[Unattended] Re : Re : Re : Re : Re : Partitionning Problem with (?) SATA AHCI
Thx Matt for replying. As I wrote earlier i have for options in the Bios for Sata : - Raid Autodetect / AHCI : Raid if signed drives, otherwise AHCI - Raid Autodetect / ATA : Raid if signed drives, otherwise ATA - Raid On = SATA is configured for Raid on every boot - Legacy = this mode provides for compatibility with some older operating systems that do not support native resources assigned to the drive controller. I've tested the 4 options without success. I will try again with legacy and manual partitionning (using same parted command).I'll tell you. [Unattended] unattend 4.7
Hello, I would like to test the Vm. It would be nice if I could have the password to extract of the Zip files. OK. So I made the test. It does not work with theses command manually. Same command on another PC is ok. partition_cmds="parted /dev/dsk mklabel msdos;parted /dev/dsk mkpartfsprimary fat32 0 4000;parted -- /dev/dsk mkpart extended 30720 -0;parted-- /dev/dsk mkpartfs logical fat32 30720 -0;sleep 2;parted /dev/dsk set1 boot on;" You can see photos here : http://sites.google.com/a/hurel.info/public/Unattended---Sata---Parted (List of commands, then photo showing that on Optiplex 755 the Logical Partition is not recognize as Fat32 (but Unknown), photo showing that Logical Partition is recognize as fat32 on Optiplex GX280 ) I had the same warning about deprecated SCSI ioctl on both. I absolutely don't know how to make it work on Optiplex 755. Could the boot disk missing drivers ? SATA ? or anything ? SATA AHCI ah ok, if you can get it to work manually, can you provide the commands used to make it work? I'll look at the translation stuff then to see where it might go wrong (if what u want to do is possible of course :) ) Michael On Thu, Mar 13, 2008 at 12:03 AM, Ziad O'Hanlon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Reading carefully your question : >>"2. does it work when you manually partition the disk using the above parted >>commands?" No...in fact it work when i partition with Gparted (booting from a CD). I will try to make it manually. So no need to run a external script manually, its fully automagical. (As a sidenote: I do not use dosemu any more as it chokes on some driver files that have long filenames.) > > > I just have to find the time to update the patches.. > > Same here. I hope to find some time on the easter break. I will see what can get done tonight and tomorrow, probably just cheating a bit to get linuxboot compiled on Debian Lenny, and skipping parted for now. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. But none of them works for me. > Any one knows what the problem is? Or is it simply that my machine > it too old and no longer supported? Whats happen is that the newer kernels is using the libata drivers. So the kernel in 4.7 see the disks the same way as it sees sata disks. Because of that the logic in install.pl can not correct the disk geometry via the old PATA way thru the kernel. 4.6 fixed disk geometry on these machines, but 4.7 can no longer do that. All Machines that does not report 255 heads is affected (printed to the screen at unattended linuxboot) So its not just older Intelbased PATA machines, but also all thinkpads models and some HP laptops. I just write the disk geometry into the partition to fix this. A bit crude, but effective. A test ISO is posted here: http://www.source-exchange.de/unattended/nils/ Changes from stock CVS are: Disk geometry fixes - for the "ntldr not found" problem. An alternative windows installer - dosemu alternative. (Adapted from Marios unattended-gui) An option to run a system command after the dosemu/wininstaller run. install.pl will ask if you want to run the dosemu alternative (nt5x-install) or if you want to use the old dosemu. To get rid of the question put one of these in site/unattend.txt [_meta] section: ntinstall_cmd = "" # use old dosemu ntinstall_cmd = "nt5x-install" # use dosemu alternative (nt5x-install) Disk geometry fixes: Are as default added automatically. You can turn this off by adding these (both) in site/unattend.txt [_meta] section: fix_disk_geo_heads = "" fix_disk_geo_sectors = "" Run a system command before reboot (after windows installation): /c is mounted so you can copy files to it As an example; Put in site/unattend.txt [_meta] section: post_ntinstall_cmd = "cp -r /z/os/drivers/drivers /c/drivers" Im still using this build on production, and it is stable. (we have reinstalled about 30 thinkpad T61 the last two weeks..) These changes should be rolled back into the main unattended. With a updated kernel and the latest parted we should have a really good unattended linuxboot :-D I just have to find the time to update the patches.. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Re: [Unattended] Windows Server 2003 R2 Install Issues
What kind of server are you trying to install to? It sounds to me like Unattended isn't seeing the disk, so when I tries to mount /c (your C: drive), it probably fails. However, the copy will continue - all the files just get copied to the RAMdisk I think, which obviously then get lost of the next reboot. It could also that Windows Setup isn't seeing the disk (as opposed to linux) - it all depends how far you're getting through the installation before it stops. Paul From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ropetin Again Sent: 14 March 2008 16:43 To: unattended-info@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Unattended] Windows Server 2003 R2 Install Issues I've just started experimenting with Unattended as a way to quickly deploy our Windows servers. I think I've got it /almost/ working, but I'm stuck at the actual install point. I have it booting via PXE fine, and I can go through the first portion of the install. However, when the actual Windows Server 2003 R2 install starts, it tells me it is unable to copy some files. The first one it lists is 3145pcl.gpd, and then a couple more. It will actually get to the end of the file copy, and do the reboot of the PC. Once the installer starts again, it thinks for a while, and then tells me no previous version of Windows NT can be found, so it cannot determine my machine is entitled to the upgrade. I've copied the contents of Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 VLK Disc 1 into the OS directory, and I've used the media many time for clean installs, so I know the contents are fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
