Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2020-01-11 Thread mkt

I am happily running piCorePlayer v6.0.0-b7 on a new RP 4. I am always
amazed that such a great project exists, and I hope everyone donates.

Under one setup, I did have some pops occur between flac tracks with
different sample rates (e.g., 16/44.1 -> 24/96). I blame the DAC/USB
combination, though without much basis. I tried upsampling everything in
order to avoid sample rate changes, but I didn't find the right
squeezelite settings (poor google skills I know), and kept ending up
with a squeezelite that wouldn't start.

Here are my results from connecting what I have in different ways.

POPS = piCorePlayer into Topping D30 (USB interface) <- my initial
choice :-(
NO POPS =piCorePlayer into Benchmark DAC3 (USB interface) <- incongruous
pair?
NO POPS = miniDSP with squeezelite into Topping 30 (coax) <- trying to
see if the Topping 30 was always trouble
NO POPS = piCorePlayer into Topping D50s (USB interface) <- this seems
like a winner!

I'm just reporting my experience so folks deciding on a DAC can have
another data point to use in their decision.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Wireless access point on piCorePlayer?

2020-01-11 Thread paul-

I believe the issue is that the phone wants to have an internet
connection, and thus takes a long time to connect.

Hook the player up to a ethernet connection and then also enable AP
mode. Now connect your phone.does it connect quicker.

All working fine now, thanks! Doddle to set up as before, and I will
have to change my sig. My other piCorePlayers have been just players
linked to my NAS. This one has LMS installed as well which is a
revelation compared to my Synology. I have two mirrored music libraries
which I keep on the NAS, one in FLAC the other MP3 (mainly for my
phone). The latter takes up 80GB so have copied it onto a 128GB micro
sized memory stick plugged into one of the USB sockets on the RPi. It
took less than 2 minutes to scan 12,000 files! It also starts up in a
couple of seconds. I think I will move my music library from the NAS to
a portable SSD plugged into one of my piCorePlayers.

Much chuffed! My 17 year old son has now come back to my SB system
having abandoned it some years back to use a bluetooth speaker and his
phone. He has had two big noisy parties recently, one for his birthday
and one for NYE. He was very impressed that he was able to sync the
music in three rooms in the house from his phone using the Orange
Squeeze app and the Spotty plugin. All without spending thousands on
Sonos kit.

He wanted one for his bedroom, so the idea was to build this one for
him. Think I might keep this one as a portable player instead. He has
inherited the "geek" gene, so I will give him the bits and let him build
his own. Knowing him he will make a proper case, include an amp, touch
screen etc.

Thanks to all the volunteers out there who make this possible. My SB
setup is over 11 years old now and just as impressive as it was the day
I got it. How much other tech can you say that about?

I don't use an iPhone. I use Samsung and Xiaomi smartphones, Huawei

time after turning on the Raspberry is 45-50 seconds. Then, if
disconnected, and reconnect, then 5-10 seconds.

2020-01-11 Thread paul-

Yes, sorry for mixing up the names.

TWART016,

There is a file named wpa_supplicant.conf.sample on the boot partition,
rename the file to remove .sample from the name. Then edit the
file, there is instructions in the file.

Note: the file has a line in it for country code..country code
should not have quotes around the name. i.e. country=GB (Not sure
how I missed that for a few releases, perhaps the kernel is getting more
picky)

As for the loop mount problem. For some reason the Zero does not like
to create loop mounts dynamically fast enough to keep things happy. I
don't see this all the time, but the way to rectify the problem is to
add max_loop=100 to the kernel command line.. (cmdline.txt on the
boot partition.) make sure if you edit this file, that it remains a
single line (no line feeds permitted)

An older version of the libts extension might work.

What is the contents of your libts.tcz.md5.txt and does it checksum ok?

Yep. DAC just arrived this morning, soldered the headers in place and
just plugged it in. It all just works, and it replaces my dead SB3.

Hi paul,

if you mean me:

I created the file netusb. After that I get the error:

Code:

netusb file found on mmcblk0p1
  Loading net-usb kernel modules.
mount: /tmp/tcloop/net-usb-4.19.80-pcpCore: failed to setup loop device for

  newpcp.cfg not found on mmcblk0p1.

With wpa_supplicant the wifi is now enabled but I still get no ip
address. What is the format in config file or setup in GUI for
encryption? WPA? WPA-PSK?

To be honest I think I'll give up with the rPi0w and Bluetooth/WiFi
onboard. I've already got a DAC on the way, so I'm happy to wait for
that to arrive. Wires are pretty hard to argue with, and I can tuck it
