[libreoffice-users] Mismatch between installed version number and update icon message

2013-06-25 Thread sun shine

Dear list

I'm running Mint 14 and wonder if this is this a glitch in the LibO
updates indicator?

I recently installed LibO4.0.4 and the update icon is still visible in
the top right hand corner of any component window (e.g. Writer, Calc,
etc.). When I select the icon the message is "LibreOffice 4.0.4 is
available. The installed version is LibreOffice 4.0.3.3." When I select
"About" from the Help menu, the version number is also given as 4.0.3.3.
and yet, according to Synaptic, the version I am running is 4.0.4.2-2.

I appreciate this isn't serious, I'm just wondering if something has
gone amiss in the 4.0.4 release which gives this misidentification of
the version being run.

Thanks for any insight

[libreoffice-users] advanced notes question

2013-06-25 Thread Brian Bakker

Hi all

Hopefully someone on the list can answer this for me. I received a
document (OpenOffice format) from someone who edited it using Microsnot
software and inserted notes into the document. However, I don't see
those notes when I open the document in LibreOffice. I understand from
the documentation that LibreOffice certainly does have an "advanced
notes feature" (http://www.libreoffice.org/features/writer/ - 10th
paragraph) but can't find where to switch it on.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

LibreOffice now calls these "comments". Try View | Comments.

I trust this helps.

Found it. Thanks. Unfortunately, it's greyed out, which I presume
means that LibreOffice isn't detecting the comments in the document.
Am I right?

I think not. Now you need to tick Tools | Options... | LibreOffice
Writer | View | Display | Comments. Then the menu item should become active.

My simple test shows that both these options (in menu and in Tools → Options)
do the same. So if menu item is grayed out, then LO is unaware of any comments
in file.
I would consider it a bug.

[libreoffice-users] 4.0.4win32 download link hacked or problems

2013-06-25 Thread J Weaver

Today, I downloaded libreoffice4.0.4.win32.exe twice. The first time I used the
big download link from the libroffice.org webpage (which first linked to the
donation page). I couldn't find the md5 hash on the libreoffice.org website,
though I eventually found the md5 hash for the experimental 64bit version (and
downloaded it and found the checksum matched that new download). So I googled
to the 32 bit version hash, and found links which all gave a very different
checksum beginning f21..., although the download from the libreoffice.org
website said it completed and gave a checksum of
3645B0ACFD2E6A7CA380804723D0C94A. Turns out the download through somthing like
nexxus was less than 2 mb. I of course deleted the file as possible malware,
but thought you should know.

And suggest that checksums be made available easily on the libreoffice.org for
32bit versions, not just experimental or 64bit versions. Freeware sites are
often targets for malware, as I found out long ago downloading xbmc.

Is the document opening in read-only mode? If you opened it directly
from an email it might be -- this happens to me all the time. If that's
the case, you'll want to save it first and then (re)open it.

Hi :)
Brian's answers are usually right.  It seems a few people missed it though.

LibreOffice now calls these "comments".  Try View | Comments.

and then

Now you need to tick Tools | Options... | LibreOffice
Writer | View | Display | Comments.  Then the menu item should become active.

On mailing lists people often post at the bottom of threads and sometimes
intersperse their replies to get them closer to the sub-questions they deal
with.  So, sometimes we have to scroll a bit [shrugs]
