There is no way that I have found to remove it, except by a manual change using the paragraph style menu. That fixes my problem, but passes the same problem on to the next person who wants to change the paragraph styling. I fear that paragraph is somewhat confused. There is direct character formatting, character style formatting, paragraph formatting, and paragraph style formatting - all different. To confuse things further, you can apply character formatting or character style formatting to an entire paragraph. If you really do solve your problem using a new paragraph style (and I'm not clear why you would call this a "manual change"), I think you have left your document in an ideal state for later modification by yourself or others. How to fix it: Add Format menu items "Clear all paragraph/character(/list?) formatting." It doesn't actually remove all formatting, but applies a default format which clear all the problem formats and allows a style to be cleanly applied. You don't need to clear any style formatting, as any modifications to these styles or replacements by other styles will simply supersede existing effects. What can be a problem is any local ("direct") character formatting which may have been applied - perhaps even (confusingly) to complete paragraphs. (This is the way that a beginner will format his or her documents.) But no-one needs to add any menu items: what you need is already there, at Format | Default Formatting (or right-click | Default Formatting or Ctrl+M). If you invoke this and then apply your new styles, everything should be hunky-dory. List formatting is such a delicate matter that I don't know whether a clear all list formatting operation would cause more trouble than it's worth. Any proper list formatting (applied using styles) should survive the application of Default Formatting, which is what you would want. I trust this helps. Re: [libreoffice-users] Question
I've had troubles in the past finding specific financial functions, as well. Can't help from the function standpoint in this case, but you could always fall back on the actual equation: FV = PV*(1+i)^n where FV is future value, PV is present value, i is the periodic interest rate, and n is the number of periods. Re: [libreoffice-users] Using the TOC/Index function.
Hi :) At a guess Scribus probably have their own forum/mailing-list and you might get better answers from them. Are you creating the document in Writer first and then opening it with Scribus later on? Did the Scribus document start as a fresh document within Scribus and using their native format or did it start out in another program such as Word? I found that of the few documents i have trouble with in Writer if i start a fresh new document and then copy&paste in the old contents using "Paste as unformatted text" then almost all troubles i've had with the document vanish. A couple of times i've done that within LibreOffice. Going from the 1st branch, 3.3.x, to 3.4.x or either of those to a 4.x.x it seems to help to go through that process again. The 3.3.x seemed very unripe, but all later ones have drastically reduced the occasional need for that sort of faffing around. So with a different program i would advise creating a fresh document in that program and then try to bring in elements with as little formatting as possible. Ideally go back to original images rather than moving them from one document to the next. That seems to raise the quality from 80-90% up to around 99% on those rare documents that seem grumpy about weird things. I vaguely remember working with foreign keys and the sql statement would refer to AlbumID from the parent as Album.AlbumID for both tables. Wouldn't I also need the ID from the Album table as well? Maybe I'm just better of using SQL Statements, but I don't see where I can do that. The GUI does not seem to be able to do what I am trying to do or I have forgotten more than I thought. If you want to use SQL DDL through LO's UI, Options > SQL (or Tools> SQL on the Mac) from the main menu is your friend, although the feedback is minimal (i.e. you get a message that the statement has executed correctly or not). Other than that, if you are trying to set it up so that your Album.AlbumID is referenced in the Track.AlbumID, then the way it should work in the GUI is via Tools > Relations in the LO Base file main window, adding the tables you want to join, setting the relation as 1-to-n by dragging the field AlbumID field from your Album table to your corresponding Track.AlbumID field in the Album table and then setting the UPDATE/CASCADE/DELTE options as appropriate. If this doesn't work after saving the database, then that would probably be a bug. Alex Thanks for the info Jay & Alex. I later went and recreated the db inputting SQL myself and it worked. I then repeated it using the GUI and found my error. I would create the relation by click and drag between tables. Then for some reason I was clicking on the toolbar icon for creating a new relation instead of right clicking on the line to edit the one already created. So I was actually creating duplicate relations. It's working now. I found that I do recall quite a bit of SQL as I also duplicated the full db in SQLite using just SQL, just lack the programming skills to create the UI, and entering the info by SQL statements for each record is a real PITA. I do have one more question though. I decided to add another table that would allow me to select existing data from this table to fill in a field in the main table. I created the new table with 2 fields. First field is an integer that is auto entered (essentially record count) and the second field is a text field. I then added a field in the main table that provides the link to this new table. In the form I changed the field type from Text Box to Combo Box (originally used List Box, but it didn't work). When I change to entry mode and enter a new record, when I get to this field and I click on the Drop Arrow a blank box is displayed. I am able to manually enter the correct data myself. I do have the new table populated with data. What am I not doing? I'm thinking of changing one other field this way and was doing this one to figure out doing it. Re: [libreoffice-users] How to find a text consisting of line break/ paragraph break marks [Writer]?
I thought it would be much easier. Writing a macro is not worth the effort in my case. I'm not going to use it very often. I think I will stick to regex and delete temporally all line brake marks to make a text one single and continuous paragraph for a moment. It requires few more operations on regex but is still easier and faster way then writing a macro. Thank you very much for your help. Now the problem you have is something that is more of a macro and not a find/replace with "regex". You have to find the first word and then mark that text placement. Then find the second word and mark that text placement. At that point you need to highlight all the text between those text placements. My question is . . . Are you going to do this many times or only once or twice? If you so not need to do this ofter, I would use the Find option and write down the line/column/etc. of the word. Then I would search for the second word. At that point I would go back to the first word's position and highlight al the text till I get to the position of the second word. I see no way to do something like this outside of a macro and I do not know macros so I could not tell you how to do this. I might be able to write a Pyhton script to do the work, but that would not be something you would do inside Writer. On 11/26/2013 10:42 AM, gordom wrote: Hallo everyone. [libreoffice-users] Using the TOC/Index function.
Hi all I've been looking for a way to index my monthly Journal I edit in Scribus. I have managed to get the Scribus function working, (after a battle), but two problems remain. 1) In all my Paragraph Styles the 'Fill Character' is greyed-out!! How do I activate this? 2) The created Index is in page order and not Alphabetical order. Can this be changed? [My Scribus version is 1.4.3 on PClinuxOS 2013.08] Thanks for any help.
