Thanks for checking.

Then it's a regression (one of many between 3.3.4 and 3.4.x) and you
should note that on 40421. I'd also add your drawing file to that bug so
that they can test directly (obscure bits if you don't want them
included - although you included all the info in the jpg's so it
shouldn't matter at this point).

Possibly it is good that you see the results first. Then, if you are
interested, then you can read about how to generate the results.

On a command line, you will type the following:

python3.2 find_nonshared_words.py

(You can also type "python2.7" instead of "python3.2". But realize that
Python 3.2 is not always backwards-compatible with Python 2.7.)

This command will generate the following output file:

output_file.txt:
a1
a2
a3
a4
a5
a6
b1
b2
b3
b4

Below, I show you how to create the results:

Create the following two input files. (Words starting with "a" appear in
only file 1. Words starting with "b" appear in only file 2. Words
starting with "c" appear in both files, and should be ignored by the code.)

input_file1.txt:
a1
a2
c1
a3
a4
c2
a5
c3
a6

input_file2.txt:
c1
b1
b2
b3
c2
c3
b4

Then create a file called find_nonshared_words.py:

def create_set_from_file(input_file_name):

input_file = open(input_file_name)

s = set()
for line in input_file:
# Delete any leading or trailing whitespace.
s.add(line.strip())

input_file.close()

return s

set1 = create_set_from_file("input_file1.txt")
set2 = create_set_from_file("input_file2.txt")
set_of_words_in_exactly_one_file = set1.symmetric_difference(set2)

output_file_name = "output_file.txt"
output_file = open(output_file_name, "w+")
for word in sorted(set_of_words_in_exactly_one_file):
output_file.write(word + "\n")

output_file.close()

Thanks for the report of the error. This is a good place to put it if
you have not signed up for the documentation or web site lists. I will
forward this on to the web site list.

It is easy to turn any document into RTF but you never know what will show
up in another editor.

In any case let me make it clear that ODF has the same problem.

I'm not saying ODF is superior to RTF (except that RTF is mostly/completely
abandoned and ODF is under development). I meant that if you are going to
use LibreOffice that is the best file format to use because it is what the
program uses internally. All other formats are converted to ODF at opening
and back at saving.

[libreoffice-users] 98,000+ word list British dictionary, hyphen, thesaurus dictionary

2011-11-07 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

Here is a British English dictionary with 98,000+ word list, hyphen, and
a thesaurus that is used for en_GB, en_US, and en_CA. I thought our
British users might like a 98K word list dictionary better than one with
over 217K words in it.

Please look at it and see what you think. The default English
dictionary has a 50K word list for en_GB but no thesaurus for it. If
any of you would like to have it with the 390K or the 638K range of word
lists, let me know and I will make up a version for you. I do have the
words lists already.

Also, for our Canadian English friends, I will be putting out a Canadian
English version[s] of my dictionaries. I do not have a 98K word list
for en_CA, but I do have the 50K, 217K, 390K, and 638K range word lists.

http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/add-on-dictionaries-large-list/kpp-british-english-dictionary-98k-word-list.oxt

I would like to place my versions of the English dictionaries on to the
Extension Center this month, instead of having them listed only from one
of my pages. American English, British English, and Canadian English.
I would like to have several size of word lists for each, but all
include hyphen and thesaurus controls. I would like to find an Oxford
English word list [en_GB-oed], but for now the original one with 47K
will have to do for those who require the "Oxford" version of modern
English.

Please let me know what you think about my larger word list
dictionaries, on the lists or off.

[libreoffice-users] Move word / Control + Arrowkeys works differently than expected

2011-11-07 Thread GaslampPanzershrimp
It seems like how libreoffice handles the control + arrow key keyboard
shortcut has changed from how I'm used to using it.

Pressing control + left arrow works as expected (skipping to the next
"beginning of word" to the left. The cursor moves a word to the left.
However, control + right arrow works in a way that's different, and less
useful.

Instead of moving to the next "end of word" to the right (as I expected it
to), it skips to the next "beginning of word" to the right.

While this is almost the same, there's one instance which is very
interesting.

The most irritating use case control + right arrow key is when I want to
move the cursor (pipe symbol) from

"Lorem |ipsum.

Dolor sit amet. "

to
"Lorem ipsum.|

Dolor sit amet. "

Instead, it moves to

"Lorem ipsum.

|Dolor sit amet. "

This is particularly irritating when it skips across a pagebreak, images, or
multiple newlines.

Is there a plugin to alter this functionality? I've tried searching, but
unfortunately either it doesn't exist or I can't seem to figure out good
enough keywords to turn up anything.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LO 3.4.3 Writer cannot handle RTF document

2011-11-07 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I think the best bet is to start a fresh document and copy&paste the contents
of the old document into it and save as "Odt". You will find that is radically
smaller than you expect and gets rid of a lot of the kludgy mess of hidden code
stored in the document.

Once you have an Odt that you can edit as the original document you can then
use "Save As .." to use formats that other people might prefer. Odt is
becoming very much more popular and usage has risen dramatically even in the
last few weeks let alone the last year.

Rtf is not plain text. It was built by Microsoft as a proprietary format.
Although they kept claiming it was open for any other program to use they kept
restricting access to upgrades for it until they had been able to incorporate
those upgrades into their own programs. Also when developing it they were not
hugely interested in the needs of other programs and seemed to be pushing
people into buying their product rather than being able to use other people#'s
programs. The main MS format was Doc so Rtf never really got the attention it
deserved as most of the development effort went into Doc instead. MS are
ceasing to develop it at all now and are likely to phase it out in order to
push people into their new "Open" format, DocX which can only really be read by
MS Office again as they again don't really stick to their alleged specs that
are published for other people to use. It is interesting to see that DocX
created in MS Office 2010 doesn't always
 display properly in MS Office 2007 so people are forced into keeping on buying
the newer products.

Rtf doesn't contain all the private data and ancient revision history of a
document in the way that Doc tends to. However, it does still contain a lot of
kludgy mess. Just try opening it with a text-editor.

Odt and other OpenDocument Formats, such as the spreadsheet one and the
presentation one are developed by OASIS which is a conglomeration of many
different companies including IBM, Google, TDF. Apache (previously Sun) and
many others that want to be able to develop good products and exchange
documents easily without relying on Microsoft's benevolence in allowing them to
compete with a core profit-making product produced by MS.

Regards from
Tom :)

From your video I think you need to click "Importa" and go from there.

Hi :)
If you click the link in tis email or navigate to the right thread in Nabble
then you can upload the file. Just click on
Reply - "More options" - "Upload a file"

Please try to make sure it doesn't have any personal info and if it's
confidential don't upload it at all.

Out of curiosity are you using Windows or Mac or something else? Sometimes
it's possible to find a back-up of your document in the back-ups folder in
your user-profile
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426
However i think the default for LibreOffice and OpenOffice is to not save
defaults.

Have you emailed the document to anyone? Is it on a usb-stick or Cd/dvd
somewhere? It might be possible to find a fairly recent copy of the
document somewhere if you are lucky. Sometimes it is just faster to start
again. A lot of the decisions or fiddly things you did first time lurk in
your subconcious so that a document that took a few hours to create might
only take 20mins to re-create.

Tom :)

If I need to send documents to others, I use plain text, where I might add
some *bold* or _underscore_ "tags", but nothing more. Files are small and
everyone can read plain text!

Actually, other than the fact that LibreOffice cannot read (some) RTF
correctly, its implementation of an RTF writer is absolute, excusez-le-mot,
Sh*te, with a capital S! It doesn't do any factoring of tags, and the
documents it produces are humongous.

An example?

I have a program that processes my, don't laugh, hitchhiking data. (Yes, at
the age of 51 I still hitchhike, see http://hitchwiki.org/community/prino/ )
It optionally outputs the files in RTF format (it dates back to the early
1990'ies, i.e. well before OO & LO) All of the resulting RTF files contain
the absolute minimum of tags and one has a size of just 299kb, a mere 26kb
more than the plain text file.

M$ Word was already bad, blowing it up to around 330kb, but LO Writer
completely takes the piss by saving it as a 1.1Mb RTF file, and looking at
it makes you wonder why Writer adds the same set of completely irrelevant
tags over and over and over (and over and over ad nauseam) again.

As an aside, the fact that it's very easy to turn plain text into RTF using
about any editor and/or simple scripts is a big advantage that RTF has over
ODF, try making an ODT file on IBM's z/OS...

Re: [libreoffice-users] strikethrough button

2011-11-07 Thread Mirosław Zalewski
Hi

To add strikethrough button just click special button in button bar (it is
rightmost and has small arrow pointing down at bottom; it has also gradient on
background, so perhaps you won't miss it), highlight "Visible buttons" and
select "Strikethrough".

You can also try Tools → Customize... → Toolbars → Formatting. It should be
there.

I have tried this on LibreOffice 3.4.3 under Linux.

[libreoffice-users] strikethrough button

2011-11-07 Thread aborruso
Dear all,
I would like to add strikethrough button in my libreoffice toolbar, but I do
not find it in the buttons list that I can add customizing the toolbars (I'm
looking for it in Format list). Is it normal?

I'm using libreoffice 3.4.3. for Windows.

Thank you,

Andrea

Same here, I've got other similar invoices but they display OK. Now trying
to figure out the difference.

The document is for (European) A4, and US Letter is ~18 mm shorter, which
explains the page-overflow.

No need, these are old invoices, I can make future ones with Writer, but
given the fact hat the full RTF spec is available, I would have expected
Writer to handle it.

Just did a search, looks like it's this one:

Not in this case, a number of the capacitors on the motherboard have blown
and even with replacements it won't boot anymore. :(
