• Research, evaluate and recommend network architecture solutions based on 
performance, stability, availability, cost-efficiency, and development 
requirements

• Collaborate with and advise colleagues on policies and procedures, technical 
problem resolution, and best practices for network infrastructure design and 
implementation; 
• Consult with and advise users of various technology infrastructure designs 
and architecture models; generate conceptual, logical, and physical network 
architectures, test plans, requirements, use cases, interface control 
documents, 
and risk assessments to ensure the design and delivery of network LAN/WAN

• Network Device Cabling and port assignments.
• Network cabinet configuration and rack elevation diagrams.
• Document PSAC2 network device naming convention and device names (device 
usernames).
• Document PSAC2 IPv4 address.
• Document PSAC2 IPv6 address.  Document PSAC2 VESTA and ECTP2 VLAN.
• Update Layer 2 and Layer 3 Visio diagrams.
• PSAC2 network engineering document.
• Document Test Report.
• Follow up on all required network task assign from the various work steams.

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:


• At least 8 years of experience with data center and enterprise LAN and WAN 
planning, design, implementation (builds and expansion), security, and 
management.
• Experience with OSI Layer 1 (L1) through L7 protocols.
• Experience with Cisco and other vendor routers, switches, firewalls, IPSs, 
test tool installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and management. 
• Experience with rack/cabinet configuration and elevation diagrams.
• Experience with Cisco IOS release and Cisco ASR  router platforms, Cisco 
ISR router platforms, Cisco Nexus 7000 and 7700 series platforms, Cisco Nexus 
3000 series platforms, ASA firewalls, IPS, load balancers, Catalyst 6500 series

• Experience with network test tools, testing procedures and execution, and

• A thorough understanding of IPv4 and IPv6 unicast and multicast routing, 
routed and routing protocols, their limitations and constraints, as well as 
network services, protocols, and applications. 
• Experience with IPv4/ IPv6 technologies and routing to include OPSFv2 and 
OSPFv), EIGRP, BGP/MPLS, OTV/VDC layer 2 extension, vPC, PIM Sparse-dense 
mode/IGMP, 
HSRP, H.323, SIP, MGCP, SCCP hardware and software, EtherChannel, PortChannel, 
STP, Rapid PVST+, PortFast, LACP, and other STP protocols.
• Experience with the execution of installation and maintenance of network 
software and hardware.

Job Description:

Key Relationships:  Interfaces with WAN support, LAN support, network 
integrators, 
DOE network engineers, Project Connect network engineers and other support 
teams to oversee that compliance and direction are maintained with the 
placement 
of network hardware into the overall DOE enterprise topology.

 

Responsibilities:

· Maintain and support a large enterprise network 
connecting 
a citywide environment of over 1200 locations.

· Candidate must be able to support day to day operations 
that include routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, and VPN.

· Work closely with the Network Operations Center to 
troubleshoot 
and resolve complex network issues.

· Perform day-to-day network administration tasks including 
network equipment installation, configuration, upgrades, testing and

Certification Requirements

Minimum:

· A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and 
eight years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in VoIP 
architecture and design, wide area network planning, design, configuration, 
installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, 
maintenance, 
enhancement, and security management; or

· A master’s degree in computer science or a related field 
from an accredited college may substitute for one year of experience.  However, 
all candidates must have at least eight years of satisfactory (not classroom 
based) full-time information technology experience as described in “1” above.

 

Experience and Skillsets

· Expertise and significant hands-on experience working 
with large LAN/WAN infrastructure and all LAN and WAN networking technologies 
Knowledge of communication protocols and Cisco communication equipment.

· Hands-on experience and expertise with Cisco Nexus family
