I would say a ordinary rpi is for warmshower geeks only and the zeros

Hi,
mea culpa, but are you sure you want to handle a Task like compiling
some stuff?

Its not Hard Roland talks about a How To, so the links in the first line
might not help.
Do you want some help for Ogg Opus stuff or having trouble with
Bluetooth/ALSA ?

No - then it must be the build a self-contained LMS link???

Take a look at the governor as well.  We default to performance, but in
a battery life situation, changing to ondemand should help out.

Hi,

In my battery driven, wifi-only usage scenario I am having good results
when I disable usb and ethernet with:

echo '1-1' | sudo tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/unbind

ethernet is supposedly a power hog and indeed I am measuring both cool
temperatures (36C) and longer battery life with eth0 and usb down.

I'd like to make these settings permanent but could not figure out  a
way to do so.

Fantastic! - the first bit worked beautifully and I was able to stream
WMA to my Android phone. Many thanks!

I then used putty to enter the "echo" command string and rebooted, but
the WMA functionality didn't persist. I used winscp to look in
usr/local/slimserver/ but couldn't find the custom-convert.conf file,
and so I tried to repaste it but failed getting the message in winscp as
follows:
Error changing directory to ‘echo
usr/local/slimserver/custom-convert.conf >> /opt/.filetool.lst’.
Cannot get real path for '/usr/local/slimserver/echo
usr/local/slimserver/custom-convert.conf >> /opt/.filetool.lst'.
No such file or directory.
Error code: 2
Error message from server: No such file
Request code: 16

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I‘ve just read your post in the other thread, where you state that you
are using the official RPI display (which? The 7“?). If so, I think that
this is a completely different story, the 7“ display for example is
connected with a ribbon type cable to dedicated connectors of the Raspi,
not via the GPIO pins. So its not very probable that the calibration
process  described for the 3.5 waveshare display which you are trying to
use will work.
To be honest, I can‘t remember whether I had to calibrate my official
RPI 7“ display when I started using it, but I don‘t think so.

All the pCP developers use the "official" Raspberry Pi screen, so you
should expect perfect results.

I recommend you restart from scratch.

1. Burn new pCP image on SD card.
2. Go to [ Tweaks ] > [ Jivelite Setup ] > [ Install ]
3a. If prompted, expand SD card. (100 MB will be enough, wait till it
reboots a couple of times)
3b. Go to [ Tweaks ] > [ Jivelite Setup ] > [ Install ] (yes again, it
didn't install before)

On Jivelite screen:
4. Select Language
5. Select Grid Skin (800 x 480) ( or Joggler)

Note: If you select some weird resolution you may end up with unusual
results.

People sometimes forget to come back and do Step 3b. I can see the
slightly illogical installation process.

Yes, that’s the Display I purchased.  

The previous poster linked to a complicated process, but I guess you
have it integrated now.  Any extensions I need st all?  Is joggler the
correct selection?

I’m not sure why my touchscreen feels so difficult to use. If there is
nothing I can do to calibrate - are other Official Displays showing
similar behaviours.?

I’m having to tip toe around it, softly pressing it.  And volume button
(bottom right) is particularly irksome.

It may be simpler to install a supported perl version (5.24*), and use a
binary LMS package (probably arm64 on an odroid (c2 is arm64 - not sure
about u3))
That way, only one application (with fever dependencies) needs to be
compiled.
If you want to try this, see the howto linked to from my signature

Hi. I notice that you mention the Official RPi Display. When you are
using this display you simply need to attach it and then enable
Jivelite. This screen is working fine directly "out of the box" with
pCP. The touch function is already calibrated. 
So there is really no need for you to mess with these commands and
scripts etc.

I followed the instructions for the getting my Official RPi Display
working with the RPi and piCorePlayer.  It is working of a fashion, just
the precision of the screen, particularly at the edges, is not working.

I looked at the instructions for calibrating (the albeit different)

I had excellent luck by using a dual (or more) output USB power supply
with separate cables for the display and the pi. I have a 7" screen,
RPI3 and HiFiBerry RCA DAC with no issue. The power supply I am using
came from Amazon and it is a Ravpower 4 port travel wall charger with
2.4a capable output on each port, 8 amp total.

I use one cable to the pi and DAC and one to the 7" display.

This was after a lot of trial and disappointment on supposedly 3 amp
power supplies.

I hope I am in the right thread

First off - piCorePlayer - installation went great, my second use of RPi
(with Display) for a Boom Box style DIY Player.(the first use being
as a LMS Server with USB HDD).  Thanks to all contributors.

One of the remaining issues I am working through - is the calibration of
the screen.

I followed the instructions from http://www.pughx2.com/picore320.html

and get an error - "Open fbdevice: no such file or error"

I have no experience here - so I am likely missing something
simple.everything else went really well :-)

Imho the only products that make sense are the pi zero w and the pi 3.
The pi zero w adds comms capabilities and the pi 3 costs the same as a
pi 2 (if you can still get one).

By the time you factor the cost of a PSU, SD card, case, and whatever
accessories you need the saving between different pi models looks pretty
pathetic.

>From a power budget POV the pi 3 has higher CPU headroom and can consume
more but it's still pretty efficient when idle.

And I much prefer the built in Ethernet n the full size pi rather than a
double dongle on a usb on the go adapter.

I have a Pi Zero that I was going to use with a USB HiFiMe Sabre DAC as
a minimal size player. I can't get the USB DAC to work for love nor
money. However it works out of the box with a Pi3 so on that basis I'd
opt for a Pi3.

Yes, it's definitely a problem of the 4 GB Kingston card. I've used it
now for a Stretch image, and when trying to make an image, creation
fails at 47%, too.
I've used other cards now for PCP, and everything works fine.
BTW & slightly OT: If anybody is interested in shrinking sd card images,
for example to pass PCP from a bigger sd card to a smaller one, I can
highly recommend the pishrink script,

What's the best option for a player only (no LMS) and ethernet
connectivity (no Wifi) to stream flacs?  I like the much lower power
consumption of the zero but by the time I add a USB-to-ethernet adapter
will I be at the same price and power as a Pi2?  Or for the same price
as the Pi2 should I just go Pi3?  Not sure yet about amp hat vs separate
amp, there will probably be some of each.

Yes. They are good for basic navigation and pause/play operations, but I
personally find all the remotes with low button counts limiting.

Might be related to my daily use remote being the Sony RMT-D116A.

With the official rpi screen, yes.  There is backlight dimming, and off
(As long as it is not one of the first generation screens).  Not sure of

Aaahh that's the missing link. Don't know why, but I always
understood that I first had to define the GPIO to be used for sending
the sq playing/stopped signal, and then the script that should be
triggered by this signal...
