You have to delete the number for the footnote in the text. The footnote
will be deleted then.

[libreoffice-users] Delete Footnotes?

2018-05-16 Thread Peggy
I am just learning to use Writer and started a document. I added footnotes
and then changed things around and the footnotes need to be deleted so I
can start over. But I can't find any way to delete them. They won't
highlight. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help!

Naturally, find dialog always tells me, there is no such thing as for
example "backslash+p", since the find field
contains on "yen+p".

What codepage is the computer configured for?

My guess is that LibO is using that codepage for the UI, and UTF-8 in
Write.

Then the question is more, why the backslash it converted at all. I
think, that it is not a problem in LibreOffice, but one of the
operating system. In case of Windows 10 you might try the "Advanced
Settings for Microsoft IME". In its part "AutoCorrect" you will find a
replacement of \ to ¥. Perhaps if you set it to "No conversion" the
problem goes away.

I cannot test it.

Good evening.
Yes, I tried that too, but it does not work.
Googling the topic I found an article "Entering a backslash when using
UK keyboard layout on US keyboard" saying that you can get a backslash

by typing 92.
That gives me again a Yen mark.
Installing a US keyboard layout (again) does not help either.

I guess, I have to think of some other solution.
Sorry for having you all bothered with this.

You can not and that is a well know issue with the accessible tree structure
exposed in LibreOffice [1][2].

It also affects the ORCA screen reader for Linux based users.

I wish I could be more help. I'm just starting to play with screen
readers. I've been using the Orca screen reader that comes with Linux
Mint 18, and I've noticed the behavior you mention. With some file types
and programs, Orca will read the entire document as a continuous stream,
but with others, like LO, it reads one line at a time.

I've noticed that the behavior depends on both file type and the program
in which the file is loaded.

For example, my Orca will not read a plain text file loaded in Geany,
but it will read the same file loaded in Gedit or LO, but only one line
at a time.

Orca will read an HTML file in Firefox as a continuous stream of text so
long as I don't click on the document on the screen. If I click on the
document screen, it goes to reading only one line at a time, but since
I'm in a browser, I don't get a cursor arrow to tell me which line is
being read.

With any of the programs, I've found that once Orca starts reading one
line at a time, I can just scroll down using the down-arrow key to
continue reading.

I have found a way, through the terminal, to open Orca's preferences,
but I just haven't had time to play with it in any more depth.

...and try as I might, I have yet to find a way to get Orca to read a
PDF file, even a tagged PDF created in LO.

I have to believe that some of my issues are the operator errors of an
ignorant noobie, so I'll keep working at it as time permits. If I learn
anything new, I'll post it for others who may be interested.

Is there a trick to tell the Find dialog that I am talking about
"backslash" and NOT "Yen"?
So far all my attempts have failed. (meaning I am unable to use regular
expressions associated with a backslash).

Thank you

Re: [libreoffice-users] Mail Merge testing account fails

Hi Max

What version of LibreOffice are you using?

Have you checked your settings are correct?

When I change the settings I've found that the "Test Settings" can fail.

Closing down LibreOffice completely and restarting always seems to fix
it for me.
