I have a Logitech Squeezebox connected to an LMS box based on kubuntu,
all wired and recently it has been dropping out regularly.

I haven't bothered to try to sort this problem, but I must say I can't
understand random attacks of particular products with the complainers
having exactly no information of any value.

My own suspicion is that the player is synced to a transporter that's on
standby.

Gaps replacing audio usually means either the connection is broken and
remade - this can be seen on WebUI with the elapsed timer being reset to
zero.
The alternative source of gaps is squeezelite and the pi hardware.
Turning on squeezelite logging would be appropriate - I don't know how
to enable squeezelite logging on picoreplayer .

Why is proxying enabled on LMS - it is usually enabled to solve a
problem as it is off by default ? if it is enabled to solved a problem -
what was the problem ?

It is set for proxy streaming, the LMS is running on Linux (Nova) and
the gaps are replacing parts of the audio stream

If stations are selected using Tune-in then it is likely they are played
"direct" - the TCP stream goes straight from station to player and LMS
is not involved unless LMS has enabled proxying.

What system is LMS running on (e.g. Windows , Linux) and system spec ?
Is network proxying enabled on LMS ?
What is the nature of the "cut out" - is it gaps of silence inserted
into the audio stream or gaps of silence replacing parts of the audio
streams.

Im using tunein radio, the one that cuts out is using a Raspberry Pi2
with PiCorePlayer installed connected (wired) to the LMS. I also have a
Squeeze radio connected (wirelessly) to the LMS and that doesn't cut out
whilst listening to the same station. Its happening on the BBC stations
and commercial stations.

The mount point will be created by pcp, it should not be a currently
used directory

Hi Paul

I did install the additional file system support (at least I think I
did, currently there is a "remove" button active on pCP LMS tab, so
expect that this is installed? see below). I dont seem to get tooltips,
but there is the "more" option which gives some information.

First question: under "Setup Network Disk Mount" what am I filling in at
the "Mount point /mnt/" dialogue? Is this a name I choose that pCP
will create a "directory" or "path" or is it related to the NAS I want
it to find? You see, showing my poor network and Linux knowledge
here

I am using a Netgear router and the attached NAS has the following
information:

21462

On the pCP LMS tab, what do I fill into the "Server IP Address" and
"Server Share". The path name for the drive I intend to put the media
in is"\\readyshare\USB_Storage\slimserver" - of course I can create any
folder but this is the current one I am using.

21463

This is my current LMS tab on the pCP with my current effort that is not
working:

21461

Thanks for any advice
Arthur

It must be just me then, I'm really scared to post here because I get
torn a new one almost Everytime I post.

About your question I am pretty sure it can do what you want. They have
a lot of software that can be installed through menus but either way
it's just Debian Linux so it can do everything Debian normally does.

Running away now

I have not heard of dietpi until you mentioned it. Had a look and it
looks interesting. I have had a dig round but I can't find the answer to
one question - perhaps you know? Does dietpi have a built in PPTP or
L2TP client ? I know it has an implementation of OpenVPN server but I am
interested in using a Pi as a remote streamer with a VPN into my office

The BBC stream issue is related to using the BBCiPlayer playing chunked
http streams with a Windows based LMS and where the player needs
transcoding. AFAIK picoplayer has AAC and so there is no transcoding
unless the user has changed LMS settings.

The OP needs to providemore details on
- LMS platform
- whether Pi is connected using wireless or not and if wireless is it
using on board wifi on a Pi3
- what stream is being played and is it many streams or just one
specific one.
- what sort of "cut out" - is it a stall where audio has silence
inserted into stream but no audio is actually lost or is it a case of
audio is being lost and silence replaced the audio.

Only with the above info will it make it possible to decide which
logging to enable to diagnose the issue.
