Re: Confluence Space Merge

2010-09-02 Thread Sam Hamilton
Hi Guys,

I have been thinking about this indexing problem - do you think its possible to
build something like http://help.eclipse.org/ but at
http://ofbiz.apache.org/help/ or suitable location outside the demo sites - I
still think that google is having too hard a time getting into the demos? I am
right in assuming that the eclipse help site is built on DocBook?

We could replicate DocBook files between the two locations so that both a
locally installed OFBiz user and someone googling for some information have it
at their finger tips?

I have the same situation with my demo, since I have not yet got my
certs put back in.
Just like if you go to a site that the browser warns you, as long as the
brower is not restarted you can bypass the warning and continue to see
the site as normal.

Thinking about this more I bet Goggle does not like SSL warnings like we
have on the demo sites - bad user experience for non-technical users.

I do a lot of google to find things.
what i find is that unless I am pretty close the hits do no show up in
the first few pages. and I am amazed of the pages I don't find in google
from the wiki. They get posted in the ML or I stumble on them by mistake.

google SEO has changed over the years.
the main key to getting ranking is page modification.
or Adding content.

to answer your question, if Docbooks can run on apache httpd, then it is
a simple script to copy what is in the svn to website, like we use to
do, and still do for DTD's (xsd).

upgraded to 3.2 we can now restrict access to pages based on

so that the pages that should not be edited can stay that way and the
ones that are open can also be open all within the same space.

There are methods for moving pages from the space to space [2] or
if we
want to leave a redirect from the old page to the new page then we
could
either request a macro to be installed in Confluence [3] or otherwise
keep the old space and just write a note saying the content has moved
and give a link to the new page URL.

Thinking about this more I bet Goggle does not like SSL warnings like we

I don't have time to search the 18,000

I expect though as we add content and even put a last update date on the
pages that it will start to show.
I notice with the same search for ofbiz catalog that the wiki pages did
not show for the Catalog manager.
I expect they are also in the 18000+ links but because they are
static(don't change) they are not very high in the ranking.

Hi Guys,

I would like to bring up again trying to organise an effort to clean up
and better arrange our wiki spaces. Now that Confluence has been
upgraded to 3.2 we can now restrict access to pages based on groups [1]
so that the pages that should not be edited can stay that way and the
ones that are open can also be open all within the same space.

Yes that sounds like a plan indeed. We just need to get a consensus (should be ok I guess since it's better for the project) and
organize ouselves in order to do the migration...

There are methods for moving pages from the space to space [2] or if we
want to leave a redirect from the old page to the new page then we could
either request a macro to be installed in Confluence [3] or otherwise
keep the old space and just write a note saying the content has moved
and give a link to the new page URL.

I'd prefer to move forevermore. Maybe a bit more work but it would allow to reorganize better. It could be done by different persons
for different spaces. We simply need to agree on what and how itr should be done.

  Hi BJ,

My only worry about that is getting the search engines to index and then
rank the information if the only copy of the data is in the demo OFBiz.

I love the idea of having all the documents within a local deployment of
OFBiz but do you think its possible to copy them (imagining that they
are DocBook format or the such) and have a copy on ofbiz.apache.org
which would then hopefully give visibility on the search engines for
OFBiz searches - how many times have you searched for a wiki page that
you know exists but can't find it over all the other blog posts people
have created?

There are methods for moving pages from the space to space [2] or if we
want to leave a redirect from the old page to the new page then we could
either request a macro to be installed in Confluence [3] or otherwise
keep the old space and just write a note saying the content has moved
and give a link to the new page URL.

I have had a quick search and don't see Google indexing the help pages

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=ensafe=offq=site:demo-trunk.ofbiz.apache.org/+showHelpaq=faqi=aql=oq=gs_rfai=

They are indexing the demo site but it seems only the /control/main
pages and the /ecommerce pages as its not password protected.

(this is why I recently hided the help icon when not logged in).
Will the search engine spiders be able to scan it?

 2010/8/29 BJ Freemanbjf...@free-man.net

I had to check on my demo to verify that the Search engines do parse the
 Help in the Demo
I see is good in two ways. One it will drive people to the demo.
two it will show off the help system in ofbiz.
Thought occurs to me we need to add links in the help to send someone to
 the proper place in ofbiz.

I can see your point for technical
however I don't see a need to have searh engines index the user docs
since once your in the app the help button gives you the help you need.

just has to be populated.
Plus the overall Help has a tree for navigating to the desired doc.
Note: I see that the help on ofbiz has been changed to point to the wiki
how disappointing
