[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1265065] Re: Desktop freeze while drag-maximizing window
I have what I assume is the same problem. This only happens on 2 of my 3 machines that run Ubuntu 13.10. Both of these use the Nvidia proprientary driver. The one is a GTX 560 while the other is a GTX610M. I've attached a picture of what it looks like when it freezes. The mouse pointer sill moves but there is no response to input. I can use ctrl- alt-f1 to switch to a terminal though and restarting lightdm restores my computer to a working state. ** Attachment added: IMG_20140204_133427.jpg https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1265065/+attachment/3969633/+files/IMG_20140204_133427.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1265065 Title: Desktop freeze while drag-maximizing window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1265065/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1265065] Re: Desktop freeze while drag-maximizing window
I am afraid I cannot install testing version of Ubuntu to my main system, since some other programs might not work with it and I should use it intensively quite long (over a week). If you are sure the cause of the problem is xorg and Ubuntu 14.04 will use Mir, probably it is not wise to waste time to fixing such a rare bug on xorg. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1265065 Title: Desktop freeze while drag-maximizing window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1265065/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I confirm this problem on the following system: - Thinkpad T61 - NVidia Quadro NVS 140M/PCIe/SSE2 - proprietary drivers 'nvidia-319-updates' - up-to-date BIOS It seems to have appeared in saucy, I cannot remember this happening in raring. Per Vapp, as per your https://launchpadlibrarian.net/161110166/BootDmesg.txt : [0.111330] ACPI BIOS Warning (bug): Incorrect checksum in table [TAMG] - 0x84, should be 0x83 (20130517/tbprint-204) As well, as per http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3852#bios an update is available for your BIOS (F13). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and just provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.
