[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236922] Re: Xorg crashes with SIGABRT in pixman_blt() after using Synapse for a while
Hi Ari. I've been using Cinnamon since it works. But I've also updated my release since this bug, so now I have all new new drivers, X and X libs, and a newer version of Synapse. I don't even know if the bug still exists with the lighter WMs, as I haven't gone back to to try it again. I'll load up openbox when I get a chance to do it, and see if the bug is still there. If not then I'm switching back. Cheers! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236922] Re: Xorg crashes with SIGABRT in pixman_blt() after using Synapse for a while
Hey Brian, thanks for your comment. It's been a while since I've reported this bug. Luckily I've been able to resolve it by switching over to the open- source radeon drivers. Haven't had a crash of this sort (or any X.org crash for that matter) for almost a year now! You said that switching graphics drivers didn't work for you, but the open-source radeon drivers have come a long way over the past couple of years. If you are still experiencing this issue on your WM of choice and holding out on Cinnamon, I'd recommend giving the FOSS drivers another try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server-lts-raring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236922 Title: Xorg crashes with SIGABRT in pixman_blt() after using Synapse for a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libpixman/+bug/1236922/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236922] Re: Xorg crashes with SIGABRT in pixman_blt() after using Synapse for a while
While clearly a bug in the X server or the pixman library, I was able to get around it by changing my window manager. It seems that by using a different window manager it avoids the critical path. In any case, I had this bug consistently as you describe it. Sometimes when I press the down arrow to open the documents list, the X server would crash. Not at first, and not always, but usually after running some time. I could usually get lucky and not crash for the first little while. I was using the openbox window manager, but I also tried fluxbox and Gnome 2. They all had the same problem. I tried switching the video drivers, it did not help. Finally, I switched to the mint cinnamon window manager and it's been working for months for me now. Even though I would prefer not to use cinnamon, it's better than a crashing server. So my suggestion would be to try a new window manager, you might work around it until this is fixed and you can get back to your favorite WM. Because the crashes seem to be caused by libpixman here's some more information on the revision installed on my system: $policy libpixman-1-0 libpixman-1-0: Installed: 0.24.4-1 Candidate: 0.24.4-1 I am getting weekly crashes now and I sincerely hope there's a way I can fix this without having to abandon Synapse. ** Information type changed from Private to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server-lts-raring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236922 Title: Xorg crashes with SIGABRT in pixman_blt() after using Synapse for a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libpixman/+bug/1236922/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
