I've tried all sorts, turning off the router firewall and VistaLaptop1

put SqueezeCenter on VistaLaptop2 to test, VistaLaptop1 and N95 could

Back onto this now, got everything set up in the new house with the
same problems. Changed the server static IP to 192.168.1.34 to avoid
conflicts with the router's IP range but still not working correctly.

Borrowed another router to try tonight. Also got an SB3 now (which
works fine wirelessly) so I could try wiring the laptop to that

I admire your tenacy, but haven't a clue about your problem myself.
But I think apache or any other extra web server is not needed for SC
to run and may even cause problems, because SC has it's own I presume
to serve the web interface pages. Did you already try to change the
port SC listens on (Settings-Advanced-Network or something similar)
for the web interface? What does the SC log say? Eventually you have to
change the log level to get more info...

Apache is not needed on an SC server. It doesn't cause problems, as long
as you let the SC use the default ports. If you change them, you have to
avoid conflicting with Apache's use of 80 and 443.

Oh yes, you need a gui. I always install the desktop options when I
install a Debian server. I rarely use it, but its wonderful for
debugging setup stuff.

While not having X-windows installed saves a tiny bit of disk space,
since disks are free, and folks using SqueezeCenter tend to have a gig
or more of music, the difference is not noticable. Once I get it all
setup and working, I just change the init level and X is not started, so
it has zero impact on performance.

I never worried about changing to try to use 80. I'm sure it can be
done, after all, its open source. But I never bother.

The GUI is also nice for setting up firewalls, the syntax of iptables is
at best baroque.

du tells what is being used

if you cd down, du will tell you how much is used from that directory down

Did you add debian.slimdevices.com to your sources.list file and then
use apt-get to install?

I did a basic Debian installation on my t5710, deselecting server,
desktop, etc. and choosing only the standard installation.

Then I added the source list entry and did an apt-get to install
SqueezeCenter.

At that point it began working and has ever since.

I've updated modules since then and pointed it to my SMB-mounted music
storage which necessitated installing the SMB client, but the basic
installation was as straightforward as that.

Yup, SqueezeCenter installed fine, I can access it from my Boom, I just
can't access it from ipaddress:9000 on another pc.

Did you choose anything from
http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/linux/2005/09/29/graphics/fig04-software-select.png
, e.g. 'Web server'?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Problems setting up SqueezeCenter on Debian Linux HP Thin Client

2009-03-30 Thread davidrhodes

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a SqueezeBox Boom and a second hand HP T5725
Thin Client (512Mb DOM, 256Mb RAM) to use as a music server. I have a
powered 500Gb USB Hard Drive for the music.

After deciding which OS to use
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61449) I upgraded the
HP internal flash DOM to 2Gb and installed the basic Debian Lenny from
http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst with no additional features from
the following page

[image:
http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/linux/2005/09/29/graphics/fig04-software-select.png]

Then I updated sources.list with nano and installed squeezecenter
successfully.

My Boom can now see and connect to SqueezeCenter on the HP

The problem is that I cannot access the web interface from my Vista
laptop using http://192.168.1.66:9000/. When I try to access it the
browser just hangs forever. It is definitely trying to resolve it
though as changing the port number errors. I can also ping 192.168.1.66
from the laptop.

I'm a bit stuck now, please could anyone help with this?

cheers, Dave :)
