Re: [libreoffice-users] Downloading Latest Windows Release

Using the standard process for downloading from the download page the LibreOffice install file came as a *.MAN file. Clearly this would not install. When I changed the filename to *.msi it would install. I've now heard from catn.com's Head of Infrastructure that they've corrected the configuration problem. And he's right: the LibreOffice installation file now arrives correctly from their mirror as .msi. What file name shows up in the download panel? As I mentioned earlier, I downloaded and installed the latest version without that problem, I used Firefox, on Windows 7, to download it from www.libreoffice.org. Thanks for this, but you haven't understood (or read?) what I wrote. The main link, although it names the file to be downloaded, is merely to the donation page. The actual download is provided by a mirror site, and these are very probably geographically selected, so the questioner and I - both in the UK - may well be using the same one, but you - in Canada - will very probably not. You will not see any problem that exists on the UK mirror server. In any case, the file name on the UK mirror server is still correct: that is not the problem. Instead, what appears to be a minor configuration error on that server means the file format is misunderstood by browsers (yes: plural) and the file is consequently renamed in the download process. The earlier case I referred to - with an earlier version on a Romanian mirror site - was recognised as genuine and attended to. Oh, and I have now alerted catn.com directly. Using the standard process for downloading from the download page the LibreOffice install file came as a *.MAN file. Clearly this would not install. When I changed the filename to *.msi it would install. I can confirm this - also from the UK but using Windows XP (and IE8). Note that LibreOffice installation files are provided from mirrors and since the problem is at the mirror site it will be the case that other users may well be redirected to other mirrors and may not experience the same problem. The mirror site offered to me is mirror.catn.com, which appears to be located in the UK; its contact address is in Aldershot. Perhaps you were offered the same. http://mirror.catn.com/pub/tdf/libreoffice/stable/4.1.2/win/x86/ offers LibreOffice_4.1.2_Win_x86.msi - but the download process renames the file with a .man extension and describes it as "Unknown File Type". This is presumably the same problem as https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53241 , which suggests that catn.com needs to add AddType application/octet-stream .msi to its .htaccess file. Thinking this was a problem with Internet Explorer I tried again with the Opera browser on my own system. Exactly the same thing happened. Even though the link looked like an .msi file it actually came as a .MAN file! Yes: it's a server problem, not a browser one. I am letting you know so you can address what I consider is a serious fault and obstruction to getting users to switch to LibreOffice from other Office software. Could some helpful person with the right sort of account please report this as a bug at the LibreOffice site? Meanwhile I may contact catn.com directly. I trust this helps.
