Yes, there shouldn't be a big problem upgrading from 6.0.0 to 6.1.2.1

Hi Team, Thank you.

May I check from core framework perspective, is it safe to say that more of the
features should work as usual if upgrade from 6.0.0 to 6.1.2.1 directly?
In our approach, we are directly applying Struts runtime via pom.xml in code
base and trying to fix issues 1 by 1at runtime.
I am not sure if this is advisible from Struts upgrade perspective especially
on vulnerbility fix standpoint.

Thank you.

Yes, it will work. Struts 1 uses org.apache.struts package while
Struts 2 (2.x, 6.x) uses org.apache.struts2

I would recommend using dual processor strategy here:

Thank you Dave.
As per our understanding 1.3.x to 2.0.x should be rewrite where most of the

How about further upgrading from 2.0.x to 6.0.x (aka 2.6.x)? Need some advice

Effort: unclear how anyone could guess. Depends entirely on codebase size,
architecture, scale reps, etc. TL;DR: you’llrewrite the entire web layer.
The *complexity* depends on how well separated the web and business layers in
the existing app are. The *time* depends on how much of it there is. You may
want to convert one piece at a time.

Impact: in what sense?

Approaches: pick an easy part and use it to gauge level of effort, in
particular comparing it to a non-S2 approach.

guess might provide a way to do the port incrementally, if it still exists.
But, in general, Struts1->2 is more of a rewrite than an upgrade.
So instead of running old and new in the same jvm, you could just run old and
new side-by-side, then "new" becomes completely unconstrained. For example, if
your team has higher velocity with tools familiar to them, is the business
process simple enough that you could build it quickly with those tools, perhaps
reusing (at least parts of) the business and/or dao layers, if the legacy code
was written well enough.

Good luck,
-Dale

RE: Urgent and priority help on Struts 1.3 upgrade to Struts 6.0

2023-06-04 Thread Krishnaraj Viswanathan
As you have probably already realised, Struts 1 to Struts 2 is a major upgrade.
The joke in our team was "the one thing that is common between the two versions
is the word Struts".

If the existing project is not very complex(I realise this is a relative term),
I would actually suggest designing and writing from the ground up with Struts
2. You would be able to reuse a good portion of the existing Struts1 code, but
by doing the basic designs with Struts 2, you would be able to leverage a lot
of new features from Struts 2. For large complex projects you might need to
code the Struts2 part around your existing Struts 1 code base, but please be
prepared for complete rewrite of whole classes.

PS: I would guess, based on transitive dependencies, if nothing else, that
anything still based upon struts1 is rife with vulnerabilities. I agree it
probably should be decommissioned, if just to eliminate the risks resulting
from those vulnerabilities. I would also look at this as an opportunity to
re-envision the business solution and build a modern, scalable replacement,
perhaps that provides even more capabilities to its users. Perhaps that

legacy technical debt and leverage modern tools to both simplify the

It looks like that your action execution fails inside the method you defined
for the action. You should look inside the invocation target exception
(through the get cause method) in order to investigate what is the really
cause.

.htaccess files (or "distributed configuration files")
provide a way to make configuration changes on a per-directory
basis. A
file, containing one or more configuration directives, is placed in a
particular document directory, and the directives apply to that
directory, and all subdirectories thereof.

you can specify an alternative file to handle your folder/subfolder
configuration via AccessFileName directive in httpd.conf
AccessFileName .config

With this piece of code, you are putting:
- the bean registered with the "Bformname" attribute name in thr "request"
scope
- in the page scope (that it is the default) with the attribute name "name".

Is it really what you want?

Have you configured the s2 for the static content,
you should consider that ajax theme's js/css/img files should be loaded
properly.

Have you looked at the generated sources or just the page is displayed as

Re: Urgent help with treeview

2007-07-30 Thread Session A Mwamufiya
I'm really losing my mind over this treeview. I've tried every example online,
but none of them give any walkthrough that can be followed to reproduce the
feature; there are always a number of unusable elements that require other
snippets of code that are not made available.

I checked out the dynamic tree view example in showcase, but there are
humongous gaps between what is displayed in the source and what would be needed
to make it work (only one out of the 4 or 5 actions is given, and we don't
anything about the Category object). I need something I can use.

There must be someone from apache on this forum; someone who wrote this
showcase example maybe? It's hard to believe that nobody has ever used a
treeview.

Please help,
Session

Have you looked at the examples in showcase? There is a tree there
that is populated on an action, all you would have to do is load the
data from your database, instead of returning static data as in the
example.

You're problem is that you're trying to embed a custom tag element
("c:out") as the attribute of a custom tag ("html:textarea"). You can't
do that.

You really need to have something that looks like this:

How you set up for this solution depends on whether you are using a JSP
1.2 or JSP 2.0 container.

If you're using a JSP 1.2 container, you can resolve this situation by
using the Struts-EL tag library. You'll need to change the taglib
directive for the "html" tag library to use the Struts-EL html tag
library (assuming you have that taglib jar in your WEB-INF/lib.

If you're using a JSP 2.0 container, and your web.xml file is using the
Servlet 2.4 schema, then you shouldn't have to do anything else.

Is it possible to do pre compilation for the JSPs using custom tags?

Sheetal,
I don't think there is any problem with network, because if you are able
to ping it, then it should connect also by your program but for this you
need the port number. You are also saying that smtp server is not on
your network but it is clear from the ip address that both are using
same VLAN i.e. "57". so leave it and check the port used by you mail
server.

RE: urgent- exception in sending e-mail from application

2006-06-15 Thread Sunil_Sahu
Sheetal,
I don't think there is any problem with network, because if you are able
to ping it, then it should connect also by your program but for this you
need the port number. You are also saying that smtp server is not on your
network but it is clear from the ip address that both are using same VLAN
i.e. "57". so leave it and check the port used by you mail server.

Re: urgent- exception in sending e-mail from application

2006-06-15 Thread Sunil_Sahu
Sheetal,

I think problem is with the port number only. Default port would always be
25 for the mail server and you are not specifying the any specific port
number in your program it means it will pick the default port number but
you should first check it with your network people that mail server uses
the default port i.e. 25 or some other port. If some other port then set
the port number also in your program.

Check it, I think it will definitely wotk for you.

Hello friends
I am trying to send mail from my application
Here is the code
Properties properties = System.getProperties ();
properties.put ("mail.smtp.host","smtp host name");

Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance
(properties,null);

Message message = new MimeMessage (session);
try
{
message.setFrom (new InternetAddress
("[EMAIL PROTECTED]"));
message.setRecipient (Message.RecipientType.TO,new
InternetAddress ("[EMAIL PROTECTED]"));
message.setSubject ("Hi ");
message.setText ("How is it going ?");
message.setSentDate (new Date ());
Transport.send (message);
System.out.println ("Message sent !!!");
}
catch (MessagingException e)
{
e.printStackTrace ();
}

But this code is giving me exception
javax.mail.MessagingException: Could not connect to SMTP host:
usncex10.ad.diebold.com, port: 25

2006-06-15 Thread Patil, Sheetal
Ye I can ping to host

Pinging smtp-host-name [IP] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from IP: bytes=32 time=361ms TTL=125
Reply from IP: bytes=32 time=323ms TTL=125
Reply from IP: bytes=32 time=326ms TTL=125
Reply from IP: bytes=32 time=252ms TTL=125

Ping statistics for IP:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 252ms, Maximum = 361ms, Average = 315ms

Your smtp server may require authentication. Find out and, if so, Add
the following lines to your code.

class MyAuthenticator extends Authenticator
{
protected PasswordAuthentication getPasswordAuthentication()
{
 PasswordAuthentication pa =
new
PasswordAuthentication(username,password);
return pa;
}
}

props.put("mail.smtp.auth", "true");
Authenticator a1= new MyAuthenticator();
Session mailsession = Session.getDefaultInstance(props, a1);

Your smtp server may require authentication. Find out and, if so, Add
the following lines to your code.

class MyAuthenticator extends Authenticator
{
protected PasswordAuthentication getPasswordAuthentication()
{
 PasswordAuthentication pa =
new
PasswordAuthentication(username,password);
return pa;
}
}

props.put("mail.smtp.auth", "true");
Authenticator a1= new MyAuthenticator();
Session mailsession = Session.getDefaultInstance(props, a1);

2006-05-25 Thread David Friedman
I'll chime in like everyone else plus give you alternatives:

Have you even looked at the DisplayTag documentation, live examples or
looked at the configuration information? The examples show the alternating
row css coloring is automatic (even[row]/odd[row] css styles) while the
configuration page on their site even mentions how to control those CSS
styles+classes and more. Also, if you have any trouble with DisplayTag you
can have some very similar functionality from ValueList:
http://valuelist.sourceforge.net (they also have a link to "Live Samples."

Hi Abhimanyu,

There are a question before I or I guess anyone on this list could be of
help.

1. How are you drawing the row in you table (i.e. JSTL's forEach tags or
something else)?

(see http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/jstl/1.1/docs/tlddocs/index.html for
informatio about JSTL's forEach)

If you are using JSTL's forEach tag here is some sample code:

RE: urgent

2006-05-25 Thread Chaudhary, Harsh
If you look at the HTML source of the file, you will see that the table
structure generated by DisplayTag by default looks something like:

The class is the key as it differentiates odd and even rows. Now all you
need is to write a CSS file which does what you want.

Harsh.

Hi
Window.onclose works with only IE. However, you can try unload event.

Refer the code snippet below
function onClose()
{

alert("Warning. You are closing the app!")
//do cleanup operations

}

window.onunload=onClose

The only solution to this is to ensure you have all the lastest patches and
then download Struts 1.2.4. Then just copy the jar and tld files over the
ones created in your web application when you generated the new project.

Hello, I have an urgent deadline to make with an application and I believe
the
problem deals with the classpath or project setup. Does anyone know how to
get
IBM Websphere Studio Application Developer 5.1.2 (WSAD) to work with Struts
1.2.4? Or how to load it in? Currently WSAD is only bundled with Struts 1.1.
(WSAD is an expansion of Eclipse). Thank you!

No, it's not. But it is incomplete. There are two ways of using
labels. The first is the inline method, as you demonstrated. The
second is using the FOR property, as the original code shows.

The FOR property is very useful when you want to put the and
 in different s.

I also have Jeff's question: why do you have a label for a hidden form
element?

This is wrong. The content model of LABEL includes all inline
elements, including form controls. A few paragraphs before your link
on W3.org, they include the following example:

   First Name

   Last Name

This demonstrates that labels can be implicitly associated with form
controls contained within the label element. As a sidenote, this is a
very useful construct that is *not* supported by IE. Even with the
form control contained within the LABEL element, the for attribute is
still required to associate the label with the form control.

As for why the label element is not visible in NS 6.2, I don't know. I
just tried the same code in FireFox, and it seemed to work fine. It
was probably a Netscape bug that has been fixed since 6.2. If I had
to guess, I would say that labels for hidden form elements were also
hidden.

 1) What do you see when you view source in the browser for both
Netscape and IE?
  2) What happens if you use an input type='text' instead of input
type='hidden'?
  3) Does it even make sense to have a label on a hidden form control?

Hi,
 Could you please tell me how to use label tag in struts. Label tag is
required in our application (deveice dependant users).

  This works fine in IE, but the label will not appear in Netscape 6.2

Building a web app without a pre-built, done ofr you framework?
It's kind of like the difference between going to the tire store and
buying a tire, as opposed to sticking a spigot in a rubber tree (or
however they get rubber these days), and building it yourself.
Then you get into what happens to those who come after you? The one
thing I hate doing is trying to figure out someonelses undocumented
framework. Where do you go for help? Who's responsible for fixing
it? Where does your client get your expertise if your not available?
If I'm not writing business specific code, I'm wasting my clients
money. I use other peoples well known and documented frameworks
whenever possible.

My definition of a good web site includes "No Javascript".

Yes.

1. Fetching the data from database into Action forms
and then building the page using Struts HTML taglibs.
:Can be done, but I doubt that Struts HTML is powerful

You can do those things with or without Struts.
You don't have to use the struts taglibs if you don't want to. It
makes a lot of things easier. You certtainly don't use the Struts
taglibs without a lot of supporting html.

2. Give away Struts and go for simple JSP-Bean based
architecture. JSP, Bean:Presentation[Controller will
be driven from database], Business classes to interact
with database:Modal, Database:MYSQL

Nah if you think thats viable you don't have a lot of experience
with Struts or JSP/Servlet development.

I'm using WSAD now at work. At home I use Eclipse 3.0 and My Eclipse and half
a dozen plugins. I find my home environment much more productive then WSAD in

The better alternative is to use container managed security, implementing JAAS.
 Tomcat supports this iirc in the 4.x series.

Re: Urgent Helppp needed

2004-12-21 Thread mohan.radhakrishnan

Hi,
 This looks like the business case for Struts modules. You could
check out the doc. related to the support for Struts modules.

1. Support for separate resource files.
2. You could use a single page ( for example a common 'Search' JSP ) across
modules if you want. This promotes reusability.
3. Separate struts config. files

Initially it was a bit tricky to set up the modules but the advantages are
worth it. The archives of the list shoud help too.

Also search the recent archives for the Sun blueprints recommendation for
directory hierarchy if you are going that way.

You should be able to put the

As Mark already mentioned, after the document was parsed,
the container had conflicting information on which Servlet

Please search the mail archives.
Also, make sure you have the appropriate .tld and .jar files
in place. Make sure you web.xml file corresponds to the
containers supported Servlet spec. Make sure you have
imported the appropriate taglibs into the page.

Hi all,
  I am using JBoss 3.2.4 with Struts 1.1
  All the actions are able to work correctly, but JSP pages
shows the tag itself instead of it's content, for ex:
The browser shows:
  ${CardControl.cardType}
instead of the actual content. I am sure that the JSP pages
are correct, since several ago they are fine, and the only
possible changes are configuration file or sth. else.
  Thanks!

	Your home electrical system is basically a bunch of wires that
bring electricity into your home and take if back out before it has a
chance to kill you. This is called a "circuit". The most common
home
electrical problem is when the circuit is broken by a "circuit
breaker"; this causes the electricity to back up in one of the wires
until it bursts out of an outlet in the form of sparks, which can
damage your carpet. The best way to avoid broken circuits is to
change
your fuses regularly.
	Another common problem is that the lights flicker. This
sometimes means that your electrical system is inadequate, but more
often it means that your home is possessed by demons, in which case
you'll need to get a caulking gun and some caulking. If you're not
sure whether your house is possessed, see "The Amityville Horror", a
fine documentary film based on an actual book. Or call in a licensed
electrician, who is trained to spot the signs of demonic possession,
such as blood coming down the stairs, enormous cats on the dinette
table, etc.
