[libreoffice-users] Configuring LO
One of the things I hate about LO is by default it looks awful ( my opinion ) How can I configure it ( on Linux and Windows ) so that all users get the same appearance without them having to do anything but then can over ride it if they think my taste sucks ;-) If there is a guide someone can point me to I would appreciate it Ta Mal All communications, incoming and outgoing, may be recorded and are monitored for legitimate business purposes. [libreoffice-users] Question on bugs
This has always puzzled me :- Why does LO list bugs by 'earliest version affected' ? If you look at the bug list for 5.1 for example, it shows 119 bugs. There are a number of bugs that 5.1 has that don't show on the list as they are recorded as affecting earlier versions. Why would anyone working on 5.1 look for a bug that is down as affecting 4.1 or something. An issue that came up the other day in both 5.0.4 and 5.1RC2 is actually first recorded as affecting 4.4.0 which by their roadmap went end of life in the middle of last year. Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing in Impress
Eventually the penny dropped, sorry for being thick ! This is outstandingly horrible ! My summary for anyone in the same boat suffering from brain failure at the end of the week: You have to go to 'Tools/Options/LibreOffice Impress/Print Make sure Paper tray from printer settings is unchecked Then 'File/Print' ( at this point the Print/Properties are wrong and greyed out ) Then 'Options' and check 'Use only paper tray from printer preferences' and 'Use only paper size from printer preferences' Then go back to 'General' select the printer and go to 'Properties' ( If you don't do this now it forgets the previous step ) The paper size and orientation are now available to change Then OK It will then work for the duration of the session as A3 and Landscape are now selected ( but greyed out again ) Once you save it and open it again you have to start from the beginning. Otherwise I see the same symptom (landscape, and size locked to A4). BTW, Impress seems to pick its size differently from Draw, which chooses a more useful default of A3 for an A3 drawing. Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing in Impress
I stand corrected :-) but the fun continues... If you set it up, save it and reopen it, you are correct it does save the printer settings but then select another identical printer from your list of printers it goes back to A4 for that printer . If then you go 'oops, my mistake' and go back to the original printer that has gone back to A4 again. At that point if you cancel out and do file print again on the original printer it's back to A3. Are there bugs posted for this - this seems almost designed to be a monumental pain in the behind ? Not correct AFAICS. Unfortunately, changing print properties doesn't seem to mark the file as needs-to-be-saved, so ^S does nothing (and File|Save is greyed out). I have solved this one... but to make the story more interestinghere is the series of event and I swear it isn't an April fools joke. LO printing to a Ricoh MPC5502 - I discovered that it's not justImpress and that any LO application had this problem it's just thatin Impress you tend to print larger. Printing in colour up to 36 points works fine. When you print at 40 pointsthe lower case letter are colour but all the capital letters come out as greyscale. So, OK, I thought I'll fiddle with the settings so I changed the resolution to 1200 dpi. Now all the capitals come out in colour but the lower case are in greyscale. Over 40 point it all comes out as greyscale After thinking I was going mad, the answer is that the PXL driver is thecause and the PS one works perfectly. I am now convinced that this is bug 50784 If I change the client timeout on the CUPS server the amount of time it takes before LO stops printing exactly matches. That are sort of definitions, referring in the end simply to the existing trays. Regards, Since we lease the printers I have spoken to both the engineers and the training department as I was hoping they could be set that way but these printers needs to be told to use the bypass - it doesn't select it automatically ( like small HP printers which if you put something in the bypass it will take it from there preferentially. ) The paper types don't just refer to the tray to take the paper from. They also tell the printer how fast to feed the paper through the machine. For example thick3 is used for t-shirt printing paper and that has to go through really slowly otherwise the toner doesn't stick. We have a really nasty work around for the t-shirt paper. That is, we put it in tray 3 and set that tray to thick1 ( which LO does show ) which slows the paper a bit. Then we also select 1200 dpi instead of the normal 600 which slows it even more and it works. However this does use up a tray and you can also only get away which doing 2 or 3 pages then you have to put a blank sheet through from a normal tray to clean the rollers. best wishes M -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-users] Printer Dialogs
Hi, The driver came from http://www.openprinting.org/ They claim this printer works 100% and only LO has this problem. All the other apps I have get it right and show all the trays and paper options. I had a look at turboprint and they don't seem to support Ricoh printers. :-( M _ From: Walther Koehler [mailto:w.koeh...@onlinemed.de] To: users@global.libreoffice.org Sent: Thu, 19 Apr 2012 08:44:51 +0100 Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] Printer Dialogs Hallo, I didnt follow the thread up to now. Do you use GNULinux CUPS? no: drop the rest yes: In that case its probably a problem of the .ppd and could be solved by modifying this filet or getting a better one from turboprint.com or a gutenprint driver will do it. Have you switched off CUPS? in my case I could (troubles with a Brother) I could solve the probelm perfectly. Walther Am Donnerstag, 19. I don't understand why you say it's a driver problem when every other application gets it right only LO misses stuff. best wishes M _ From: Cor Nouws [mailto:oo...@nouenoff.nl] To: users@global.libreoffice.org Cc: Malcolm Moore [mailto:st-malcolm.mo...@whsg.info] Sent: Thu, 19 Apr 2012 20:19:44 +0100 Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] Printer Dialogs Malcolm Moore wrote (19-04-12 09:12) Incidentally ( or not ) LO gets it right in Windows Looks as what I suggested: a driver problem. [libreoffice-users] Printer Dialogs
I wonder if I could revisit this issue again. I have been experimenting a bit more and LibreOffice doesn't show all the options the printer has available. For example:- ( With LO 3.5.n and openSuse 12.1) In the system printer dialog my Ricoh MPC 5000 has 4 trays and a bypass. In LO it only show the 4 trays Also it has paper types of Thick, Thick2 and Thick3 for different weights of paper. The LO dialog only has Thick which is a bit of a problem as some types of iron on paper we use has to go through the printer at Thick 2 or Thick 3 If I use something like Gimp or Chrome and print a page it shows all the options ( 21 types of paper and 5 trays ) LO only shows 13 types of paper and 4 trays. Where is LO getting it's information from and why is it wrong on some printers? ( our old HP 4250's are correct but they are pretty simple souls at the best of times ) Also, is there some way to tell LO to get it's information from the system? Many thanks Mal -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] Printer properties
I understand that LO does it's own printing dialog which I must admit looks a lot prettier than the system one ( openSuse ) however it seems to miss stuff. For example my printer has 4 trays and a bypass tray. The system dialogs see all of these and I can use them. LO only sees the 4 trays and doesn't give me the option to use the bypass tray. Is there some way I can tell it there is a bypass tray.
