Hello,
I just subscribed to this forum tonight so I could ask this question.
I am a long-time user of Linux Mint and LibreOffice. I have low vision, so
I use a large default font size and have my default screen magnification
set to 150%. Recently, I did a clean upgrade to Linux Mint 21.3. I was
easily able to adjust the scrollbar width on my browsers, but the
scrollbars in LibreOffice are so narrow that I can barely see them.
Increasing the screen magnification unfortunately doesn't change the width
of the scrollbars. I spent most of the day today working in LibreOffice
Calc, and I must have missed both the vertical and the horizontal
scrollbars hundreds of times. Very frustrating! I have spent the evening
researching fixes for this, but the suggestions I found were all several
years old, and none of them seem to be working on Mint 21.3. Can you
suggest a way to make the scrollbars wider globally across LibreOffice?

  Good afternoon. Sorry my English
I need to replace Manual Page Breaks (CNTRL-ENTER) with a printable character
string.
My problem is that the "Search" function does not distinguish the Manual Page Break from the
Paragraph Break (ENTER). That is, putting the expression "$" in the "Search" field gives
me both the Page Breaks and the Paragraph Breaks. This way it replaces all of them, the page ones and the
paragraph ones, which is not what I want (I need to keep the paragraph ones).
In other words, I can't find the regular expression to search for Page Break
and it doesn't give me paragraph breaks at the same time.
There is a similar question in April 2023, which can be found by "Remove manual page
breaks in Writer". But the solution does not work for me, because my colleague
pjferra needed to replace the page breaks with paragraph breaks, and Kyodake responds,
correctly, to that need in which it does not matter to replace the two types of breaks in
the operation, since they are replaced by paragraph breaks.
Has this situation arisen before for you? Have you managed to solve it?
Thank you so much for your attention.

You may have seen this question many times so I will apologize in advance for
asking it.

I have a Writer document formatted as docx. It will contain some of my
father’s poems but I have a need on a few pages to have the poem appear in two
or three columns on a page continuing from the bottom of, or a specified point
in, the first column to the second column and, in one case, to a third column.
The text must not wrap within each column because it is lines of poetry.

Can you tell me the best way to do this? I’ve checked the manual and have
some ideas but would appreciate someone guiding me to the best method to do
this.

Thank you for your time in advance. Oh, and in case it is important, I am
using LibreOffice 7.3.7.2.

Good morning from Wales, UK

I am a member of a local Heritage Society which some years ago created a
digital archive of several hundred photographs.

The archive is indexed in an Excel-type document, which was possibly not
very skilfully formated at the time. The index comprises 12 columns,
A>L, in an A4 Landscape layout, but the actual document seems to extend
rightwards almost to infinity.

I would now like to create new individual ‘slides’, probably as pdfs,
uniting each image with the information about it. But I have not yet
worked out the best method by which to import the information from the
*.ods.

One difficulty is that a ‘copy’ of a row from the dbase does not paste
neatly into a new document – it always seems to spill out to the right.

The other difficulty is choosing the best method of pasting. I have
tried all the ‘paste special’ options, and none of them seem to offer a
one-stop-shop route of import.

I have tried, for instance, creating a new table of 12 equal columns
that fits on my new page, with the idea of pasting into it, and then
sorting out the spacings, but I have not yet even found a way of so pasting.

The best method I have come up with so far is simply pasting the copied
row as unformated text, and then manually inserting the various elements
into the appropriate cell of a new table; which achieves the desired
result in the end, but is going to be cumbersome over several hundred
photos.

Any suggestions as to the most efficient way to proceed will be greatly
appreciated.

Sincerely

Ian Graham

using COUNTA.

Cell A1 has the formula =COUNTA(A$2:A$1, ISBLANK=0) above an
otherwise empty column. It returns the value 1!

Is that supposed to mean something? Has anyone notice this?
It's obviously not a big problem, because a workaround is obvious.
But do I have to mistrust the results of the COUNTA function?

Highlight all column headers and all the data below -

You can set multiple filter criteria in the column header drop-downs.

Hi:

Hope that all are well.

I am using LO 7.3.2.2 (x64) on desktop Win10 Home.

I want to fine tune a LO Calc file by adding a column that includes a
Category drop-down menu, but I find that I might have need for
subcategories, in some cases, to avoid a very long list of items.

I recall viewing a tutorial about what I am calling "nested drop-down
menu list", whereby if an option in the parent drop-down is selected,
a second, a third, ... etc. drop-down list is then opened, if they
exist. For example, if one option is utilities, a second drop-down is
opened showing, e.g. telephone, electricity, heating fuel, water,
etc., as further, optional, selections.

Unfortunately, I cannot recall if the tutorial was for Excel or Apache
Open Office or Libre Office.

Can somebody point me to a */Libre Office/* video tutorial or within
the LO Help that covers "nested drop down list"? "Nested drop-down
menu list" is most probably an incorrect key word text string.

Thanks for reading this.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Adding Videos to Impress Presentation Not Possible

2022-05-07 Thread Mike Flannigan

With mine I need to do Insert - Audio or Video.
Then it places the video on the slide, but I have no way to play it.
http://www.mflan.com/temp/vid.png

So inserting an image works fine, but not a video.

Hi everyone!

I've migrated to Linux a couple months ago and have continued to enjoy Libre
Office:)

However, I can't figure out why Impress won't let me add videos to my
presentation. I couldn't find a solution to the problem by looking it up.

Here's what happens:
I go to slide where I want the video to appear in
Select Insert
Select Video
[File Navigator opens] I navigate to the video file and select Open
Nothing happens, not even an error message is displayed:(
What I've tried to fix it:
Drag-and-drop
Dropping a .mp4 file into the slide displays a square with a music note in it,
not the actual video. Nothing happens when starting the presentation.Create OLE
object from file
After selecting the video file, two error messages appear (finally!)
"Permission to [path of file] denied"
This confuses me, because inserting images, for example, works just fine (also
true for images located in the same folder where the videos are located)
"Object from file [path of file] couldn't be inserted"The folder I'm using is
actually a syslink, so I tried copying the video file to my desktop first and then
inserting it into the presentation
Different file formats (mp4, m4v, webm)
Inserting GIFs results in only one frame of them being shown (nothing happens
when starting the presentation either), although I'm not sure if Impress has
the capability to display GIFs.
I'm running...- Linux Mint 20.3 (with Cinnamon 5.2.7)
- Linux Kernel: 5.4.0-109-generic

Thank you for trying to help!

[libreoffice-users] Extracting content out of table format received in an email

2022-02-23 Thread Mike Flannigan

Try pasting into a text file and then copying from
the text file.  Sometimes that works for me.

There are more elegant ways of doing the same thing,
but it usually involves writing a Perl script.

Do you ever receive emails of mini-newsletters where you want to save some
of the content in the email but if you copy/paste it into Libre Writer it’s
all in a table?

Looks good but now you wish to delete 1/3 of the content except you have to
delete rows, etc.

So time consuming.

I’ve tried all 4 ways to Paste into Libre Writer (plain text loses all the
bullet points)

Is there any shortcut to removing content from a table without losing all
the formatting (e.g. bullet points, graphics?

Thank you.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Buy/Sell Calculation

2021-10-13 Thread Mike Flannigan

I guess the slave column could be column G.

Can't you just copy the $15,25 'buy price' up
into cells C:2 to C:9?  Then you can just
calc the slave in column G with a consistent
formula.

Hello,

I have to calculate prices (buy/sell) and have a question to make it
easier. A little bit maybe:)

The file >http://status.sisi-systems.ovh/article_sample.csv

The file contains the columns Article number, text of the supplier,
purchase price, sales price, the lengths and master (1) slave (0).
The factor is for calculating the purchase price. The master (1)
can be ordered, the slave (0) items not. These are blanks.

The question is can I calculate the slaves automatically by
calculation on the basis of the master?

With hand for example:

=C10/E10*E2
=C10/E10*E3
...

With multiple suppliers:
=(C35+C36/2)/E36*E20
=(C35+C36/2)/E36*E21
=(C35+C36/2)/E36*E22

For several articles, this is a monthly job. Isn't there a way to do this
a little automated? Comparison with article number + master / slave? When
it will only work with one supplier it will be okay.

Maybe someone have an idea? It would be great.

Thank you
Silvio

Re: [libreoffice-users] RE: LibreOffice to LyX

I haven't dealt with long wordprocessing documents on LO,
but I have in MSWord.  And I have seen the exact same
whack-a-mole behavior.  Going through the whole document
and explicitly setting each section font size and style.
Numbered lists seem to cause the most problems.

playing whack-a-mole.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Calc how to display Autofilter values?

2021-06-13 Thread Mike Flannigan

Ahh.  Now I understand.  I can see how that might be useful.
Sorry, but I don't know a way to do that right now.
Seems like that might be a relatively easy thing to do,
but I don't know how.

Not at all what I'm trying to do. Distinct values have their uses. But
I already knew how to do that.

I'm trying to display the AutoFilter values being applied to a table
so they can be read without opening up each filter at the top of each
column to see what the settings are.

For example, three columns Name, Weight, Dimensions. The table has
1000 rows. AutoFilter is in use and 727 rows are displayed. What are
the filter settings? Sure, can tell if a filter is applied by looking
at the filter list widget and opening it if it shows the filter is in
use. And even if all three are in use, no big deal. Only three to open
and check the values.

When the table has 30+ columns and hundreds or thousands of rows, not
such a simple task. Much more convenient just to have a formula that
will display the settings of all applied filters.

If I'm not explaining the requirement clearly please look at the link
to the Excel solution. That's got pictures along with an explanation
of the problem and solution.

That's what I'd like to reproduce in Calc.

Have done a limited amount of searching in Andrew Pitonyak's OpenOffice.org

Can anyone provide guidance to display the autofilter values in a Calc

[libreoffice-users] Calc: Formatting cell with decimal point but no decimal digits

Any ideas?

I have successfully embedded libraOffice into our Java application using the
OOoBean which works fine on windows
After porting to Linux the bean is running but showing very small on Ubuntu
20 and 18, I have also tested it with
several versions of LO 7, 6.4 etc and the problem remains. openJava 11 and 8

I have reverted to the simple demo bean found at OOoBeanViewer.java

which also fails to show correctly.

I find very little information about the OOoBean or people discussing it,
can anyone confirm if this is maintained
and if it currently works correctly on any Linux distribution.

Not sure if this should be in the DEV mail list, but its not directly about
