qemu 1.2 is at least 3 years old and does not support -s, perhaps you can try
installing much newer version from EPEL or elsewhere.

You can try running Qemu 1.7 and it should work. There are many other reasons
why you want to run latest stable Qemu of 1.x family - including bug/security
fixes and performance improvements. If you want to stay on vendor supported
OS, you can also try running CentOS7 or EL7.

This can also be classified as bug as we dont satisfy much older qemu/kvm
versions. We probably need to check qemu-img for -s
parameter, and if it does not exists - execute without -s, or a more
meaningful error.

Perhaps you can help to file a bug on https://issues.apache.org/jira under
CloudStack project.

Hi Ugo,

This feature is working and I have been using it since version 4.2.x I think. I
am currently on 4.5.1 and this feature still works.

I suggest you inspect the management server logs to see what errors you get.
Schedule a snapshot and monitor the management server logs. You should have a
clue from the logs where your issue is.

Hi all,
I've installed a ACS 4.3 on Ubuntu and KVM as hypervisor agent, NFS primary and
secondary storage.
The management interface don't permit to schedule periodic volume snapshot.
Googoling, I find that is it possible to enable this feature on KVM hypervisor
by changing kvm.snapshot.enable in the Global settings.
I did that and now I can see news icon on volume detail of instances that allow
to setup recurring snapshot.
I scheduled a snapshot test but do not see it in any list.
Is this feature working? Where can I see if there is a problem?

thanks!

We use Freenas with ZFS also and it is notorious with NFS shares, we created
a dataset and shared on NFS and disabled sync option for this dataset from
ZFS, I forgot the command but it was something like zfs set sync=disabled
/tank/dataset something like that, it will fix it. This has really nothing
to do with cloudstack and xenserver which we use both...

RE: Expand LV over 2TB CS 4.3.1 Xenserver 6.2

2015-02-02 Thread Amin Samir
Hi Peter,

We have one xen server with 6 TB local LVM that is recognized by CS 4.3.1,
You will need to modify the storage.max.volume.size in global settings to be
able to create volumes more than 1 TB, when add the host / hypervisor to CS
it will show its local storage in primary storage, however you will have to
create a compute disk offering that uses local disk storage.

it's does not work now but I had already succesfully expand LV-s over 10TB

Actually I want to know, what will be happen, if I do it under CS's nodes.
Is the CS management server recognize new storage size, or may need to
upgrade the database too?

Are there anyone, who faced with this problem, and have experience?

Hi,

Following are couple of issues that have been logged to track this issue:

CLOUDSTACK-5395 - When backup snapshot fails because of backup.snapshot.wait
time exceeding , the vhd entries form the primary store is not getting cleared.

This bug was reopened to address - cleaning up of snapshot that errors out
from primary store and secondary store specific to KVM hypervisor.

 CLOUDSTACK-5446 - KVM-Secondary Store down-Even after secondary store is
brought back up after being down for few hours, snapshot jobs do not get
triggered with reason there is other active snapshot tasks on the instance to
which the volume is attached

Thanks

Hi,

You are trying to deploy a FreeBSD 10 instance right !
Try following the steps mentioned in the blog
http://shankerbalan.net/blog/freebsd-10-on-cloudstack-xenserver/

I think you are using the
FreeBSD-10.0-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.isohttp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-amd64/10.0/FreeBSD-10.0-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso
 to deploy VM.
Please give a try using
FreeBSD-10.0-RELEASE-amd64-bootonly.isohttp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-amd64/10.0/FreeBSD-10.0-RELEASE-amd64-bootonly.iso

So from here I.
Destroyed/Expunged all systemvm's
Removed the secondary storage in cloudstack rm -fr /mnt/secondary/* recreated
the secondary storage in cloudstack Pulled the systemvms back down using this
command:
$ sudo
/usr/share/cloudstack-common/scripts/storage/secondary/cloud-install-sys-tmplt
-m /secondary -u
http://download.cloud.com/templates/4.3/systemvm64template-2014-01-14-master-xen.vhd.bz2-h
xenserver -F

But still the systemvm's are at version 4.2

Next I manually hacked /etc/cloudstack-version to be 4.3 instead of 4.2 on the
router and I was able to deploy instances.
This is my only work around at the moment.

Is there a later version of the system VM's?
Or did someone forget to bump versions in /etc/cloudstack-version?
Or am I completely doing something wrong?

2014-04-29 Thread Amin Samir
It works for us on a lab environment,
Original environment is:
CentOs 6.5 (Management server)
Cloud Stack 4.2.1
Xen Server 6.1 latest patches

Target environment
CentOs 6.5 (Management Server)
Cloud Stack 4.3
Xen Server 6.2
Then upgraded to sp1
Then applied 1002, 1003, 1004 patches.

We will be upgrading our production environment within one month would keep you
posted if that helps.

Custom offering options does not allow you to migrate VM to other hosts

2014-04-23 Thread Amin Samir
Hello,

Has anyone used the new custom offering option in CS 4.3, when using it with a
VM and then trying to move this VM to another host the API does not allow you,
you have to either move it from the xen console or put the host to maintenance
mode.

Does anyone know why is that is it a bug? Or I did something wrong (xen tools
is installed on the VM).

RE: Custom offering options does not allow you to migrate VM to other hosts

2014-04-23 Thread Amin Samir
Hi Rajesh,

It is shared storage, and I have six hosts xen server 6.2 service pack and 1004
patch, cloud stack 4.3 (upgraded from 4.2.1 and 4.2.1 was upgraded originally
from 2.2.14), there is nothing in the log file as when I click in the UI it
does not produce the prompt where I select other available hosts, on the
contrary when I do the same with I pre-defined offering with other VM the icon
is clickable and it prompts me to move to another available host (same exact
environment however the only difference is the VM is created with pre-defined
offerings).

I will see if the management log file produces anything, however I doubt it.

My host's setup:

Secondary storage on NFSv4 – KVM hypervisor only – Management server installed

My physical network setup:
– 1 L2 switch with 3 different VLANs
– VLAN 2 for NAS (Primary storage on NFSv4) – VLAN 10 for guests public traffic
(there lives public IP addresses) – VLAN 100 for management traffic – VLAN 200
for guests traffic (there lives private IP addresses, so guests from different
clusters can interact with each other)

The approximate network setup schema is depicted here:

While setting up the first zone in administrator's UI I've faced with
difficulties in setting up my advanced network correctly. (For ex.
I've got this error Creating primary storage Something went wrong; please
correct the following: zone wide storage pool is not supported for hypervisor
type undefined, and so on)

As I'm newbie to CloudStack and virtualization I'm not clear enough for me how
CloudStack network should be setup in case I use multiple NICs and multiple
VLANs on L2 physical switch.

Could someone point me how should be setup my network for Zone1 with respect to
network schema as I showed above?

For education purposes, lets say we will use these networks:
– 77.12.34.0/24 (for Public)
– 10.10.10.0/24 (for zone's NAS – primary secondary storage) – 10.1.1.0/24
(for Guests VMs) – 10.10.12.0/24 (for management, if it required to be
different subnet)

As an answer to my question it would be awesome to get two things:

1) Content of /etc/network/interfaces (bridges and VLANs config in particular)

2) What should be entered on Step 3 – Setup Network (and substeps) in
CloudStack Administrator's UI?

Thanks in advance for helping!

Yes it is supported in new management server installation only, meaning if you
upgrade from an earlier cloudstack version you will have only upgrade path to
xen server 6.1, if you have a new cloud stack management installation then you
can have xen server 6.2 for the compatibility matrix check out the below table.

1) Replaced the failed hardisk, reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and ran

6) Removing the Host General Tab Tags by editing the tags and

7) Service cloudstack-management start, service cloudstack-usage start.

8) Reboot the system VM's

is this bug should be fixed ASAP and should be a blocker for any new

 Hi Andrei,

Do you have HA enabled and did you put that primary storage in maintenance
 mode before rebooting it?
It's my understanding that ACS relies on the shared storage to perform HA
 so
if the storage goes it's expected to go berserk. I've noticed similar
behaviour in Xenserver pools without ACS.
I'd imagine a cure for this would be to use network distributed
 filesystems like GlusterFS or CEPH.

RE: Nginx reverse proxy to cloud stack

2014-02-25 Thread Amin Samir
Hi Marty,

I have tried to restart the nginx, i did not yet enable the ssl , it is just
simple revere proxy from Nginx X back to cloud stack, and navigating to
http://amin.com.au/client will not work, because it still needs the 8080 port
in the URL.

The problem is that it fires up an API with /client/client/api, whilst it
should fire up /client/api, there is a duplication in the /client/client, which
I dont understand why.

simply what I am trying to do for now is to call amin.com.au from the web
browser to routed to http://localhost:8080/client via the Nginx reverse proxy
then authenticate and complete working with cloud stack management server.

Thanks in advance

Just to confirm, does navigating to https://amin.com.au/client/ load

  Hi Amin,

From first glance it seems that it could be related to your location
being '/' - although I personally haven't setup CS behind NGinx
  before.
Is there any improvement if 'proxy_pass http://localhost:8080;' is
used? This should make the paths be the 'same' - although it should
all be relative anyway - worth a try.

You may also be able to see if any web errors are occurring by
profiling network on most new browsers (F12).
Also is there anything obvious in your management logs?

Let us know how you get on,

RE: Nginx reverse proxy to cloud stack

2014-02-25 Thread Amin Samir
Hi Marty,
I might figured out what exactly I need, is a rewrite syntax to change
amin.com.au to amin.com.au/client, so whenever a browser hits the nginx with
amin.com.au it will change it to be amin.com.au/client

Thanks if you know how is this done.

Amin.

 Hi Marty,

I have tried to restart the nginx, i did not yet enable the ssl , it is just
simple revere proxy from Nginx X back to cloud stack, and navigating to
http://amin.com.au/client will not work, because it still needs the 8080 port
 in the URL.

The problem is that it fires up an API with /client/client/api, whilst it
should fire up /client/api, there is a duplication in the /client/client,
 which I dont understand why.

simply what I am trying to do for now is to call amin.com.au from the web
browser to routed to http://localhost:8080/client via the Nginx reverse proxy
then authenticate and complete working with cloud stack management server.

 Thanks in advance
 Amin

  Hi Amin,

The error shown should have hopefully been fixed by adjusting the
  proxy_pass, did you restart nginx?
Just to confirm, does navigating to https://amin.com.au/client/ load
fully but still result in a username/password incorrect (giving the
  error shown above)?

Could anyone help with the backup and

documentation only states to backup the cloud cloud usage
databases.

However any recommendation on
rebuilding the environment from scratch (in case of serious outage) steps
procedures, I am trying to make a DRP for the environment.

For instance:

Install OS, management server.
Initialize database, restore the
database.
Initiate cloudstack-setup command.
Etc..

Hello,
Two three paths that vhd-util needs to be in place.1)
/usr/share/cloudstack-management/webapps/client/WEB-INF/classes/scripts/vm/hypervisor/xenserver/xenserver60/
(depends on your xen server version you may want to place also under
/xenserver56FP1 or /xenserver56).
2) cd
/usr/share/cloudstack-common/scripts/vm/hypervisor/xenserver/xenserver60
(depends on your xen server version you may want to place also under
/xenserver56FP1 or /xenserver56).
3) On the xen server it self, /opt/xensource/bin.
Try destroying the system vm's they will be created automatically.

Try the vhd-util that the docs tell you to download. Put that one in
 /opt/xensource/bin

Public network is 10.0.0.0/5 tagged vlan 50 (not real IP's)4) Management Server
is Ubuntu 12, Cloudstack is 4.2, Xen Server 6.2 (open vswitch mode)
Port forward is working fine and can access the vm's from outside networks,
however can not access internet from vm's, logged in to the system virtual

And verified the vlan's functionality with different physical virtual
environments.

This looks like a bug . Please report the issue in issues.apache.org with DB
schema before upgrade and management server logs.

 Hello,
I am new to cloudstack and I have an assignment to upgrade a current
production environment from 2.2.14 to 4.2, I follow the exact 4.2 release
documentation and then the upgrade fails the output of the log file states
 the following:

Duplicate column name 'hypervisor_version' Unable to execute upgrade
 script: /usr/share/cloudstack-management/setup/db/schema-2214to30.sql
System integrity check failed. Refuse to startup

Could anyone help please with the aforementioned issue?
I am also not sure how to collaborate with the team is it the right way to
send an inquiry mail to users@cloudstack.apache.org? or there are other ways
 to ask questions?

 Hi,

I have observed Duplicate column name 'hypervisor_version' only when I
tried to restart the Management server second time which was failed to start
for the first time soon after upgrade .

 Analysis :

The first script that gets executed during 2.2.14 to 4.2 is
 /usr/share/cloudstack-management/setup/db/schema-2214to30.sql . In this
sql script , the first sql stmt is :

 ALTER TABLE `cloud`.`host` ADD COLUMN `hypervisor_version` varchar(32)
 COMMENT 'hypervisor version' AFTER hypervisor_type;
 ==

There is a possibility that the schema-2214to30.sql got executed already
during the first attempt of upgrade. This would have created
hypervisor_version column which resulted duplicate entry failure during
 second attempt.

Can you please check for Exceptions which were logged during first attempt of
 upgrade.

 Thanks ,
