I appreciate your asking about it here first, though! That's a great

Re: fout: open office en Norton conflict

Dear Reader,

Kind regards,

What operating system are you running? For example, what Mac OS version
or Windows version?

Also: in your web browser, go to any web page, then go to File >> Save
As, then save as an html page. Now, go to the Finder or Windows
Explorer, and double-click the file you just saved. Does it open in
OpenOffice or in your web browser? If the webpage you saved opens in
OpenOffice, then maybe the problem is with your file associations. If
you use Windows, then see

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-default-programs

for more information. If it's a Macintosh, then click on the file you
just saved, and then press ⌘-I on your keyboard. Where it says "Open
with," does it have OpenOffice? If it does, then change it to Safari,
then click "Change All..."

If the problem ONLY occurs with Norton and not with just any saved HTML
file, then you may have to call Norton support for further assistance.
(The last time I checked, I think their number is 650 527-8000 or 011
353 1 803 5400.)

Thanks,
Jonathan

Re: Re: open office en Norton conflict

If the problem only affects the Norton subscription renewal page and not
other HTML pages, then I think that it might be a Norton problem and not
an OpenOffice problem (my opinion only). Please call Norton at 650
527-8000 or 011 31 (0)20-5040673, and let us know what they say.

Downloaded new version of open office

2014-10-27 Thread Gael Buckley

and all the files are saved read only.
All I did was
- buy a new hp15 f039 machine with windows 8.1- downloaded open office (just
like 3 days ago)- created a new simple text file (well, after I created a file
with photos in it, so I thought Id be simpler)      (just hit new, typed in two
sentences, and hit save as)   whether I save it as odt or doc or whatever, when
I try to reopen it, no changes are allowed.
That is all I did, I didnt customize the installation or anything.

Is it me, windows 8.1, or what?  I have an old open office on my old
toshiba, works fine.

First of all you probably want an App for the iPad instead of the iPod
I agree searching in the App Store is frustrating as you're unable to do
advance searches and you get results that don't have anything to do with
your request.

I have tried Documents U from Appsverse some time ago, it works with
simple spreadsheets, but I find it hard to do the more complex editing
on an iPad. There is a free version to test it before you buy the add
free version.

A few other options for you.

Add the "Insert" toolbar to the Toolbars you normally use.
Once you do that, you can use the Insert -> Fields to insert date in
various formats.

Alternatively, you can use keyboard shortcuts. Insert -> Date is
assigned as Alt+I+D. You may need to change the default styling to suit
your needs.

Thanks for your detailed problem description. Does the Toshiba have
Windows 8.1 also?

Assuming that the problem only happens on one computer, I would like to
double-check exactly what you mean by "read only": do you mean that the
file was saved to disk with read-only permissions? Or do you ONLY mean
that OpenOffice itself won't allow you to change the file, and that
"read-only" appears in the title bar?

What operating system are you using? As an initial troubleshooting
step, I wonder what happens if you reset your OpenOffice profile:

http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?p=58403

This will reset all your preferences to default (therefore, you might
want to rename the profile rather than delete it.)

Please post back to the list to let us know whether this fixes the
problem or not.

I think, yes, but am I not an expert of the Mac OS X operating system.

It would make sense to get in contact with experienced Mac OS X users in our
forum or on our
users mailing list (users@openoffice.apache.org)

Best regards, Oliver.

P.S.: Unfortuantely, I am not able to give personal support. Thus, please
continue further
communication on our mailing lists or in our forum. Then everybody can pick it
up and all
will benefit from the answers. Thx in advance.

Not sure that I fully understand the history of your problem, but I
understand you're trying to delete the saved application state file and
it won't allow you to. Do I understand correctly?

If that is the case, please describe exactly what steps you followed and
what error message you get, or what exactly happens when you put the
file in the trash. (Also, are you the only user or administrator of the
computer, or does the computer have multiple users?)

Thank you,
Jonathan
