There will be two themes for the night, about forty five minutes approximately for each one. --- Question 1: Okay. What Is the Future of Java Web Development? --- This theme will be looking back over the recent innovations over the last two or three years. Of this will cover the invention or discovery of asynchronous JavaScript and XML, JSON, DOM dynamic incremental update technologies. It will also cover the battle between JavaScript and proprietary media content on the web, where does Java the platform and the language fit in? --- Question 2: How Are We Now Going to Architect the New Enterprise? --- This theme will tackle the challenges we face with the new enterprise development for the rest of `The Noughties'. We are particularly interested in the impact of Java Enterprise Edition to the businesses, and to the community of developers. We want to know what kinds of technologies will be changing the way Java software is created for business and the real-world. How will these technologies change the architecture and design for new application that are just a glimmer in the eye right here right now. We will look at where we are now. Some of us are still on the J2EE 1.4 track on our day-jobs, whilst some of us are just starting to get acquainted with Java EE 5 and beyond. It is an exciting road ahead for all of us. [OT][ANN] JAVAWUG BOF 21 / 5th Sept 2006 @ 18:30 / SkillsMatter / Max Antoni / AJAX Objected Oriented Javascript
Hi All I would like remind you of the twentieth first birds-of-a-feather (BOF 21) of the Java Web Users Group, taking part at the Skillmatters building, London, England on Tuesday 5th September 2006 FYI: http://www.jroller.com/page/javawug?entry=announcement_javabof_xxi_max_a ntoni The feature speakers: Max Antoni, Java Web Freelancer Software Developer How to write object oriented AJAX applications. Max Antoni is working at UBS as a freelancer. He is working on the front-end Java web development of an portal enterprise application. He will be cover AJAX development and how to write object oriented Javascript. In the last years Max have collected some best practices and he has lot of experience about how object orientation works in languages derived from ECMA Script, like todays Javascript implementations. Max started working with browser based applications in 2004 and soon came across the idea of writing his own Java based application server, suiting the needs of his own applications. This idea brought EvaServer to life (See http://www.maxantoni.de website is in German) and now he is working towards to release a version 1.0 by the end of this year. We are both working on the same development portal project at the prestiguous UBS Investment Bank and IMHO Max cooks really great AJAXified web user interfaces. [OT][ANN] JAVAWUG BOF XXI / 5th Sept 2006 @ 18:30 / SkillsMatter
Hi All I would like announce the twentieth first birds-of-a-feather (BOF 21) of the Java Web Users Group. The event will take place on Tuesday 5th September 2006, starting from 18:30 at Skills Matter Limited 1 Sekforde Street LONDON EC1R 0BE Map: mapPhone: 020 7107 2620 Fax: 020 7107 2621 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://skillsmatter.com/javawug The feature speakers: Max Antoni, Java Web Freelancer Software Developer How to write object oriented AJAX applications. Max Antoni is working at UBS as a freelancer. He is working on the front-end Java web development of an portal enterprise application. (Actually Max and I work together for the same project at 100 Liverpool Street. Max is actually heading back to Germany at the end of September, so I am grateful that he accepted my invitation to talk to usw) In the last couple of years Max have collected some best practices and he has lot of experience about how object orientation works in languages derived from ECMA Script, like todays Javascript implementations. He started working with browser based applications in 2004 and soon came across the idea of writing his own Java based application server, suiting the needs of applications. This idea brought EvaServer to life (See http://www.maxantoni.de website is in German) and now he is working towards to release a version 1.0 by the end of this year. During the two 1/2 years of developing Max gained valuable insight about browser internals and how best to represent client states on the server side [similar but counterpoint to DWR], which will also be part of the discussion/presentation. Afterwards members can retire to the nearby the ``Crown'' pub/restaurant for more in depth discussion dinner, food and drink ... [ANN] JAVAWUG : WebWork in Action The Lost MiniDV Patrick Lightbody BAY CHI
Hi I have recently recovered a MiniDV tape of Patrick Lightbody's presentation of ``WebWork / Struts 2.0 in Action'' at VeriSign's Mountain View office. I thought I had lost that first hour of tape on my travels to northern California, but I found it in the suitcase comparant, and then digitised it. He gave the talk on Monday night 15th May 2006 just before JavaONE this year. So I am really pleased to have it in its entirety ( 1 hour and 4 minutes) and it is virtually unedited and in verbatim. This is the first part of the talk here with Mike Van Riper and Don Brown of the Silicon Valley JUG performing master of ceromonies. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-82536075451338818hl=en-GB The second part already was uploaded a while back http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6908607645517853283hl=en-GB Enjoy Baby Bop :-D -- Peter Pilgrim UBS Investment Bank, PTS Portal / IT FIRC OPS LDN, 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2RH, United Kingdom :: Java EE / E-Commerce / Enterprise Integration / Development :: Visit our website at http://www.ubs.com This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named. [OT][ANN] Final Call: JAVAWUG BOF XX / Oracle City of London / 13th July 2006 @ 7pm
Hi We are holding our twentieth birds-of-a-feather (BOF 20) of the Java Web Users Group in London, UK. The speakers: Emmanuel, Okyere `` RIFE : The Java EE Petstore Edition'' Emmanuel has been hard at work convert the (in)famous J2EE Petstore application into RIFE. This is an opportunity to learn about RIFE and see what it is all about in comparison to a web frame work like Struts or Java Server Faces. RIFE is an innovative framework, for example the ``continuations'' part of it has been used in other Java web framework like the forthcoming Struts Framework 2.0. This is great chance to learn what other luminaries, e.g. Geert Bevin are doing in this web technology space. Peter Pilgrim `` Rearchitecting Legacy J2EE Applications with Spring '' This is talks presents hints and tips on using the refactoring core J2EE functionalities with the Spring Framework. In particular Peter will talk about refactoring legacy EJBs into Spring-EJB. He will advise how to manage those application context files. He will describe the best avenues to get your IT workshop to think about using and/or doing more Agile development techniques. For more information jump to here http://jroller.com/page/javawug . [OT][ANN] JavaONE 2006 Highlights
Hi All Here is the most recent video I uploaded to Google Video. Java ONE 2006 Highlights Days 1 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4414337915180627229 If you have never been to JavaONE it will give you a rough feel of this event. Featuring: Kenneth Russell, Romain Guy (Java 2D / JOGL / Mustang SE / Flickr - Google Maps Mash-Up ) A full demonstration of the famous AERITH application (This is probably more useful for Vik Cekvenich and his RiA ideas. But if you are considering WebWork and XWork as the back-end to drive your forthcoming rich internet application with Swing as the front-end then the you might look at this, ok) Gavin King SEAM Click and Hack-it Bros (Neil Gafter and Joshua Bloch, the Java Puzzlers ) Patrick Lightbody, Jason Careirra, and Don Brown (I think this was Day 2 footage that got merged up with the Day 1 tape) Anyway this was a short section of the TS 3682 talks with the Struts Action Framework demonstration. Essentially I captured the demonstration of the WebWork Freemarker syntax theming of the WebWork tags. etc Enjoy -- Peter Pilgrim ( Windows XP / Thunderbird 1.5 ) _ ___ + Expert Java __ /_ ___ ___ ____ /__ / + Enterprise ___ _ /_ __ `/_ | / / __ `/__ __/ __ __/ + Design / /_/ / / /_/ /__ |/ // /_/ / _ /___ _ /___ + Architecture \/ \__,_/ _/ \__,_/ /_/ /_/ + Web New Age On Line Resume || \\=== `` http://www.xenonsoft.demon.co.uk/no-it-striker.html '' - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[OT] Struts Users in London / meet+greet / pub / networking / BOF? / pre J1
Hi Are there any Struts user in or around London interested in meeting up one evening informally in a pub somewhere in central London (England of course) for a pint or two, talking about their web user interface experiences? I dont care if your experience is good or bad, beginner or expert, but I am rather interested in professional opinions about Struts user. But it doesn't have to be all abouts Struts. If you regularly use other frameworks like Tapestry / WebWork, then perhaps you can try to convince me. I'd like to find out more about the ORM debate Hibernate vs EJB 3.0 as well. I'd also like to find out more about Jython and RAD web server side development. Thoughts? BTW: I will be at Java One next month for the very first time so for me this would be good pre-amble BOF/. -- Regards Peter Pilgrim Struts/J2EE Development - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
