Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)
Have got sync issues with Squeezelite. Have finally got Squeezelite set up as follows: 1. On Raspberry Pi out HDMI to Onkyo receiver to speakers. - RASPBMC - Squeezelite setup as per raspberrypi org forum post, auto-starts on boot, etc. Works well!!! :-) - Squeezelite -a 400 2. On Windows 7 PC as a service out HDMI to Denon AMP to speakers. - Squeezelite -a 400 3. LMS on Synology NAS, DS109+, all music FLAC. It doesn't stay in sync. I've played around with adjusting the -a setting such as used: 80, 100, 500, 2 on both 1 and 2 above (BTW 2 was the worst). There are Synchronize settings for the Players in LMS such as: - Player Start Delay (ms) - Player Audio Delay (ms) - Network Packet Latency (ms). I tried one or two changes here for each player but no luck. There's possibly an optimal or best configuration and I wondered if anyone has come up with this already. perplu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=62397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

(I've only got a single deck which is used in conjunction with a Broskie Unbalancer tube output stage. It was the first USB DAC I ever used with the WB, and is the main DAC connected to my non-development Wandboard that I use for headphone listening while I'm "working".) If you are not a NOS zealot, which I doubt you are if you can get over the concept of a sigma-delta DAC being the nucleus of a non-oversample DAC. Try upampling via squeezelite with DDAC1794. Tick the upsample checkbox on the squeezelite web gui page, put "vM::2" into the upsample options textfield next to it, "Save and Conditionally Restart". If you have the latest firmware on the WaveIO, you'll be upsampling 44k1 (and multiples) to 352k8 and 48k (and multiples) to 384k. (176k4 and 192k if earlier WaveIO firmware revision.) You probably also want to increase alsa buffer and period size too. Put "35280:8820::" in the alsa params field on the squeezelite config page, "Save and Conditionally Restart". Give it a try. Oversample via squeezelite is much preferable to the built-in OS and DF most of the current breed of DAC chips. Oversample and DF per-se isn't evil, it's the quality of the implementation of it, something John Swenson, designer of the Community Squeeze DAC board, is a firm believer in too. They are well-spaced out, seemingly random and quite low level. So, for example, they could be confused with the picking of a guitar. But then I'm a perfectionist! If you were to run the UCA202 into an amp (rather than the headphones I'm using) I suspect that the clicks would vanish into the general background noise of household activity. Incidentally, out of pure curiosity, I fed the *optical* out from the UCA202 into the Fiio E17 to see whether the noise was appearing on the TOSlink output and, sure enough, it was. This suggests the noise (or whatever it is) is getting in on the digital side of the UCA202, rather than the analogue. Also interesting is that with a track paused I still get very very occcasional pops - like one perhaps every minute but it's not regular. So I'm pretty-well convinced this has nothing to do with buffering and everything to do with poor UCA202 noise isolation of the USB lines. Hell, it's only a £27 DAC! :D In contrast the E17 is a much better product - but also a lot more expensive. For a start there's absolutely no audible noise at all from the headphone output at high volumes. The same can't be said for the UCA202 which is very hissy. Interestingly, the Fiio E17 works perfectly with the RPi, no snap, crackle or pop... ...until you switch to hw:DACE17 for output. Then the sound breaks up. So I presume buffering is applied when using sysdefault, but not when using hw. No problem for me. I'll stick with the "-o sysdefault:DACE17" setting! :-) Richard Reeshar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35996 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

In > fact, something appears to crash on the RPi at the system level because > I have to reboot using sysdefault to get things back to normal... OK, got to the bottom of this. Two things: 1) I was running SqueezeLite 1.4 whereas the latest release is 1.5. A simple update fixed that. 2) I still had Alsa ( -a xxx:x ) settings in place which it seems conflict with the -o hw:CARD command. SqueezeLite v.1.5 traps this and brings up the help menu which is when I realised the Alsa settings conflicted. So SqueezeLite is now working OK with -o hw:CARD. Unfortunately it makes absolutely no difference to the clicks when using the UCA202 which I think are the consequence of noise on the USB power/signal lines and that the UCA202 probably has very limited noise filtering. If I get the chance, I will try a USB isolator with the UCA202 to see whether it makes any difference. I've ordered a low-cost one from China but it may not arrive in time before I have to return the UCA202 to Amazon (within 30 days of purchase). The isolator has a built-in DC-to-DC converter which is supposed to reduce noise transfer, but we'll see! Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
I have recently changed from squeezeplug to picoreplayer 1.10 on my 512mb pi. I have connected to pioneer amp via HDMI, I have added the 32 0 settings. On testing wma radio stations play fine, Spotify is good as well as AAC radio stations. But when I try to play a wma lossless track ( which plays fine on a squeezebox touch) I get massive noise which is like rhythmic splashing although the music can be heard underneath this noise, I have noticed that the top command shows that the squeezelite cpu is up at 96 to 98% effectively the pi is maxed out. Has anyone successfully streamed wma lossless using hdmi and picoreplayer 1.10. any help would be appreciated. avmoron's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=62391 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Strange. I've just tried this with a UCA202 and squeezelite "crashes" at boot-up ie, it isn't running when I log into the RPi. If I try and set it up by entering the command manually, LMS doesn't see the device. Yes, Lame is installed correctly, i can play mp3 files and also mp3 files that are converted on server level to different bitrate mp3. It's just the conversion from Flac to mp3 that gives problems. pimd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19488 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100402 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
After playing few days with piCorePlayer i noticed few things: 1. LMS Server IP doesn't work, it was already mentionned here 2. Changing Stream/Output buffer doesn't work, i can change the Stream/Output buffer, restart Squeezelite, but the buffer settings are not present in squeezelite command line 3. Using sysdefault:CARD=XXX causes very high CPU load, changing it to hw:CARD=XXX solves the problem. I checked it with two USB DACs - WaveIO/BII and Behringer UCA-202. after changing sysdefault into hw the squeezelite cpu load has changed from 80% (WaveIO)/40%(UCA 202) to ~2-3% squeezelite -l is not showing hw devices, but they are present. But the most important is: - wonderfull sound with USB DACs :) :) :) - easy integration in existing Squeeze* world :) :) :) thanks for this wonderfull software :) :) :) praganj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41091 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

BTW, there is already a list of DACs compatible with the RPi here although it doesn't test specific compatibility with SqueezeLite. It gives max sample rates and also whether the DACs are synchronous or asynchronous. http://www.raspyfi.com/raspberry-pi-usb-dac-and-raspyfi-supported-dacs/ Richard Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Reeshar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35996 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
@steen Upsampling everything to 192k works fine with the parameter -u X CPU useage goes up to 30-40% but there are no issues as far as I can tell. For the next version of picoreplayer, can you recommend using the "hw" string instead of "sysdefault" in Squeezelite options? This seems to be a lot better and is the only way to use upsampling without high CPU useage... Now I'd really like to know what the advantages of upsampling when using the HiFiBerry are? I had no noticeable problems without it and would like to know if I should keep the settings or not.
