i2c-dev is a kernel module, which is included in the base. Your correct
on the python versionwe also swapped the naming a bit on the
extension, but it should all be easily found in the extension page.

Thank you!

In the mwantime I searched the old thread regarding the Argon One case.
I found out that I also need the following files:
rpi-vc.tcz (this is already there!)
smbus-python3.6.tcz (I think this will now be 3.8)
RPi-GPIO-python3.6.tcz (I think this will now be 3.8)
i2c-dev (this is needed for modprobe)

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 'Official' docker container for LMS?

2020-12-23 Thread redtom

Hi,

I've been running the jboesl lms docker image for a year or so on a
Synology 918+ with a Joggler and Boom with no real issues. I've
recently picked up a Touch as well so wanted to refresh my setup a
little and am migrating over to the lmscommunity 8.1 stable container.
However, I'm being hit with the Bad repositiory / Bad file descriptor
error on the plugins page.

A curl from within the container gives the following.

IO::Socket::SSL is showing as below the recommended 2.06 version as
below. Is this the source of the issue?

Logitech Media Server Version: 8.1.0 - 1608700893 @ Wed Dec 23 12:17:24

Hostname: lmscommunity-logitechmediaserver1

Perl Version: 5.24.1 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
Audio::Scan: 1.02
*IO::Socket::SSL: 2.044*

Tried updating it via cpan (took me back :)) to test but fell over on
some Mozilla-CA dependancy which I couldn't get around so no joy there
either.

Any ideas?

I've been following the instructions from here

My problem is I'm not seeing the /music folder and am getting "Error

The mount points are set to the corresponding shares on the NAS

Anything obvious I'm missing?

Funny as it reports itself as 6.1.

A few days ago I did an in-situ from 5 to 6.1. (Thus skipping 6.0)

I'm not sure how you have a screen looking like that, but your web
interface is NOT from pcp6. You still have a pCP 5 web interface.

Without knowing what happened over time, it would be best to start with
a new image.

So if this is all working correctly

On the pCP LMS web pageSelect Development branch
32657

Then Click "Update LMS" and do the manual update. If you happen to
want to change from Development back to Release or stable, you will need
to check the "Allow Downgrade" option.

PS: Note I see I still have a timer on the Update LMS page
redirect.so don't stare too long at the screen before selecting

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer Documentation

2020-12-23 Thread P Nelson

I went into LMS tab, Samba settings, and changed the Server Workgroup
field to WORKGROUP which matches the name (and case) on my windows 10
machine. I backed up the pi and shutdown and restarted. I rebooted my
Windows 10 laptop. I did not see the PiCoreLMS under the Network in the
File Manager. However, I did see my directv and router.

I have some additional feedback on documentation. Early on in this
thread there was a discussion of including more of what and why. For
example, why should, or perhaps not, move the LMS cache files to the
hard drive. More information on reason for resizing the file system and
what is considered a large file system that would require a larger size.
I agree with that observation and it would be helpful information for
someone new to this.

I on the Server WorkGroup issue that I brought up, more information on
making it the same as your Windows 10 workgroup is recommended.
(However, for me it seems to have not have worked.)

I could go into more detail, but I am very busy at the moment.

thank you

Paul

Hi Michael, I experience a sort of similar issue, on the DS216+
I have downloaded the 8.1.0 stable version (after trying 2 days the
8.0.0 stable) but for some reason while starting from docker is stops
unexpected. This happened for both versions.

I have also tried the Apnar LMS version and that seems to be working. It
doesn not stop and is accessible over the 9000. As I do appreciate your
work and love the quality of it I do prefer to use the Community
version.
Any idea what could cause the stopping. Let me know if you need
additional info.

Honestly I am new to Dockers and don't have the understanding how it
works. Just trying to set up the system. I find it difficult to map with
my music folder on the network. No clue how to organize. (can you
advise?)

Cheers for now.

When updating

32bit -> 32bit
64bit -> 64bit

32bit installs you will see the kernels listed as pcpCore-v7 (or v7l or
nothing in the case of v6)
32649

64 bit will show the kernel as pcpCore-v8

Otherwise, its all under the hood.

I've just in situ upgraded a Pi4 from 7beta 64 bit to 7.0.0, will this
be 64 bit?

Does pCP display which version is installed?

Since it is a pure 64bit system there is not a practical way to upgrade.
So any current pcp6 installation will only upgrade to a 32 bit system.

Hello!

That is i really great christmas present! Thank you very much!

Is it possible to make an insitu update from 6.1.0 to a 64bit version on
a Pi4B? I think the normal insitu update would install the 32bit
version.

Yes they do work on a system using HDMI out to 7 inch vga/Hdmi screen,

[SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0

2020-12-23 Thread paul-

Lets keep the Christmas presents coming!

The pCP team is happy to announce the official release of piCorePlayer
7.0.0

Significant changes

_*pCP_7.0.0*_

- Kernel 5.4.83
- RPi Firmware Dec 8, 2020
- Includes support for RPi 400, and CM4 modules.
- Based on piCore 12.x base.
- OpenSSL 1.1.1h
- Drivers included for upcoming DAC cards. Allo Boss2, and PiFi40.
- Hardware Random Daemon. Required for some headless installations to
allow SSL to work properly. SSH key generation on older pi
boards(Zero/B/B+) is still rather slow on first boot. May take up
120-140s on first boot to fully populate.
- mDns enabled by default. Burn your image, boot the RPi, and find it
by http://pcp.local This is broadcasting the hostname of your player,
so please change your hostname on the tweaks page if you have multiple
pCP devices. (mDns can be disabled on the tweaks page too)
- Integration of cifs-utils for better CIFS drive mounting support,
including special characters in share passwords. (Not enabled by
  default)
- You now have the ability to set the amount of time when retrying to
mount remote network shares. This should resolve problems where NAS
system boot slower than pCP. The network share also no longer
  disables itself if not found.
- Includes Squeezelite 1.9.8-1287-pCP, which includes the latest ssl
  handling patches.

_CHANGES_SINCE_BETA6_

- RPi4B 8GB board should boot fine on both 32 bit and 64bit images
- PirateAudio display support is updated and working
- Implemented LMS upgrade branches for upgrade
(Release/Stable/Development) Default is the release branch, but is
  user selectable.

_*Images*_

32 Bit: 'piCorePlayer7.0.0'
SUPPORTS[/B]: ALL RPI BOARDS

64 BIT:
PICOREPLAYER7.0.0-64BIT
(\"HTTPS://REPO.PICOREPLAYER.ORG/INSITU/PICOREPLAYER7.0.0/PICOREPLAYER7.0.0-64BIT.ZIP\")
*SUPPORTS*: RPI3B AND RPI4B BOARDS.

_KNOWN_ISSUES_

- No support for RT kernels. I don't see support for these kernels
  continuing.
- Merus Amp is not fully integrated yet, please note how to configure
  the card.

https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111787-ANNOUNCE-piCorePlayer-6-0-0=993971=1#post993971
- The 64bit kernel does not support the USB Fiq driver that is
required on a RPI3B for most proper USB functions. The RPi4B never
has required this version of the usb driver.

_NOTES_

- Adding a file named "netusb" to the boot partition will
  automatically load/configure net-usb kernel modules.
- Adding wpa_supplicant.conf to the boot partition will automatically
  enable wifi.

_RECOMMENDED_UPGRADE_PATH._

- Download new image and configure from scratch.
- Insitu_update is availiable, and handles most installations.
*However, downgrading versions will not be possible.*
- Some packages will be automatically upgraded, as they are known to
need updated for pcp7. Some packages like python will not be
automatically upgraded. While the old version are no longer available
for download, they should continue to work on your current system.

I don't have a touch screen or a mouse only a Justboom IR remote control
to control my system and pressing the OK button does not find VU
meters.
Now playing gives me choices and VU meter is there but no way to access
it.

On a pi screen running jivelite, from the usual "Now playing" screen,
repeated presses in the centre of the screen runs through the various

Using the Joggler skin on a 24 inch monitor

Navigated to Settings > Screen > Now Playing > Now Playing Views >

32643

Started playing fip radio on the pi, through the headphones, clicked on
the screen five times to get the vu meters. Needles are static.

Returned to Tweaks and selected Download, selected Kolossos Oval, then
Save

32644

Returned to Now Playing Views and the screen had not changed.

No extra VU meter to choose, I'm guessing this is where it would be

I have no idea, unless it will only work with the rpi screen (which is a
bit strange, but entirely possible :))

I set up a Pi4/4GB with pCP 6.1.0 Standard Version.

Working my way through nowhinjing's how-to.

To resize the file system it says go to Main page > *Advanced Mode
Operations*, this is now *Additional Functions* in the more recent UI.

Why resize to a mere 1000MB? and a *Danger* "If you have a large library
select “Use 2000 MB” or “Whole SD card”. *In my opinion* 2000MB should
be the absolute minimum, I use the whole card if it's a 8 or 16 GB card.

Installed LMS then on to set up SAMBA.

As Redrum points out in his post above, if you don't enter anything in
the Server Workgroup, when you click the "Set Shares" button you get a
pop-up to tell you to "fill out this field", and cannot proceed unless
you enter something.

@nowhinjing makes no mention of a "Workgroup" anywhere in his how-to, so
we can only assume that the need to enter anything in that field came
with a pCP version change?

If you take the trouble to find your Windows workgroup name and enter
that (mine's WORKGROUP), then your pCP will appear under "Network" in
Windows/File Explorer. I named mine NickyNook in pCP.

32635

32637

If you enter anything else other than your Windows workgroup name (I
entered MARTINMACBULGEPIKE), then your pCP *will not* appear under
"Network" in Windows/File Explorer.

32638

But you can still follow nowhinjin's instruction to "Add a network
location", and then be able to access the attached USB drive/stick using
Windows/File Explorer.

Sorry but I am unclear what exactly Jivelite is. Is it the local UI, I

To see the VU meters on pCP you have to be using JiveLite and it has to
be on a player that is playing.

You cannot see the VU meters for a remote player (unless you sync that
player to the one running JiveLite ... in which case it is playing even
if you cannot hear anything).

Then, you tap the middle screen to cycle through the displays that you
have enabled via (from memory) Settings/Screen/Now Playing/Now Playing
Views.

Paul that sounds far too complex for the benefits. pCP is lean and fast,
I will keep it like that.

But I have never seen VU meters on pCP, how do I see VU meters and
decide if I really want them, what do I need to do, what skin and how.
Thanks

The linked post from paul- had at the end
"If there is interest here, we can work on some how-to's"

I didn't see anyone in the few days that followed expressing an interest
so my guess is that there are no "how-to's" ready to go for the imminent
pCP 7.0 release.
However, if it is only documentation that is needed rather than
significant changes to pCP 7 then expressing an interest in such an
approach (and explaining why) over in that thread might get some
traction.

It looks like it would need reconfiguration of the display interface and
installation of a web browser.
So what you could do is test and confirm that Epiphany web browser on a
Pi does do what you want.

I don't understand ronnie, are you saying try pCP 7. Keep it simple I

I seen to remember *paul-* hinting at this to you (or maybe some else)
on another thread .

Might be time for a rethink.
At the moment I am running Daphile on a thin client with internal user
interface showing on a 14 inch monitor controlled by a usb remote
control.
I want to change to pCP on a Pi 3 +, still running into the 14 inch
monitor and Jivelite and controlled by Justboom remote. I have this
going on another system.
I will have to have the Pi in a box so it seemed to me, run 3.5 inch
screen from the GPIO connector showing VU.
Too many problems?
