printers listed after deletion

2020-10-29 Thread antonio montagnani
I deleted a network printer and then I reinstalled (by Hplip, by cups,
by system-config-printer, for testing) and while in Hplip, Cups or
system-config-printer I get only one printer in the list, if I print
from Firefox, Thunderbird for example I have in the list also the
deleted printers that were installed with different names. Why?

I can connect from my Fedora laptop to my 2 Rasperry's with no issues,
they can connect each other with vinagre and vnc, but I cannot connect
from either Raspberry to my Fedora laptop with vinagre, as soon as I
give permission to connect, connection is closed. Any idea??? no

Running as root, what does
ls -nZ
in /boot/efi/EFI/fedora show? Are the selinux contexts set properly?
If they are, you can ignore the warnings. On my system, instead of
boot_t, they show dosfs_t, which is probably correct, since that
directory is vfat. So, the error was probably because grub was trying
to set an incorrect context, and selinux rejected it. You could open a
bugzilla against grub2-common to get this fixed.

IIRC, for GNOME, Wayland is the default and firefox-wayland is the
default. You can install and run firefox-x11 even when running Wayland,
but someone else might be able to say whether the reverse is true. For
other desktops, firefox-x11 is the default and if running Wayland, you
can install firefox-wayland.

firefox-wayland is not the default anywhere yet.  It is intended but
there are still some issues to fix before that.

I've seen some discussion about multi-lib issues recently that sometimes
32-bit packages are not getting included in the repo.  The packages were
built:

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=991410

However, I just checked the mirrors and I don't see that version at all,
not even in updates-testing.  I wonder where you're picking it up from.
updates-testing has 2.18.1.

This is a mailing list, not a web-based forum.
There is nothing to log-in to. To send messages you write a new e-mail to
the list address and everyone subscribed gets it into their inboxes.

Some services like Google Groups and Yahoo groups host discussion groups
which can be accessed like a traditional mailing list and also as a web
based forum (in other words reading and writing new messages from its web
interface).

But AFAIK this is a traditional style mailing list .

Yes, but the web-based archive system changed a few months ago, (to
something that is IMHO markedly worse than what it used to be) and that
does require a login.

on the disk to confirm everything is error free. One could also boot from a
live cd and run fsck since the partitions should not be mounted.

Depends, depends on what actually happened/gone wrong.

In most such cases, the filesystems are mounted read-only or not mounted

Instead of typing Ctrl-D, enter the root password and you should get
a root shell, from which you can run e2fsck. The only time you should
need to do that is if the filesystem has damage more serious than can
be safely repaired by the automatic fsck. Since you mentioned "e2fsck"
I'm assuming that your filesystem is ext2/3/4. If it's actually one
of the newer, more exotic types (xfs, btrfs, ...), none of this advice
may apply.

e2fsck after hard shutdown

2015-09-04 Thread antonio montagnani
Sometimes if you have to shut-down improperly or power is missing, it
happens that your system doesn't start in the usual way, but in a kind
of emergency mode, and you can enter in it by Ctrl D...after that
usually you have to make a control on your filesystem using an
installation media (DVD or USB key) and running e2fsck at least on your
/home.
Is it not possible to run e2fsck during the standard boot before
filesystems are mounted?? (maybe a stupid question, forgive me and my
bad english)

You are assuming that the maintainers are employed/paid to maintain
that project. In quite a number of cases they are not paid for it, so
given that you may or may not get it fixed. And if I was a volunteer
for a project and my "supervisor" started harassing me, then you would
need a new maintainer for that project. Remember they are not being
paid and you are not paying for the product. Even when one has an
expensive paid support contract getting some things fix is still often
impossible/difficult and in that case there is some limited contract
requirements for the support organization to help you.

Remember most of the less used parts are volunteers they may or may
not have time to fix the bug. I have fixed a few bugs that were in
stuff that I used and that I was pretty sure there was no paid person
to maintain. I submitted the fix/patch back to fedora and they fairly
quickly put that patch into an update. This is how open source
generally can work, others see the bug, figure out the fix and submit
the fix.

no, I am not assuming that maintainers are paid, but when you are a

Hello,

I can wait any time (actually I've tried for a max waiting time of 10

In order to connect I have to:
1. Right-click on the NM applet and deselect "Enable Networking". The
applet stops animating
2. Again, right-click on the NM applet and re-select "Enable
Networking". Now, NM successfully connects to the network.

Am I alone to experience such problem?

The NM version is 0.9.10.1-1.2.20150109git for Fedora 21 x86_64

I've just updated NM to the version that is currently in updates-testing

I am experiencing a similar issue:

sometimes NM doesn't connect to my wireless network, I have to switch to a
different wireless net, then back to my network: but if only one network is
available, I have to switch off and on NM

In my case, the patched NM solved the problem.

If you want, you can try it as follows:
1. Enable the yum repo /etc/yum.d/fedora-updates-testing.repo
$ sudo vi /etc/yum.d/fedora-updates-testing.repo
(change "enabled=0" in "enabled=1")
2. sudo yum update NetworkManager
3. Disable the "feodra-updates-testing" repo
$ sudo vi /etc/yum.d/fedora-updates-testing.repo
(change "enabled=1" in "enabled=0")
4. Reboot and cross your fingers

you have to download from koij, I don't see it in updates-testing. I can
wait, it is really a minor issue

Tnx anyway

Systemd is probably involved, but I rather suspect plymouth to be the real

logging in as root there, and switch to runlevel 3 and back to runlevel 5.
That does the trick for me.

from ssh I issued an init 3, I got the request for username and I

Well, assuming you can ssh into that system, when you do the "ps -eaf | grep X"

No. Remember I said to start in "single user mode" so it is *expected*
that it will start in the DOWN status.

I just wanted to verify that the link is shown as existing.

If the link is down, the boot probably hasn't stalled, but assuming
things like sendmail and such are configured, it can take a LONG time to
come up because DNS resolution will have time out before things will
continue.

One thing is true.

Nobody asked the OP how long he let the system sit before he decided it was
"stalled".

So, I ask that now.

How long, Antonio, did you wait for the system to come up the login screen before you
decided it was "stalled".

1) In a "normal" operation (but I am online by wireless card):
systemctl status network.service
network.service - LSB: Bring up/down networking
   Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/network)
   Active: inactive (dead)

2) Ed, do you mean that waiting for a minute or two is too short? :-)

3) I repeat, this behaviour is not constant

Waiting for your advice. Tnx to all

Good. Possible caused by improper power down

I would also run...

To see if any badspots have been reallocated.

You should be able to do that with dd.

Cannot make a copy of video DVD with k3b

2014-08-06 Thread antonio montagnani
I got a DVD recorded with a Sony DVD player. When I try to make a copy
1:1 using k3b I get the error that seems no available space in temporary
folder!!!
Temporary folder seems to be /tmp/kde-antonio/sony_dvd_recorder_volume
and available space is detected as 1.9GB while project space is 4.2 GB

I tried also with Brasero but copy was incomplete and I wasted a new DVD.

Forgot to say that recorded files on original DVD are ok. (DVD is played
fine). Anyway I can't do a copy of Video files on my PC as permits don't
allow it.

Are you saying you want to force a logout even if the guest is still using, or
are you saying you want to logout after inactivity?

For inactivity, adding "export TMOUT=#seconds" to .bashrc should do the trick.

The library policy is that an user should connect for an hour, and it
should provide an automatic logoff with a pop-up window that tell the
user that is close to be logged off.

I can't help that much, but this does happen to me on both my Fedora

I currently get round it by logging into a virtual console as root, and
running telinit 3 then telinit 5, which is quicker than rebooting.

Might be a variant of this bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1023820

What you can do as a work around is:

sync && reboot -f

That's an abrupt forced reboot but syncs and should unmount file

it is related to some problem at cups services stoppage,as if I issue a

systemctl stop cups

we are testing a 3D printer, with Marlin driver. With Repitiert Host at
first test we didn't get any connection with 25 baud rate. From
googling around I am confused if 25 baud can be accepted by Fedora
(I think so)
Printer works fine in Windows with same baud rate. Are we missing some
point??

Installed Gnome 3 but when I want to see all application instead of more
frequent, nothing appears.I noticed also some artifacts on some windows.

No problem when user starts LXDE instead of Gnome 3.

No, it is not fixed. I just verified that hitting "Shutdown" results in the
following AVC...

type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1373698327.629:499): pid=1 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295

exe="/usr/lib/systemd/systemd" sauid=0 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?'

I'll add that note to the bugzilla.

do you mean that it is Selinux related?? because the bug has been reported
against lxsession

Yes. Comment 1 has been verified.

You may want to consider opening a new bugzilla against selinux-policy. It may
be fixed faster than waiting for the person assigned to transfer it to that
component/responsible person.

Bug's reporter should change component, I am not allowed to do it

F19: after upgrading I cant't login from gdm

2013-07-02 Thread antonio montagnani
After fedup'ing I have a fully updated system but surprise I cannot
login, after the password insertion of any user I get a blank screen
with the fedora log on the bottom, and nothing happens.

If I start from a console startx, it works fine.
Furthermore if the screen saver starts, if a password is required i get
an authentication failure, same for any application asking for root
password (i.e.yumex)

Running nouveau on a old FX5200 video card (but now Gnome 3 at least
works, in F18 I was an fallback mode)

manually rebooting the system ends up in a workable state, so it's

F18 - Connect to server doesn't show recent server list

2013-06-29 Thread antonio montagnani

I have two F18 systems.

1) when I open Connect to server I see the list of recent connected
server and I have also the Explore button
2) in a fresh installed system I don't have the server list and also
explore button is missing

Both system connect each other fine with smb or sftp.
What am I missing??

F18- Not able to share Printer

2013-06-29 Thread antonio montagnani
Made a fresh installation on a machine where a printer is connected.
Printer is installed locally, but when I try to share it I cannot see it
on the network, and if I use system-printer-setting no printer is seen
on the network even if I write the correct IP (i.e. 192.168.1.2)

Both machines ping each other.
I cannot see it eeven if I stop firewalld.

Any idea???

Antonio:

Right up front I'll say I have no idea about the various problems you
report (apparently) from having used fedup.

However, this last one, you almost certainly DO NOT need to reset the
machine. If I read you right, it's stuck in the screensaver, you can't
authenticate to get back to your login.

If that's right, you can do one of at least a couple different things:
1. try CTRL-ALT-BKSP, which should kill your X session and return it to
a login. Note that this only happens if that response to CTRL-ALT-BKSP
hasn't been disabled by default.
2. switch to another VT, log in, kill the X session that's stuck.
3. probably a dozen other choices that don't come to mind right now.

In my F19 system, CTRL-ALT-BKSP seems to be disabled by default. you
can enable it in the gnome tweak tool. click "typing" and in the resulting
list select "Key sequence to kill the X server", set it to
"Control + Alt + Backspace. then the next time you have this kind of
fail, just do the 3-finger-salute and voila.

Fred

tnx for the reply.

I have decided to reinstall F18 from the net. The machine is connected
to the home printer and scanner so it cannot stay out-of-service for a
long time.

I have the doubt that at this stage of release, my fedup-cli 19 network
command may have got the wrong packages, (for example no F19 kernel,
that is quite surprising)

I suppose the first question would be:

How is this printer that is connected to a computer on your network
being shared by that computer?

Is the machine that the printer is connected to also running F-18?

You need to install network printers too.  This means you need to choose
the appropriate drivers to get a complete functionality.  Usually Fedora
ships most printer drivers, if the driver for your printer is missing
please try to file a bugzilla report.

Hope this helps,

driver for a printer connected to a remote computer

2013-03-31 Thread antonio montagnani
A printer connected to a computer on my network is easily discovered but
driver is generally a Raw generic driver: therefore I cannot use part of
options (i.e. printing multiple pages on a single sheet and so on).

If I want to have full functionality I have to install driver by hand
using system-config-printer.

(I am using a Samsung ML-1610 laser printer)

What shall I check??
