4221147) but they cause very serious instability of the
flash plugin. It crashes nearly every time I open a web site containing
flash.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073626] [NEW] Constant false gpu hang system alerts

2012-10-31 Thread Julian Urteaga
Public bug reported:

My system:

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit
My system is a Macbook4.1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz / 2GB RAM / GMA X3100 with
144MB shared memory / Intel HDA audio.
The image I used for installing the system is Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit (AMD64) + MAC.

The issue:

Every time I log onto my session, a system program error dialog is
displayed. (I'll try to translate as possible since my system is running
in Spanish)

· There's is a system program problem detected. Do you want to inform
this now?

I pick Yes, and then I've got to enter my password. Then, another
dialog appears displaying the following message:

· We're sorry. Ubuntu 12.10 has experienced an internal error. If you continue
to have problems, try to restart the system.
[marked checkbox] Send a bug report to help solve this issue.

[*] Picking details it shows a long list of components wich start with
the lines Executable path | /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-
intel.py

Before I even pick the continue button, another system dialog pops up
onscreen displaying the following message:

· Apport has detected a possible GPU hang. Did your system recently
lock up and/or require a hard reboot?

Since neither of the two were needed, I pick No. Then, the system pop
up another dialog:

· Your display manager log files may help developers diagnose the bug,
but may contain sensitive information such as your hostname. Do you
want to include these logs in your bug report?

I pick Yes. In the next Apport dialogue Would you be willing to do
additional debugging work?, I pick Yes.

Several minutes later, nothing happens yet. No other system dialogued
showed up. I never did any debugging work as I choose to do.

Meanwhile, the dialogue that displays the details of the internal error
(in the line marked with [*] on this report), now has completed the
list. It took more than two minutes to do. I mark the checkbox for Send
a bug report to help solve this issue, and then I pick Continue.

Nothing else ever happened. I don't even know if the bug was reported.

This issue will happen again some time later, and so on, being really
annoying.

After booting to gdm, there are a few flashing underline style cursors
flashing in various places on the screen. It looks like a VT is

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017394] [NEW] Display completely locks up at random

2012-06-25 Thread Julian Edwards
Public bug reported:

Apparently at random my screen will just lock up (although sometimes the
mouse pointer will still move). It is exacerbated by using Google
Hangouts and Skype but is not limited to using them.

The Xorg logs shows a load of errors and a stack trace.

I can ssh into the box when this happens and see that the Xorg process
is using 100% of a CPU core. This bug report is generated by sshing in
to get the relevant data.
