In fact - I have 2 players. One is on 6.0.0 and the other is on 6.0.1.
The 6.0.0 player is fine. Same server.

@alexdz57
My powered speakers needed additional unmute option during the past pcp
updates to get sound.
Might want to check 'more>' at 'Unmute ALSA control' and try suggested
setting,
e.g.

Code:

Card 1: R51PM - Control: PCM

then set

Code:

PCM

at 'Unmute ALSA control'. (I guess you are using hardware volume
control.)

I'll install pCP, if I can't get any sound out of it I'll install

[SlimDevices: Unix] Settings for USB audio to Klipsch R-51PM

2020-11-27 Thread alexdz57

Hello. I'm trying to get a new picoreplayer/LMS installation working
with Klipsch powered speakers. Everything seems to be working except I
don't get any sound.

Squeezelite apparently sees the speakers since clicking More by Output
Setting shows me a list of possible strings specific to the R-51PM's.
Depending on which I select I either get an error restarting message or
it seems to work, but either way I'm not getting any sound. Whether it
accepts the particular string or not varies so it may restart OK on
hw:CARD=R51PM,DEV=0 one time and then error another. If it doesn't error
out and I try to play something the player will look like it's playing a
track sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't do anything. Regardless,
silence.

I have not touched any of the rest of the squeezelite settings and don't
know if I'm supposed to. I'm using mp3 and flac files, but it's the same
thing with radio stations.

Appreciate any help.

[SlimDevices: Unix] Memory Leak in Perl Engine on piCorePlayer?

2020-11-27 Thread mvordeme

For a few days, now, I have been running a piCorePlayer 6.1.0 with LMS
on a Pi 4 B with 2G of memory. I mainly use the Pi to transcode AAC
streams from Tidal. There are no additional plug-ins installed.

I observe the following behaviour: After the LMS is started, it will run
without complaints for about a day, and then the connected players will
suddenly start to re-buffer all the time and eventually stop playing
altogether.

I have been looking at CPU and memory consumption on the Pi (I don't
quite understand how the in-memory file system fits into it) and noticed
that the main Perl process seems to be hogging memory. When a certain
limit is exceeded, the transcoding processes suddenly will not have as
much memory as they used to, and the re-buffering will start. I have
monitored the system with top for a day and copied the output.

file system:

Code:

The Perl process is constantly growing from 100m to about 200m. The faad
and flac processes run with 5404 and 2780 k of memory consistently all
day until the re-buffering starts. I can't make anything of it since the
O/S still seems to have plenty of memory to spend on caching, but maybe
somebody else can.

This is also no problem for the Argon One case. The fan is only
switching on here when it is getting hotter than 50°C and that is the
case when the database is newly created. But the fan is only running for
30s or so, then it is again cooler than 50°C. But I think you can let
the Pi run at 50°C without a problem. You can also switch the fan
completely off.

I use a flirc case to house my Pi4 / LMS, this has no fan and has no
problem at keeping the temperature below 45ºC, I am completely satisfied
with this case.

A comparison with the Argon one case (without fan) shows the Argon to be
slightly better than the flirc.

Personally that would be good enough for me, as I would have no wish to
have a fan going 24/7 on a player only box.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] pcp 6.1 won't play some ALAC files

2020-11-27 Thread JQW

This could explain the issues I've been having with the 7.00 public
beta. The library I was testing with only contains ALAC files, with any
attempt to play anything causing SqueezeLite to crash. As far as I'm
aware the tags reside at the beginning of the files.

I hope to have another play tomorrow.

I'm using 7.9.4 - for quite some time now.

That makes a degree of sense, which leads to the next question - how
would I find out where the metadata is hiding? Pretty much all of my
files are ripped with dbpoweramp and fettled in tag & rename. I've been
using both of these for years & years.

What version of LMS ?
If the files have the metadata & index at the end of the file rather at
the start then they need to be transcoded as a file on LMS (which can
seek to bottom of file) as they cannot be streamed (e.g. cannot start
playing file as index is at end of stream) .

LMS 8.0 and maybe 7.9.4 have changes to support streaming such files.

[SlimDevices: Unix] pcp 6.1 won't play some ALAC files

2020-11-27 Thread TimM

I'm using pcp 6.1 on 3 players, with up to yesterday great success.

I have the FFmpeg libraries installed on all 3 players, 2 use hifiberry
dac's, one a usb dac. Absolutely nothing changed yesterday (as far as I
know) but for some reason it's taken to refusing to play several albums
in their entirety. At first I thought it may be that the files have
corrupted, or maybe it could be a permissions issue. However the same
album was trying to play on My touch and radios, and would play
perfectly when not sync'd to the picores.

There was nothing obvious in the log - what would I have to enable to
track down this sort of behaviour?

Anyway I've 'fixed' the problem by changing file preferences to disable
apple lossless and everything plays nicely now.

Is there a picore setting I've inadvertently changed, if so danged if I
can find it.

Flac and sox run on LMS which according to your post is Raspbian not PCP

PCP 6.0 and 6.1 are specially only player related. They do not see flac
or sox.

So please confirm:.
* Same Raspberry pi board/unit just swapping sdcard when testing 6.0 vs
6.1 and LMS is NOT running ?
* LMS is not changed between tests with 6.0 and 6.1

What is the squeezelite command configured to be used with 6.0 and 6.1

Thanks so much. Regarding your prior post, I can confirm tracks 2nand 3
do not play. Only the first plays.

Will check versions of flac and sox soon. ...and I promise it works

I missed that. If LMS is on Raspbian then anything is possible and so
version and *builds *of flac and sox must be checked.

In case some LMS update changed them. Confirm no difference in versions
of flac and sox between 6.0 and 6.1

Please run LMS BIN copy of flac and sox from a shell prompt to get
banner and version or just with "--version" to get version number.

edit

/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/armhf-linux/

First track is played natively by player - no transcoding and no use of
