[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1769299] [NEW] universal access zoom unusable
Public bug reported: Filed by mark on behalf of low vision user Ken. Ken is able to read 56 point type without magnification at normal reading distance and can barely read the universal access "large text" from a distance of about 2.5 inches from a 26inch monitor at 1360x768. So he really needs magnification and a lot more than the 2x default I used here for testing. We do not live in the same town so providing additional details would be slow. Turned on zoom from the universal access button on top panel. Default settings were used including Zoom = 2.0, screen part = full Several areas are corrupted. These zoom and scroll separately from the rest of the screen and in a way that severely impairs use as portions may not ever be visible. Portions of these subwindows cannot be used because you have to move the mouse off them to be able see them so you can either see or click but not both. These areas are: - The top panel - The left panel (launcher) (intermittently) - pull down menus, particularly the universal access pull down from the top panel Also, the zoom randomly every couple seconds. jumps to a different position without the user's consent. This appeared to be because text was printed by a program running in the terminal window (long apt-get install) but continued to happen even when that window was minimized and even when that program stopped printing. These problems persisted with all the other zoom modes. One mode, however, created new bugs. With "magnifier extends outside of screen", you lose the ability to see the top and left panels at all; you can pan over where they would be but they are not drawn. Can't open the pulldown menu since there is no icon, so who knows how it would be rendered. These bugs made it very difficult to get screenshots, especially with the defective screenshot program gnome-screenshot which ships with system. Also, the bug-reporting program did not permitted attaching additional screenshots once spectacle was installed. Ubuntu 18.04, fresh install, only a few added packages (ham radio related, chrome). Not using wayland, though a wayland session runs concurrently with X11 even though no one has logged in with wayland. Another problem in making the bug report is the irresponsible practice of failing to identify the software being used. The accessability man in circle menu does not have a heading to tell you what program is run for the accessability menu or any of the functions thus invoked.Nor does the settings. And there is no tooltip, popup, or about menu item to convey this information to the user. And running a diff on ps doesn't show any new processes started when zoom is turned on. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1751653] [NEW] Minecraft makes Ubuntu GNOME extremely slow
Public bug reported: Hi! I've had Ubuntu 16 with Unity on my children's older computer and Minecraft (downloaded and installed from Software Center) worked just fine. I then did a clean install to Ubuntu 17 with GNOME and downloaded and installed Minecraft in the same way, but when the final Minecraft playwindow pops up Ubuntu is really slow and hardly respond. After I installed Unity and run it instead of GNOME, everything worked great again. Maybe Java OpenJDK doesn't work well with GNOME? Is this something you can fix? I would prefer to run the preinstalled GNOME instead of Unity, especially since GNOME is the choice for Ubuntu from now on, and I'm planning on upgrading to the upcoming version 18 of Ubuntu. Thank you for a nice operating system otherwise. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316873] Re: Left mouse button stops working
I am having this problem on a desktop machine. I have to click three times in a row to register a mouse click. Xubuntu fully upgraded. I have a genuine Microsoft mouse so that it is fairly generic. I am using an NVidia graphics card. xdiagnose shows no errors I am finding that confirmations in any program are taking 3 clicks to be recognised. It appears to be better if you dramatically move the mouse between clicks. I have tried evolution, firefox, flash plugin, menus, selecting program swap at the top of the screen. They all have a similar issue. I have also found that switching programs with Alt Tab will generally recover the situation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316873 Title: Left mouse button stops working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1316873/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1087763] Re: VGA is blank/black on P4M900
I can confirm this problem with P4M900 which is built in on the Gigabyte GA-VM900M. Maybe about a year ago I installed 12.04 LTS (may have been 12.04-1 or 12.04-2) and it worked fine with this video card. This time I used the updated 12.04-4 and it couldn't start X. I'm going to try installing 12.04-4 but reverting to an older version of xserver-xorg- video-openchrome from the CLI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1087763 Title: VGA is blank/black on P4M900 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openchrome/+bug/1087763/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1271166] [NEW] Gómez Peer under Wine appears on the lock screen
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: When running the Gómez Peer under Wine (including upstream), the application is still visible on top of the lock screen. Nothing running should be visible on top of the lock screen and this is a security concern. To work around this I run Wine with WINEDLLOVERRIDES=wined3d= Wine can be blamed for this, but X (or whatever provides the lock screen - Gnome?) shouldn't allow applications to break through the lock screen. Attached photo shows part of the application where it has updated its GUI. On a full update the full GUI is visible. I installed fglrx-updates which, for some reason, has had this broken version backported to Precise's fglrx-updates, but you would expect that from fglrx-updates I guess. fglrx itself has problems and I described my workaround to that at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1114520 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058040 Title: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1058040/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1114520] [NEW] Graphical Wine applications fail to load
Public bug reported: Graphical applications that run under Wine, such as the SlingPlayer 1.5 will fail to load with the fglrx package installed. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=versioniId=11492 Using fglrx-updates used to allow everything to run correctly, and with a significant improvement in native graphics quality and speed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1047610] [NEW] Xorg freeze when logging out user
Public bug reported: I use two accounts on my computer. 1000 - My main, useful account. 1001 - For testing without messing up my settings on 1000. I always log in 1000 first and log in a second time with 1001. When I first start the computer I can log in and out multiple times without any problems (I've tried). After using the computer for an amount of time it starts getting a bit slow and clunky, partly thanks to the amount of stuff that gets pushed to swap, and partly thanks to another bug which means I have to start Unity over and over. To try and reduce the memory footprint I log UID 1000 out. Wonderfully this is not successful and I end up staring at the background image for UID 1000's profile and nothing else. The mouse and the keyboard become completely useless. Even the NUM LOCK light cannot be switched off. CTRL+ALT+Backspace and CTRL+ALT+DEL do nothing, but that's because the keyboard does nothing. The only solution is SSH in from my phone and force a reboot (or a halt when I get sick of it). I cannot see anything in the logs about a crash but then I don't know where I should be looking or what I should be looking for. This didn't happen in Natty but it's been a while since I used UID 1001, and I cannot remember the last time I logged out UID 1000 while using it. I definitely cannot pinpoint when this started to occur. Public bug reported: This is related to bug #993427 however the xorg edgers fails to install properly without the patches and it's possible to recover from the official installer if you manually add the patches to the system. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999910] Re: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard)
I've been having similar problems. I'm using an i5-3570K IB with HD 4000 on a Gygabyte Z77X-UD3H motherboard. I started with the 64 bit install fom ubuntu.org and had very frequent freezes. I switched to the recommended 32 bit and it's decreased significantly, but I still have freezes. If audio is playing, the last 1/8 second or so repeats during the freeze. I brand-new to Linux (been a Mac user) so I'm still finding my way around, including how to properly file bug reports. The new kernel is an itriguing solution, and I'd obviously prefer to run 64 bit, but it apears to me that there are also issues under 32 bit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/10 Title: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/10/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004456] [NEW] Screen Controls are Crazy since a recent UpGrade, so a working DeskTop is now very difficult to achieve.
Public bug reported: Numerous Bugs are making the DeskTop crazy . 1) No minimise/maximise buttons available on any Screen. This is similar to bugs : - 124038 - 198392 - 188084 but not exactly the same. From this, for example, the Downloads display box cannot be removed so it covers the Start button permanantly - annoying ! 2) Screen Grabbing by Mouse only available at the location where the Buttons should be. So moving the Screens around only possible once I discovered this. Normally I can grab a screen anywhere in the top bar. 3) In Firefox, the PullDown Menus DO NOT work. The Shortcuts still work, fortunately. The PullDown Menu's open, but do not stay open for selection. Once the Mouse moves off them they disappear again. So cannot select any commands, in Firefox. In Software Center, for example, these still work. So this area of the Bug(s) is package specific. 4) Screens don't stack properly. When clicking on a top bar of a Screen it is NOT bought to the Top. So I have to move screens around by mouse grabbing (see 2) above) so I can work on them. * Soiund Bad ?? - Yes it is !! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004456] Re: Screen Controls are Crazy since a recent UpGrade, so a working DeskTop is now very difficult to achieve.
FURTHER NOTES 1) A clue about these Bugs is that UpGrades tend to reset Settings, in a big way. 2) For example, I went into Settings-DeskTop-Menus and turned off the : Windows-List-Menus option, by deselecting it. Now I can mouse-click-grab the screens right along the top bar. So point 2) in my original Bug Report is now remedied. 3) Further to point 3) in my original Bug Report, Pull-Down Munus don't work within Firefox windows, either : This includes Cut Paste actions. For example, in this Bug Report Firefox screen I cannot Cut Paste by mouse-highlighting and rightclicking, as is usual.
