Check out:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/misc.md

I do it all the time on random pi projects other than my picoreplayers.
I'm not certain it removes it from picoreplayer display either. (it used
to i believe). This is more like electrical tape on your check engine
light.

So my music is NAS, LMS runs on an odroid that mounts the NAS, and
picores run on several pis and chromecast stuff.
The only difference is my nas isn't sleeping. I think you may run into
an issue (i do) if the nas storage isnt ready and you try to play
something and "can't find it, " it's going to remove them from the
database. I wind up havinf to do a full rescan everytime.

Technically your NAS shouldn't be hibernating /sleeping. If your disks
are sleeping that's one thing but everything would be there would just
pause while everything spins up, but in full sleep, those connections
aren't available to LMS.

But I'd definitely add a user script to wake it up when picoreplayer
launches.

I just confirmed on my setup, once it detects next it then sends the WOL
and displays the mac address.

I can't test WOL since this server doesn't sleep. If you plug a monitor
in you'll be able to clearly see when it's issuing the command. I have
jivelite and i can see when its occuring.

These values are filled out in the web interface under tweaks? You are
using :'s in the mac address?

There is a wait for network under wifi, not sure if that applies to
wired.

In addition, if it works via commandline you could put it in a shell
script and run it as extra parameter which will run it at startup, too -
- thats how i envoke VPN.

If those settings are correct as far as servers mac address and your eth
port, it should work. It is entirely possible that eth0 is coming up
first before wake up, but i never personally had that issue.

When picoreplayer boots, does it say it's waking the server? I kind of
recall it mentions it. Might be worth attaching a screen to see what's
going on when it boots since boot is fairly verbose, or possibly the
logs (not sure which ones)

Sorry, I haven't used WOL since I switched to an odroid.

Sorry not sure i caught the whole story, but if your trying to wake a
device on wifi, the device can't be sleeping either, typically they will
still show network status lights.

In addition, ususally have to be on the same switch as its a broadcast
packet. Try to wake it up from same device type (ie: wifi from pi, now
try on wifi from phone). I had issues when i had multiple linksys/dlink
switches and the way it handled broadcasts across them.

matter. It seems like its not switching to the right output

So this makes a lot of sense now. Yeah so i think it started because i
was cha ging from ethernet to wifi and vpn and had same names but
different players.

Finally corrected issue, i had mac address filled in (thought it was
server mac, not client) and got the right player to display and back to
normal.

Ah. This makes a bit more sense now. I think my issue is that
sometimes i use wifi vs ethernet vs vpn but same player name. There are
times when theres 2 players with the same name.. So maybe thats how
this happened

Everything else plays great. Tried over ethernet too and i have several

I'm running a beta version that has a lot of custom things on it and i
dont really want to upgrade it to have to go through all the steps
again.. Im all for a performance boost or sound quality bump. Wifi
struggles to play 24/192 files but it has the ethernet capability so im
ok with that. This gives me plenty of opens when im on the road.

Is updating extentions the best route? Does that give me the latest
drivers for hifiberry DAC+ Pro card or others? Or even the openvpn one?

I typically upgrade all my picoreplayers but this one i try to leave
alone but I'm running v6.0.0-b7 on it.

So this script is great. I had to modify it a little where i ran
openvpn after it tries to kill the process since mine was connecting to
vpn regardless. I also set the home network to something wildly
different as for me, my network is very common so it would think i was

lol. I've been toggling a little bit and getting varied results, but
I'm making a lot of changes and not keeping track of them very well.

Jivelite on the v6 beta has a bit of odd behavior with my experience as
it is, but going to the remote library setting and confirming it isn't
the end of the world. I'm not quite sure at this point if I will keep
the screen attached anyway as I mainly want to use the unit as portable,
and I'd assume HDMI audio output would be a consideration on certain
places I go.

That's pretty sweet. Was thinking of similiar by pinging something and
if it couldn't resolve the name it would try and VPN in because I know a
lot of places I go tend to use the same internal network addresses and
potentially get a false positive, but honestly that would work as I have
a few IP's that no one I know would really have.

Definitely going to leverage that script, thanks so much!

Been fine all day after reseating the screens stock yadapter until about
20 minutes ago. I got a new y adapter today that is type A and uses two
seperate cables rather than 1 cable with micro USB at the end and seemed
to resolve it so far. I did see the PS reach a bit over .900 at one
point with no bolt. In addition the screen seems more responsive and i
was getting bolts when touching the screen, too.

I probably should've figured the yadapter was the issue but just kinda
overlooked it. I'll see if i can do some measurements, too for kicks
and giggles

So according the power suppliies display, with just the pi hooked up,
5.02 and. 298 but sometimes hits. 300. With both the pi and screen it
shows 5.01 and .862...it does vary a little though.

The PS is rated 5V 4A via USB, otherwise its variable 5-24V

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2019-02-20 Thread kbeast

I have a duplicate setups, using a pi2, hifi berry pro+ with jumper off
using coax digital out. Using official pi screen and y adapter to a
nobsound g1 Regulated Linear Power Supply supply. Im using ankers more
expensive usb cable that comes with a fancy case, but ive tried a ton.
Sometimes i get under voltage, sometimes i don't.. Sometimes its
constant... Mostly intermittent... I do notice when its intermittent
and shows for a second, i can hear a little distortion.

Anyway to avoid this? Im going to try a new y adapter, but not sure it
will help. I dont want to have two of these power supplies to keep low
noise going to both the pi and the screen..

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-08-10 Thread kbeast

I upgraded to 4 beta 6 no issues. When i went to confirm latest version
and what version i actually had (audio, realtime), i upgraded ontop.
While it was upgrading i refresh the page by mistake trying to look at
the verbose information.. It upgraded ok but wiped my config out.

Not a huge deal, not sure if i missed a warning or not. I was rushing a
bit as i was excited and still on 3.20.

Definitely noticeably faster.

this information on tjr Now Playing screens and elsewhere... Similar to
Squeeze Ctrl on Android.

I tried a new dac, sound blaster e5, same setup, a lot of crackling and
artifacts with 3.20 on this dac like others said, but since it was my
firat time i will try 3.02 and see if i have the problem, maybe its the
dac..

The treble problem seems to still exist, not as much on the sound
blaster, but they sound worlds different as they arent even in the same
league..

I had similar issue, select the hifi digi+, (i believe). It'll ask to
reboot, click no, now select your card will appear and select it, reboot

Is it me or has ghe audio changed in 3.20 from 3.02 where the treble is
a bit forward/artifical?
Im using pi2 with hifiberry digi+ and 3.20audio that uses optical into a
schiit bifrost uber dac (most of the time).

I have a pi2 with a Hiberry Digi+ using optical out to a Schiit Bifrost
Uber. Is it me or the treble a bit artificial sounding now using 3.20,
specifically like high hats and cymbals.
