This is your own position, but it's not what the majority of people think :)

Some contributors are really happy with their badges, this is not a TDF
work, but it's done by the ASK bot.

What Mike is doing is different, he his prominently displaying the names
of the contributors and send them (if they want) a sticker to thank them
for their contributions. And I've seen many of the contributors happy
and proud with their stickers, there is a fair collection of their
feedback on the social media.

Which is not true, this is one of the most important missions for TDF to
recognize the work done in all the areas of the LO and DLP projects.

Why Olivier has been contracted then? He is helping and welcoming each

I don't use ask, only doing moderation on it, but the fact that it give
credits to the users there was one of the most important feature to
choose it.

Their are some areas on the project where it's very difficult to reward
the contributors, we are aware of it. It's also the case for example for
the l10n team where Pootle doesn't reflect external contributions.

@all, so to be positive, what could be and should be the way to count
people giving support on all the users' mailing lists in the project?
Nabble could give some help and I'll see with Mike if it's possible to
integrate it to his badge system. Would there be other ways or other
area that seems to be not supported?

Best would be to correct the help :) So if anyone of you has some time
and want to help, you are more than welcome, no need to know how to
code, the only requested skill is to write.
In the meantime, we are trying to document the changes here:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Comparison_between_menus_in_LO_4.4.7.2_and_5.1.0.2
It's translated from the French documentation here:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Comparison_between_menus_in_LO_4.4.7.2_and_5.1.0.2/fr
Here also, if you have some time and know enough French to help with the
translation, you are very welcome. Of course, the documentation team
will guide you in each step, either for writing help content or to edit
the wiki :)

Kind regards

From where did you download your version? If you are on Linux, you have
to download the language pack you want to install. If you are on
Windows, all the languages are included, the language of your operating
system is pre-selected, but you can select what you want at the
installation stage. See here for more explanations on the installation
of languages:

All are included on Windows, on Linux or Mac you have to download the
one(s) you want. Maybe this is the pre-selection depending on the
language of your operating system that let you think that other are not
included?
We are very sensible to the language availability and the volunteers who
are translating the user interface and the help are working hard to make
them available for each version. For sure, we wouldn't want to privilege
one language over another, that wouldn't be fair for our translators and
the community.

I experienced the same issue as yours, will comment the bug. However, this
version is the first alpha of a new branch, so bugs are more than expected
and that's why we test them so early. Marcus has spent time to develop that
filter and I'm sure all what he wants is that it works. So please let him
the time to get feedback and also the time he needs to fix it. I've never
seen a developer breaking things by purpose :-)

You should also take into account that our community is international,
so the documentation may exist on different forms on the native language
projects.
The first documentation available to all users, whatever the language,
is the off line help, which is then duplicate to the wiki help. This
documentation needs much more love and is more and more outdated. We are
aware of it and would like to set a group to work on it. That is what
Jonathon has explained.
The l10n group is doing the QA on the UI and the off line help of the
en_US version. Some of them produce also help articles.

>
> Who else?

The PDF files are produced by the documentation team, Online help is
what you find on the wiki help but also off line, maintained by
developers and l10n team. The third group is the Native Language
projects where documentation, marqueting, websites, QA etc are
translated and documented.

If you would like to work on the documentation, there is a huge need for
the off line help, several functionalities are not documented at all and
could be lost for the users.
The users guide are done by the documentation team, you just need to
jump on the list and ask for an account on the ODFAuthors site, and
follow the workflow there. Let me know if you have other questions.
Kind regards

Downloading one of the daily builds after the patch has been applied here

I guess the Spanish mailing list will be able to sort out what happened
to their data. So forwarding to this list would be the best to help the OP.

I'm not sure I understand well what you want to do, but there is a way
to have a word and it's transcription at the same place.
To get this function go to Tools > Options > Languages settings >
Language and activate Asian.
Then in the Format menu, select Asian phonetic guide.
In the Base text field, you write the 'normal' word, in the Ruby field
the different word.
The area below let you choose where to put the Ruby text. Note that Ruby
is also a style that you can modify.
Don't know if that helps.
You can also build your own list of words, but that will appear as a
dictionary for spell checking.

Kind regards

So I opened a ticket and here is Cloph answer:
-
despite the many duplicates, this is not fixable by our end.
nabble just doesn't support https, so when your browser's security
policy prevents loading http content when viewing the surrounding page
via https, you need to add an exception to allow it.
added a corresponding message to the page if loaded via https - but
that's all we can do.

Yes, but as it's a website bug (Nabble embedded in SilverStripe), a
ticket should be opened on Redmine for the infra team. I'll take care to
open the ticket and collect either what is on the bug and on the list
later today and will give the ticket number here.

Yes, you'll find the answer here
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/11455/
if you look at the branch, you'll see that it's 4.3.
The bug is still on new because nobody closed it, most of the time, the
target is the next major, but if it can be added to a current branch
with no risk, it's done.

With each LibreOffice new major version there is API changes. So please
see the release notes and maybe adapt your macros:

If you still experience problems, please file a bug and provide a

You question would have more answers on the developers list. However,
depending on what you want to do, if it's just for having the Calc

The form has two states: design mode on or off. In the Control toolbar,
you have an icon (last on the bottom right) named Form design. Clicking
on it will activate another toolbar that will allow you to switch
between the mode on/off. This toolbar has also a button to allow you to
open the form in design mode or in fill mode.
The other icons of this toolbar will help you for the design of the form.
You can activate this toolbar via View > Toolbar > Form design too.

We have to do the difference between SOHO users (single/home users) and
corporate users. This is what Werner was explaining by 'being more
patient' for single/home users because the others have the ability to
benefit from the ecosystem.
This is something extremely important to understand that companies are
not only big users but also actors, they are those who make LibreOffice
too beside the volunteers here.
So you may say that what I wrote is ridiculous, but if we want
LibreOffice to thrive and have less bugs and more quality, this is
something to really take into account.

so concerned as you are, you're following the new features page on the

daily builds to see if your bugs are fixed and there is no regressions?

So again, if you are concerned by regressions, you should follow what is
develop and what could have an impact for you. You can even write a
regression test that I can put on our manual tests system. You don't
need to wait for things to happen by themselves.

He is not blamed for bringing his pet bug, but for not being proactive
on it and for waiting that a volunteer take care of it without helping
in any way to have it solved.
When you use LibreOffice in a corporate environment, you have to take
care of the investment made by your company and take care also to
protect the software used there. Being in a waiting attitude without
helping things to happen put you at the risk to lose your investment or
lose your software by not sustaining the ecosystem.

[libreoffice-users] Question about table icon

2014-10-02 Thread Sophie
Hi all,

Small question to new users, who is aware of the table icon behavior:

1) Click Icon -> Dialog insert table
2) Click and hold on Icon -> show Drop down
3) Click arrow -> show Drop down

Just answer yes or no depending if you are aware of it or not.
Thanks a lot in advance

Why should a volunteer fix the bug for your company? Very strange way to

So help to fix it instead of ranting here and on the issue, volunteers
won't act quicker because you rant about their work. Joel has took the
time to explain you on the issue how it works.

But those doesn't exist anywhere else, because we are not producing a

And yet, this is something that you don't want to ear.

I don't think that anybody contributing in this project wants to lose
users and contributors time. Each time, we explain and discuss to try to

That is what is doing the Windows installer. On Linux, there is only one
command line and a file to edit, so really I don't see how it's
complicated. I don't know about Mac however.

In fact it's not call Properties, it opens on Properties by default but
you have icons on the top right side of the bar where you can switch to

It's really a bug because it's a predifined style. So it should stay
consistent all over the document. I my test, there was no hard
formatting, I removed the content and apply the style as Joel said.

It's strange because if you insert a Title3 before the last paragraph,
it's bold. It's only if you add it at the very end that it's corrupted.
You found a bug I guess ;)

You are guessing at the risk to annoy users who are not interested by
other things than help. This list has a high traffic (and get more and

its archive clean to search in it. Thanks!

the discuss@ list is under the TDF domain, you can discuss LibreOffice
and also DLP babies of TDF. The NLPs discuss lists are grouped by
language subforums on Nabble, it's easier to maintain and to find like
this.

you're right, this is not the program that is important but the file
format. Giving the ability to the users to retrieve the data he owns
over years is the real important thing.

The day Microsoft will abandoned the binary file format it produces,
this operator will regret to not use LibreOffice and its default ODF
file format. This is not just like clicking on a button, this is data
you produced and where you should remain the only proprietary, not the
software that produced it.

To have less bugs and regressions that make it more sure to use by
average users. When you are at the 4th or 6th cycle of a release, you
can consider that almost all of the functionalities have been used and
if there was bugs or regressions they have been reported and depending
on there severity/impact, they have been corrected. Which is not true
for the more recent release with less usage and less users, it needs
more time and cycles.

So you answer them and they will know, this is how support works. You'll
always have people who don't know what is ctrl+c for when it exists for
the same functionality in several software over several years. And you
will explain it over and over. Don't think that writing it somewhere
will be enough, that won't be read, we all know it.
>

Yes, but you keep thinking on the same model: stable vs unstable when
both are stable :) change your mind by thinking older in time = more
bugfixes, newer in time = more features but more bugs.
>
> Also if we are expecting the new users to do all the bug-finding and

Who do you think? :) the users of course, each bug is triaged and will
be fixed one day or another and will find his place in the current
version, and will be backported in the older one still in life if there
is absolutely no risk or it it's a regression.

Finding bugs yes, who would find them else? One version is older and so
has been more experienced in all its features and corner cases, another
one has more features that need to be tested in real life work to find
regressions or bugs on those new features.

> Would it really be bad to give them a clear and easy route to a less buggy

This is what is done, you, as a user, decide which version is good for
you, the older one or the new one. Even with all the tests we are doing
before a release, we won't be able to find all the bugs that are
triggered by a specific use of the suite, there are too many different
ways to use it.

The discussion happened on the private marketing list. This list is not
secret but kept private because this is where PR are prepared and are
under embargo until the release, however translators need to have them
earlier.
Charles explains the choice that was made in his blog here
http://standardsandfreedom.net/index.php/2014/08/01/libreoffice-4-3/
If you want to give your feedback and make other proposals, please make
them on the marketing list to reach the marketing team.

Sophie

May be because the companies hiring developers to work on LibreOffice
have their own bugs to deal with, you know how the ecosystem around our
suite works.
However, if you want to know more about what they are doing to improve
the quality of LibreOffice, I recommend you read:

I think it answers your questions about quality commitment.

It's not a workaround and it's how it is designed. So you're doing right
regarding how LibreOffice handles mail merged. So the best is to request
an enhancement on our bug database. If you need help doing so, you can
also come to our French speaking QA list at q...@fr.libreoffice.org.

Hey, you are on the LibreOffice list, so I don't know, may be they need
to wait for the new certificate to be in place :) A lot of sites have
been affected and not all of them have been able to add the new
certificate quickly however they patched the OpenSSL security thing and
the site by itself was safe, only the new certificate needed to be
issued, at least that's what we've done on the LibreOffice
infrastructure side.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Heartbleed

2014-04-18 Thread Sophie
Hi all,

Top posting to answer to all, the risk for LibreOffice users was when
using remote location like webdav or cmis. But again, LibreOffice 4.1.x
branch is not touched by Hearbleed because the OpenSSL library used
doesn't have the bug. In the LibreOffice 4.2.x branch, the last 4.2.3.3
fixes the OpenSSl library used, so if you use this branch, you should
update to the last released version. But again the risk for LO was
rather low.

To answer you specific question now:
Le 18/04/2014 17:37, alnuwer a écrit :

Each of the 4.2.x.x releases are for early adopters because the version
is still quite new and needs more tests to be said "Stable". If you use
version of this branch you should always update to the last available.
>
> So in layman terms, what is the difference between 4.2.2.1 and 4.1.5?

See above, the 4.1.5 version is stable and has been tested for a long
time now. I you want to use it for your daily work, you should always
stay with this branch 4.1.x, until the 4.2.x branch is said stable and
for all users.

[libreoffice-users] Manual tests for 4.2.0 RC1

2013-12-11 Thread Sophie
Hi all,

The 4.2.0 RC1 version is due soon now and we would like to invite you to
test it as this is the first release candidate.
I've set a test environment on our Moztrap site, see here:
http://manual-test.libreoffice.org/results/runs/?

Those tests are very simple and have a step by step description with the
expected results for each step. It takes a little time, but, hey, we
want a strong version :) Plus you don't need to run the whole tests in
one session, you can come back later.

For more information on how to participate to those tests, please see
the wiki pages here :
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/MozTrap/User_Guide
and don't hesitate to ask on the QA list or directly to me if you need
any help.

Christian will inform you when the release candidate is available, but
in the meantime don't hesitate to take a tour on Moztrap. I will send a
mail to the users@ and projects@ list too.

Thanks in advance for your participation, it is highly appreciated and
will help a lot to provide a thoroughly tested version to our users.

Kind regards
Sophie

They use LibreOffice since some times now. You may have also seen that
MIMO is part of our Advisory Board, it represents several ministries in
France which are using LibreOffice. See this announcement:

Ministry of Defense is participating here.

Thanks for your announcement, we still have some work on it, but with
the help of Clayton now, I'm sure we will have some speed :)

The FAQ is maintained on a daily basis by the French team, so the items
should be up to date, those which are obsolete have been put in remarks.

To give you some history, this FAQ has been began by the French group
over 14 years ago at the StarOffice time...

Yes, it's a wiki, so don't hesitate to put your hands on if you see
something wrong, this is a tool for all of us.

Calc still needs some love, a lot of items are missing, that I'll take
care during the next months. Clayton is currently working on Impress
when he has time. Any help is appreciated, most of the screen shots in
Writer FAQ are still in French for example.

If I understand well, what you need is to define a page style that will
be a odd page for each of the chapters of your book. To know more about
page styles, please see

LibO use an internal cache for authentication so whatever the protocol.
You can currently use CMIS in 3.6.x version by activating the
experimental functions and LibreOffice native dialog box. See here for
more information:

Could you check if you have the extension Language Tool installed,
that may come from here. Otherwise, could you also check for the
language of the document or paragraphe when the dialog pop up.
