[libreoffice-users] Paypal phishing warning
Sorry for the cross-post, and off-topic at that, but: This morning I received a very authentic looking email from info.paypal.com, claiming that Paypal wanted me to update my browser. (Really.) It had my name in it and all the right graphics and colors and everything. Except that the from site was info.paypal.com (whoever they are: hint - not paypal.com) and the links all had long obfuscated links in them. I verified with paypal that it was not legitimate, so I though you might all be warned as well. (frame1 and frame2 are now linked) Select the 2nd frame Click on the link frames button. Click on the 3rd frame. (frame2 and frame3 are now linked) To test that the 3 frames are correctly linked: Click inside frame1 and start typing some text (you may need to resize the frame a little) As you keep typing, the text spills over into frame2. Sorry, but there is an easy solution. You just needed to make sure the en_GB language pack is installed before the en_GB help pack is. There is a need to match the language packs and help packs. As for deleting the whole thing, I have not found it to be a problem as you think it is. 3.4.0 is for early adopters. 3.3.x are for the users that do not want to try the most cutting edge version. I am sorry you feel that way about LibreOffice. We ALL have our personal opinions about what is the best software to use. Right now, the tech magazines have printed/posted articles that seems to say that LibreOffice is the best Open Source Software on the market today. That is their opinions based on what they experience from their testing process and other use-based information. I like LibreOffice better than OpenOffice.org, and much better than Microsoft Office. [libreoffice-users] Base Forms/Reports and Web/Print Layout
Hello, I've developed an application in LibreOffice Base. After updating to 3.4, I'm having a problem with the settings for print versus web layout. In 3.3, forms and reports could be independently set to use either web or print layout. However the form/report was set during design was how it remained. Now in 3.4, it seems this has become a global setting where all forms and all reports use either web or print layout across the board. So, I spent a day figuring out that on opening my database I can open a form in design mode, set the view to web layout, via macro, and then everything comes up in the way I designed it. But, then my reports come up in web layout as well, and they need to be in print layout. Has anyone else experienced this problem or found a work around? Will the layout settings be permanently changing to a global type setting for everything? Of course, I could add code to all my reports to first open them in design mode and change to print layout, but then I would also have to code to go back to web layout after the report ran because otherwise all my forms would then come up in print layout. Thanks for your help. After dicussing the problem, I am not sure how the EPS images ever worked, perhaps they had embedding that was stripped somehow. Of course, using the embedded raster image completely defeats the purpose of using vector artwork in the first place. Most of the programs I use for vector artwork can produce EPS or SVG files just fine, but being able to properly display some sort of vector artwork in impress seems critical to me. [libreoffice-users] Pasting with mouse in calc with Linux inserts an object, not the data
Hi, we are currently running libreoffice-3.3.1.2 in SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11. I'm not sure when it started exactly, but I think sometimes between OpenOffice 3.0 and 3.2, we discovered the following change: Before when marking some cells in a calc spreadsheet with the left mouse key and inserting it with the middle mouse key at some different place in the spreadsheet just inserted the content of the cells. After OpenOffice 3.2 and now in libreoffice 3.3 not the data is inserted, but a spreadsheet object, i.e. another small spreadsheed inside the main spreadsheet. This doesn't make any sense as pasting with the middle mouse key is standard in Linux and also works e.g. in writer documents. With Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V the copy and paste works as expected, but with left-mouse/middle-mouse key we get this strange object. I haven't found a way to change that. Is the behaviour configurable somehow? Or is it a bug? cu, Frank -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Pasting-with-mouse-in-calc-with-Linux-inserts-an-object-not-the-data-tp3043792p3043792.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org In case of problems unsubscribing, write to postmas...@documentfoundation.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Re: [libreoffice-users] help package installation failure
Tom Like I implied before, the problem I faced with en_US on .deb version was the same error. All I had to do was install the en_GB language pack and then install the en_US help pack to get it to work. It makes sense for the en_GB language pack to be installed before the en_GB help pack, but I did not know why it was needed for my .deb en_US help pack to work. Yet it showed the same dependency error. You would think you would not need the en_GB language pack for the default English install and the en_US help pack since there is not en_US language package. So the error is not anything to do with the the infamous rpm dependency hell, but the need to install the packs in the proper order, and knowing which ones are needed as well. Sorry, my description was not very precise and indeed not correct because I got confused when reproducing it before writing the post: The problem only happens with two instances of libreoffice running on different PCs. Copying and pasting cells withing the same spreadsheet works as expected on both the local and the remote instance of libreoffice. Copying by marking with the left mouse key in the local instance and pasting with the middle mouse key in the remote instance (or vice-versa) inserts the marked cells as object. The thing which confused me is that after pasting and getting an object in the remote spreadsheet, immediately pasting with the middle mouse key in the local spreadsheets inserts the content as object, too. That's why I thought it would happen within one spreadsheet, too, but that's only after pasting to a remote instance of libreoffice. Copying and pasting between two spreadsheets which are both running on the local PC or both running on the remote PC works as expected, too. Only copying/pasting between to spreadsheets running on different computers results in the data being inserted as object. Of course, using the embedded raster image completely defeats the purpose of using vector artwork in the first place. At least on older versions -- don't know if this still applies -- OOo would generate a preview if the image had no raster preview, but as that involved a funny bug involving endless calls to ImageMagick's convert when the raster previews were too big to be cached, maybe that was disabled. A quick test with a random EPS I found shows me a preview raster, with LibreOffice 3.3.2 OOO330m19 (Build:202) tag libreoffice-3.3.2.2 But I don't know if the image has a preview raster builtin. IIRC they have some issues (or maybe the metafiles I was using were badly converted). But you can try converting your EPS to EMF and see if the result is good enough. I've some notes around here saying it's done with pstoedit, with the option to generate EMF. The same notes mention running fixps, generating svg with pstoedit and converting back to eps with inkscape -- this was probably a workaroud for some postscript files that pstoedit didn't like. -- Nuno J. Re: [libreoffice-users] help package installation failure
Thank you Marc for saying that [below]. The last time I had to rebuild a Windows computer, I had to spend 12+ hours installing all 200+ updates that was needed to get the OS up-to-date. Yes, not any software works 100% the first time you use it. It takes work to fix anything you did not think of. Each person and system will find things that were not working properly on their systems BUT was working properly on the testing system. It is much easier to write a package that would be used on one system by a limited user base. That one system was what Mac did for all those years. Windows users and Linux users have used so many different hardware combinations, well things do not work well on every one. The same for users. We each have different needs and use the software differently. We may find an error that would never be found by a tester since that person did not try the way you, me, or others, decide to use the software. LO works well for me. It works well for others. Yes there are problems being worked on. Yes sometimes there are issues that can be frustrating. It was the same for me with office software before MS Office 95 came into being. It was the same with MSO 97, 200, 2003. It was the same with OpenOffice.org. It is the same with LO. I find that LO works better for me than any other office package that I have access to. The package is free. The people who are developing the code and fixing the bugs do not get paid for their work. They freely donate their time and skill doing things others would demand big money for. Nothing is perfect. But LO is free and it works well. 3.3.x works well and is stable. 3.4.0 is for those who want to try the cutting edge version of the software. I say thanks to everyone who have worked on making LO the best package it can be. If someone has any problems with this, well remember this email list is for solutions to problems and not ranting and raving on how bad you feel it is. On 06/09/2011 10:04 AM, Marc D. But as Cor said there are new features and fixes so trying to kep constantly updated can be interesting. So right now, your document looks like this: office http://somerandomsuperlongURLthatdoesnhttp://somerandomsuperlongurlthatdoesn/ ' tmattersomerandomsuperlongURLthatdoesn'tmattersomerandomsuperlongURLthatdoesn' tmatter.com/ The URL is too long to fit completely on the first line. So if you typed out this URL character by character, Libreoffice Writer will move the entire URL to the second line as soon as you reached the end of the first line! I don't want this to happen. I want whatever fits on the first line to stay on the first line. So for example, it might look like this: office http://somerandomsuperlongURLthatdoesnhttp://somerandomsuperlongurlthatdoesn/ 'tmattersomerandomsuperlongURLthatdoesn'tmat tersomerandomsuperlongURLthatdoesn'tmatter.com/ Is it possible to set Libreoffice Writer to do this? I know it's not default behavior, but there are situations where I don't want to start a URL on a completely new line just because it won't completely fit on the line that it started on. Please help. Thanks! Turn off the Autocorrect -- FormatAutocorrect and uncheck the box for while typing. That fixes a lot of formatting issues I have seen crop up in my typing. This may help with yours. Also, you might want to look into the Autocorrect options in that menu as well. There is an URL option there. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@global.libreoffice.org In case of problems unsubscribing, write to postmas...@documentfoundation.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-users] Bullets with different outline levels
Hi, I am trying to make a nice style sheet with bullets at different outline levels, and with each outline level at a different indentation. The indentation just won't work out, whatever I try. Here's what I did: Created a paragraph style 'CV Bullets' Made its indent 7.4mm In 'Outline Numbering', I put the numbering style on 'List 1' and the Outline level at 'Body text', and also tried 'Level 1'. In the list style 'List 1', I defined different bullets for different outline levels. That works fine. Then, under the 'Position' tab, I tried to change the alignment of the different outline levels. Doesn't work. The Bullets indent at 7.4 mm and the text of each list item follows some indentation law that I don't understand. Tried to define different paragraph styles ('CV Bullets 1', 'CV Bullets 2', etc.) and link them to different outline levels in list 1 ('CV Bullets 1' has Outline level 1 in 'Outline Numbering', 'CV Bullets 2' has level 2, etc.). No success, all kinds of things happen, but not the indentation is not what I specified in the 'List 1' style. The only thing that appears to work is to strip all paragraph styles from the list and then apply outline levels. But this means I cannot control the paragraph style of my lists anymore. Result: Frustration *gna gna gna* The online documentation that I could find is very rudimentary. Any ideas? Did I overlook something or are LibreOffice lists just confusing? The ideal solution is to adjust your word wrap settings in the Format - Wrap menu to turn off word wrap. As an alternative, you can insert a space in the middle of the link to keep that portion of the link on the first line. So in your example, type the text and full url and press enter. LibreOffice will convert the url to a hyperlink and it will wrap to the next line. Then find a good breaking point in the link where you want everything before that point to be on the first line, and click to place your cursor between the two characters. Then insert a space. The portion of the link before the space will move to the previous line. If you intend for your reader to click on the link from within the document, right-click on the part of the link on the first line and choose edit hyperlink and be sure the url is correct.
