Guest networking issue

2016-08-08 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi Hope someone can help me on this

 Below is my env

a) CloudStack 4.9 on CentOs 7.2,
b) running on 2 compute nodes and one controller node
c) NFS as shared storage primary and secondary
d) Basic networking
f) Hosts, Guests, system VMs and NFS storage are in same IP range

I can create VMs and from UI I can see Guests are getting IPs assigned

 1. when the instance boots up it has no IP assigned (ip addr show
shows no IP). But I have to do dhclient for the guest to get configured.

 2. Even though instance gets an IP after running dhclient, I am unable
to reach no further than the host that the instance are in. All the routes
are in place. I have created Security Group with allow all to this guest
still no luck

please let me know if you need any additional information

Best Regards

Re: Guest networking issue

2016-08-09 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi, all this time I was using an ISO to install Centos on a vm but I used

CentOS-7-x86_64-GenericCloud-20140917_02.qcow2
<http://172.16.10.50/c-share/CentOS-7-x86_64-GenericCloud-20140917_02.qcow2>
image and
it works, it acquires IP and routing function properly

What do I have to do to get the ISO installation to do this

Secondary storage is not secondary properly

2017-08-07 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi, I am setting up a test platform CloudStack 4.9 and intigrate with
Vmware. All things was fine till I dashboard it shows the capacity of
Secondary storage as 0.00Kb/0.00Kb. When I try to register a ISO logs shows
"Image store doesn't has enough capacity, so skip downloading template to
this image store 1" message

# df -h gives me below output where the nfs share is located

/dev/xvdb150G 6.6G 41G 15% /share

Can any one let me know what is going on, I have tried adding NFS as well
as samba all shows 0/0Kb.

NFS is running on a different server, I can manual mount this share as NFS
and SMB
Cloud stack - 4.9
Os is Centos 7 (64)

I am sorry for the duble post as I was registered under an alious
(preciously my mail)

Thanks and Regards

Hi Makrand thank you for replying, please see below for the rest results

* Make sure that it's accessible from the *storage* network (the network
that you configured as storage when you created the zone, assuming you
selected advanced networking).
Asanka > Since this is a test environemt I have just made it all in one
subnet (is that the issue)

* Is the secondary storage virtual machine up and running? Check your
Infrastructure tab.
Asanka > Yes both system VMs are up and running

* If the secondary storage virtual machine is up and running, open its
console and log in as root / password. Then check 'ip addr list' to make
sure that it has IP addresses.
Asanka > Yes it IP are assigned

* If it has IP addresses, try pinging your secondary storage NFS server
(still within the SSVM).
Asanka > I can ping secondary storage

* If you can ping your secondary storage NFS server, try mounting the NFS
share at some random place in your filesystem to make sure you can mount it
from the SSVM. e.g., 'mkdir /tmp/t; mount myserver:/export/secstorage
/tmp/t'

Hi Dag, pleas give me few days as I am on an implementation visit to a

1. Ping from ssvm to NFS is possible
2. Manually mounting NFS to /tmp/secondary is possible without any Issy

>From the previous run of the ssvm check it is looking for a serve IP

OK , can you post up the results of the ssvm check again?

As suggested previously on this thread – can you try to
1) Ping the NFS server from the SSVM (SSVM check does this as well) – if
this doesn’t work then you have a networking issue.
2) Depending on ping - manually mount the secondary NFS share on your SSVM.
If this doesn’t work then you need to investigate the logs at the NFS end
to see why the NFS handshake fails.

setting – since the SSVM didn’t know where to contact management I would
guess it used a default override.

From the previous run of the ssvm check it is looking for a serve IP

I will run the check again on the first chance I get

As suggested previously on this thread – can you try to
1) Ping the NFS server from the SSVM (SSVM check does this as well) – if
this doesn’t work then you have a networking issue.
2) Depending on ping - manually mount the secondary NFS share on your
SSVM.
If this doesn’t work then you need to investigate the logs at the NFS
end
to see why the NFS handshake fails.

system VMS to running state. Will it give me the option to destroy? If so
what would be the database relation?

Hi Dag, restart did not work but updating the tables initiate the
recreation of the system VMs. But it does not give me the chance to restart
cloudstack server, as soon as destroy the VMs it starts the VM recreation.
Is there a way to stop this behaviour

Re: Secondary storage is not secondary properly

2017-08-18 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi Eric,

SSVM can access my nfs and I an manual mount :(

This "s-397-VM:/# grep com.cloud.agent.api.SecStorageSetupCommand
/var/log/cloud.log" did not produced any output, but found below error

>From the VM's /var/log/cloud.log:
ERROR [cloud.agent.AgentShell] (main:null) Unable to start agent: Resource
class not found: com.cloud.storage.resource.PremiumSecondaryStorageResource
due to: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
com.cloud.storage.resource.PremiumSecondaryStorageResource

I used cloudstac from http://www.shapeblue.com/packages/ and the SSVM
template from
http://cloudstack.apt-get.eu/systemvm/4.6/systemvm64template-4.6.0-vmware.ova

Do you think I need to use http://packages.shapeblue.com/systemvmtemplate/

If it so how can I replace an existing SSVM template?

Sorry to be of a asking these question, I am new to this setup

Thank you and Best Regards

Re: Secondary storage is not secondary properly

2017-08-22 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi Guya, I tried replacing the template but did not work, Java process or
the NFS worked. Since this is a lap environment for a migration, guess its
best to try from scratch!

SSVM
1. Java process is not starting
2. NFS is not mounting and it is looking for for the IP 172.17.101.1 which
ic my Gateway where nfs server is 172.17.101.253

Console Proxy VM
1. JavaProcess Running
2. NFS is not mounting but it is looking for an ip 255.255.255.255 :(

Its wired!! Any how I will try to do the reset of the database and ESXi
server and try again. Will keep you posted on the things

Thanks and Regards

VPC across multiple hypevisors

2017-10-15 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi Guys, is there a way to do a VPC across multiple hypervisors

Thanks and Regards

Asanka

Re: VPC across multiple hypevisors

2017-10-15 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Thanks for the reply Makrand

We have a requirement, where we need to have Database on Vmware Esxi and
Application server On Xen. I am Applisuer using routing we can connect
these two together. But is it possible to create a single VPC combining
these two environments or just to extend the Database VPC to application
server.

Thanks adn regards

Enabling local-storage for Guest VMs

2017-11-01 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi I need to enable local-storage for guests that dont need HA or VM move,
if I follow below will there be any advers effect (I have already created
the Zone)

1. In Global Setting change use.local.storage = true and do a restart
2. Create a new offering with local storage

Cloudstack 4.10
Hypervisor - ESXi 5.5 (Vmware)

Thanks and Regards

Asanka

Hi All, in the global setting I am unable to find this particular option
(use.local.storage) but system.vm.use.local.storage is set to fals, which
is fine.

Thanks and Regards

Hi All, when I go to

Service offerings > Compute Offering > Add compute offering

In the Add Computer Offering dialogue box, when I pull-down on the option
"Storage type" it gives me two options.

a) Shared
b) Local

Is this mean, by default local storage is enabled for Guest VMs?

Thanks and Regards

Unable to access guest

2017-11-07 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi All, I have a VMware environment managed by Cloudstack 4.10. Initially I
had a single cluster with two nodes and one VDS. This set-up
works fine! Then I created a second cluster under same
datacenter with just one node and the same VDS spans across both cluster1
and cluster2.

I can create guest VMs through CloudStack with out any issue and CloudStack
assigns IP address with out any issue. And still cluste1 works fine while
cluster2 guests dont have network access (hence not getting the ip that was
assigned by CloudStack). I tried statically configuring the IP to guest
this did not helped either.

I think it is something to do with VDS but I am not sure where to start

Thanks and Regards

Asanka

Unable to access guest VM console from internet, behind irewall

2017-11-13 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi my cloudstac setup is behind a firewall (Nated) I am able to access the
portal by nating 8080 to an public up. and all works fine but but when I
click on a console of a guest VM it is looking for the internal ip (the
range I specified as public while creating the Zone)

What are the ports that I need to nat out or how to fix this

Thanks and best regards

Hi Dag, thank you for replying, I noticed the same issue from backend
(vSphere) by installing vmware tools it went away. But coming to the point
where you can install vmware tools was bit of a nightmare. Both Suse and
windows 2012 was exhibiting the same problem contrary to Centos.

Is there a way to get this working during installation

Just some information, public ip of the proxy VM is 172.17.101.230, and the
browser is looking for this IP instade of actual nated ip. if I can map
this to a name I should be able to use that internally and externally how
can I go about doing this and is this a good idea?

Disaster recovery for guests

1. Does CloudStack has any ways of doing Disaster Recovery for Guest VM? or
do I need to rely on third-party product?
2. How does a fail-over keeps the IP consistence

Re: Unable to access guest

2017-11-17 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi Paul, thank you for the reply

yes it is Vmware Distributed Switch

During the zone creation as VLAN range I have given 106 to 150, and I have
trunked 106 to 150 range between all three nodes and ACS, all 3 nodes are
pat of the same DVS.

Communication between guests in the same cluster is just fine the problem
starts once I start to reach out to the guests on the cluster2 (on the same
VDS)

does Management node or cCenter server need to see FC network

2017-12-15 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi All, we are at the last stages of a proposal and was proposing iSCSI but
this got changed to FC (Primary Storage). Where I am stuck is, does CS
management node or vCenter server needs to see the FC network?

Thanks and Regards

As far as I can remember, no - CloudStack does not need to see the
storage network, it will get it's information from vcenter, which in
turn will get its information from the compute nodes.

Reinstall VM

2017-12-19 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi, can you reinstall a VM using ISO image, I dont see a place to change
the boot order

Thanks and Regards

Re: Reinstall VM

Hi Makrand, in the end that's what I did. This is fine when I am to do the
re-installation I can always go to the backend and do some thing and get it
working. But if a customer needs to do the same, where he/she do not have
access to backend. At least to change the boot order would be nice! or is
it the default behaviour to boot from removable media first? wich is
acceptable too!

Thanks and Regards

Re: Reinstall VM

2017-12-20 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi Makrand, planning on giving access to customers to provision them self,
but it is in POC state, currently though. Found the issue why it was
starting off the HD, though I have attached the ISO the time it takes for
vMWare to connect the image is too long, by that time the VM has already
started the boot process. By increasing the boot delay from vMWare side I
was able to boot off the iso. If that does not works you can always press
esc and access the boot menu and select CDrom, once the connection is made

Thanks and Best Regards

IP assignment

2018-01-13 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi any one can help me to understand the IP assignment in advance
networking its kind of confusing. Below is a small diagram as to what I
understand. Most of the confusion is at public network and system VMs.

Is it correct, as long as routing is done properly, or can some one point
me to a document that I can read in this kind of scenario, goggled
documents did not help much.

Re: IP assignment

2018-01-21 Thread Asanka Gunasekara
Hi Ben, thank you for the reply! I am sorry for the ambiguity of my
question, I am just trying to understand the network configuration and ip
assignment, where finding rather confusing! Hope below will answer to your
question.

Basically I am trying to integrate Cloudstack with vSphere (currently
running a POC where there are some issues related to networking) and the
offerings going to be as VPC and isolated networks using VLANs.

Best Regards
