Right you are, the control is not 'data aware', not bound to a data
column, so you will need to use a macro to transfer the file path
returned from browsing to the data column. In the default installation
of LibreOffice is a basic macro library, Tools, which contains a number
of file path manipulation macros, these should make conversion to a
relative path (note here - relative to current directory of the ODB
file, yes?)

Anyway, I don't have an example snippet of basic on the disk at the
moment, pretty sure there are some examples at different forums already
- but I would really like to see this as an answer at
ask.libreoffice.org - so if you don't mind I'll put an example there.
It's kind of late tonight, but maybe before I turn in. You won't need to
have a logon account there to retrieve it.

The actual move to a data column is all of 2-3 lines, I don't think the
conversion to relative path should be too much more.. :-) I don't
think..

What I'll do then is post back here, with a link to the entry there..or
if feel like check out the site and open the question and send that here
- then I'll post to that entry - either way is good.

Best wishes,

2012-04-06 Thread avamk
I am actually quite new to Base, and didn't realise I could use the File
Picker control. When I try to change its reaction to the Mouse Pressed
event, it asked me for a macro.

Do I need to write a macro to get the relative path of my desired image??? I
actually have no macro coding skills to do that...

And how do I tie the selected file's relative path to the field I desire?

Sorry I am so new to this, but I would really appreciate any guidance you
can give me...

Ummm... right.

3.5.2 is the default when you click the 'Download' button:
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

So now lets check the release notes:
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/release-notes/

LibreOffice 3.5.2 Final (2012-04-05)

This is the third release from the 3.5 branch of LibreOffice.
It contains many exciting new features, and is the recommended version
for private users and small enterprises.

But wait... there's more:

LibreOffice 3.4.6 Final (2012-03-22)

This is the seventh release of the LibreOffice 3.4 code line.
LibreOffice 3.4.6 fixes the most-important bugs identified by users in
the previous version, as well as a potential security issue. It is of
course safe to be deployed for production needs.
LibreOffice 3.4 contains lots of new features compared to 3.3.

As a "user", particularly a new "user", which version would you choose?
I suggest you take this up on the discuss list.

I upgraded to 3.5 because of the default download status but it looks
like I should go back to version 3.4.

The wording should be sorted out because any new user who does not
follow this forum would download 3.5 as a matter of course and could
lead to disappointment and more income for Micro$oft. Any number of
download sites for other software have 'stable' and recommended
downloads and 'unstable' beta editions for those who like to live
dangerously. Perhaps the LibreOffice download page should go down this
track.

BTW the GB help file didn't work in 3.4 either.

Bruce

Hi Dan,

Wow - what timing - I was literally fiddling with an idea on this when
your email hit.

First- sure Base can browse to a file, just use the File Picker control.

Second - so far nothing I've tried will give you a drag/drop way to yank
the URL from an image driopped onto a form.

But as I say the file picker works just fine for this.

Avamk, have you used the file picker control and then if you need
relative paths, that would be easily done also.

What LO version are you using?

What OS (operating system) are you using?

Does LO show the same table contents as OOo does?

Using Design View for the query is question: What differences do you see
for OOo vs LO?

No. How would the form know where the image had been located? When
pictures are linked in a Writer document, you have to browse to the
picture's location before inserting it in the document. It is the
browsing that tells Writer the proper link for it. Base does not have
this ability (to browse to different other locations).

Hi :)
It looks like the relationship between some of the tables has gone wonky.  Can
you look at the relationships in the OOo and LO versions to see what is
different?

The Base Guide hasn't really got into it yet but there is some stuff in Chapter
2 that you might find useful as it explains the theory quite well.

Now just to find screen-shots and things!

The MariaDB project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of
MariaDB 5.1.62 and 5.2.12. Both of these are stable (RC) releases and
include MySQL 5.1.62 and several bug fixes.

Most importantly, MariaDB 5.1.62 and 5.2.12 include a fix for a bug that
under certain rare circumstances allowed a user to connect with an
invalid password. This is a serious security issue. We recommend
upgrading from older versions as soon as possible.

[libreoffice-users] Make a form that allows user to drag and drop in an image

2012-04-06 Thread avamk
Hello

Thanks to the great instructions
http://sheepdogguides.com/fdb/fdb1imagbp.htm here , I learned how to link a
VARCHAR field to images in my filesystem, and display them in a form.

However, when I add new entries, I have to manually type in the relative
path of an image into that field. This is cumbersome when I need to add lots
of entries, e.g. making a catalouge of things with images for each.

Therefore, is it possible to create a form so that when adding a new entry,
there is a "box" in the form where the user can just drag and drop in the
desired image, and the appropriate relative path to the image will be added
to the field???

Thank you very much!

Re: [libreoffice-users] Figure Numbering disrupted in Master Document (LO 3.5)

2012-04-06 Thread Ron Gregor
It is more that just the page that "recommends" 3.5.x it is that the main
download page only
shows 3.5.x version. So unless you know to look for an older version most
people would not
be aware the 3.4.x is still being worked on for bug fixes while the 3.5.x line
is being released.

I do agree that the main download page should show what versions are currently
being
released and give an explanation about each line and let the user decide what
fits there
needs.

Unfortunately for us we are still using Openoffice due to bugs with Libreoffice
calc. Line 3.4.x
has fixed a major stopper for us but 3.4.x and 3.5.x has added in enough "work
around" bugs
that we just decided to stay with Openoffice. So we wait for 3.5.x to fix most
of these and for
it to be the considered "stable" enough for business use.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Page breaks never get really deleted, bug shows when saving as docx.

2012-04-06 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Yes, most of us have to work in a mixed environment so we have to find ways of
working around the issues.  At my place they recently installed MSO 2010 on 3
main machines but we still have 2007 on the rest.  So i would guess that things
get messed up a bit.

For our newsletter we found the only way to keep it looking the same on all
machines was to use LibreOffice's native formats otherwise the photos and logos
would go wandering off.
Regards from
Tom :)

Well, it is not really my choice. I do have mixed environments, at work it is
MS-office and some LO. At home it is LO only. Since the work environment has a
higer priority any documents which are related to work have to be .doc or .docx.

But: In this case it looks like an .odt bug too, the page break gets saved even
after it was deleted, I saw it in the source of the document. I just have to
extract it to make a usable bug report. It simply does not show up if you
repoen the .odt document.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Upgrade information

2012-04-06 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
This link about the User Profile might explain a few things
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile

Uninstalling any version of LibreOffice does not remove all the settings and
configurations, Extensions (Add-ons), galleries and so on.  They are all left
in your User Profile.  So, the standard way to upgrade is to uninstal any
previous version and then do a fresh install of the new one and let it pick up
all your old settings.

If you wanted to "get back to factory settings" then instead of doing a
reinstall you would just rename your user profile, effectively backing-up your
old one in case getting back to defaults didn't fix the problem you had been
facing.

Most OpenSource projects seem to work the same way, eg Firefox (web-browser),
Gimp (picture editing) and so on.

Regards from
Tom :)

Yes, 3.4.6 will replace 3.4.4 without any issues.

I do not know about the more from 3.4.6 to 3.5.2.

If you are a "power user", or business user, I would stick with 3.4.6.
If you want the more cutting edge version, go ahead and install 3.5.2 as the
"upgrade".

I have not upgraded my Windows laptops from 3.4.5 yet.  I run Ubuntu and still
run 3.4.5.

IF you want 3.4.5, you can get it.  But 3.4.6 is the last of that line and may
be better.

if you want to work with ODT files without even using LO (or any other
program), may i also suggest the use of openTBS. It made my ODF
processing so much simpler, and at the end, you use PHP to code it. The
support is also very good, via the forum.
