Thanks for the reply, at least we know the cause.

No problem using com.sun. Although I'm more of a Metal LnF myself :-)

Apache NetBeans IDE 9.0 Community Acceptance Survey

2018-07-09 Thread Jiří Kovalský

Hello NetBeans community,

Apache NetBeans IDE 9.0 Vote Candidate (VC) 3 [1] build has been
published [1] and so the time for the final Community Acceptance survey
[2] has come too. The essential purpose of this survey is to find out if
NetBeans community accepts the latest VC build as ready for GA or not.
Please note that this poll is not about Apache NetBeans IDE 9.0 sources
but about its functionality and behavior.

   [1]
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/incubator/netbeans/incubating-netbeans-java/incubating-9.0-vc3/

   [2] https://goo.gl/forms/AaxLnkFeRwCTgj182

This is a very important milestone of the release cycle so we turn
to you - NetBeans users - with request for help. Please download this
Vote Candidate, edit your Java sources, debug the code, try refactoring
features, simply test your typical use cases and once you gain a solid
opinion about the VC build please take this short survey. It will stay
open until Sunday - July 22nd midnight last timezone. In spite of that
please complete the survey as soon as you can.

Thanks for your cooperation and feedback!

Re: NB 9.0: "Run File" not working in Maven Project

2018-07-09 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
I would recommend removing rc1 and not referring to it again, use only the
9.0-vc3 instead, don't include any plugins and then try to reproduce any
problems you encounter with a new fresh user directory.

NB 9.0: "Run File" not working in Maven Project

2018-07-09 Thread Thomas Kellerer
I have a weird situation with the "Run File" action with NetBeans 9.0 (VC3 and
RC1)

For some Maven Projects "Run File" is always disabled even though the current
class in the editor does have a main() method.

When I open the same Maven project with a clean data directory, the main class
is detected (and "Run File") is enabled.
So it apparently isn't related to the Maven project itself, but to some
configuration (or plugin) in my NetBeans installation.

So: which setting or configurations options could make this stop working? Where
should I look?
Could a plugin cause this?

Thomas

Re: another error

2018-07-09 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
What you personally think is not relevant here -- in Apache, a 'release
candidate' is the thing you vote in inside Apache before releasing it to
the world, while in the NetBeans world, a release candidate has always been
an actual release to the outside world.

This caused a LOT of confusion when we release rc1, because in Apache, a
release candidate is actually a voting candidate, not something that is
actually released.

Anyway, all these kinds of discussions do not belong here -- they belong on
'dev'.

In Apache, all voting is done on the 'dev' mailing list, if you're
interested in keeping up to date with that, that's where you go.

In fact, we specifically asked this a few days ago on the 'users' mailing
list, so yes indeed, we did inform the 'users' mailing list too:

Re: another error

2018-07-09 Thread Thomas Kellerer
I personally do not think that "RC is an overloaded concept", but that's indeed
off-topic here.

Inventing a completely new abbreviation does remind me of this however:
https://xkcd.com/927/

I am not really interested in the discussion whether Apache uses RC or VC or XC
or something entirely different.

But I would appreciate a message on _this_ list if new versions are made
available for testing to the users.

VC stands for 'voting candidate'.

The problem with RC is that it's an overloaded concept -- a release candidate
in Apache is something different to a release candidate in the NetBeans world.

There's been lots of discussions around this on the 'dev' mailing list --
suffice it to say, if you're interested in these kinds of topics, you should be
on the 'dev' mailing list, the 'users' mailing list is simply for questions and
answers on the functionality of NetBeans, e.g., 'how do I change the font size
in the editor?' type of questions.

Re: another error

2018-07-09 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
VC stands for 'voting candidate'.

The problem with RC is that it's an overloaded concept -- a release
candidate in Apache is something different to a release candidate in the
NetBeans world.

There's been lots of discussions around this on the 'dev' mailing list --
suffice it to say, if you're interested in these kinds of topics, you
should be on the 'dev' mailing list, the 'users' mailing list is simply for
questions and answers on the functionality of NetBeans, e.g., 'how do I
change the font size in the editor?' type of questions.

What exactly does "VC3" stand for? Is that something like "RC3"? (the third
release candidate?)

Re: another error

2018-07-09 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Here's info on where and how to find the 9.0 VC3 release, which was built
yesterday:

https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/a644bb8e3ba2cbd06328bb004f1b18b4171763cd3d78a9131615f687@%3Cdev.netbeans.apache.org%3E

You're also welcome to join the 'dev' mailing list to vote on it, after
using it, and assuming you'll describe your full environment when voting --
though note the vote is about the sources, not the binary.

Thanks,

Gj

Re: another error

2018-07-09 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
It's not possible to help. We need to know your operating system, version
of JDK, etc etc.

Also, what did you do to get this error, exactly?

Also, are you using 9.0 VC3, i.e., the vote candidate currently being
considered for the final release of 9.0?
