The nature of the rogue menu will probably tell you what is happening
- but you've kept that a secret!

One possibility is that you have entered Edit Mode in the cell. To
see the context menu including Insert Comment, you need to have
selected the relevant cell, of course, such that the cell is outlined
with a heavy border. But if you double-click the cell (or press F2)
you will have entered Edit Mode - evidenced by the lack of the
border, a cursor within the cell, and the appearance of the red cross
and green tick mark to the left of the Input Line.

You can leave Edit Mode by pressing Esc. Note that even in Edit Mode
you can insert a comment using Insert | Comment or Ctrl+Alt+C.

On cells that have a comment why is there no EDIT command. How does
one edit an existing comment?

You simply use any of the techniques to insert a comment: these will
bring up any existing comment and you can edit it in place.

How does one resize a comment window?

o Use Show Comment from the context menu to toggle on the display of
the comment.

o Single-click the comment itself to show the eight coloured handles.
o Drag the handles as necessary. Alternatively use Position and
Size... from the context menu in the comment.
o If desired, use Show Comment from the context menu in the cell
again to toggle off the display of the comment.

I trust this helps.

I'm just guessing now. When you have the current program that is telling you
that the same program is also running, try going to the upper right hand corner
and click on the diminish symbol to make the program you are working on
disappear from the big screen and rest in its diminished form on the task bar.
Once the current screen is diminished, then anything that was working in the
background will appear. Good luck

 1. Start Apache OpenOffice (any application or the dashboard).

 2. On the menu bar, click through Tools > Options ... > OpenOffice > Memory
and under OpenOffice Quickstarter, *remove* the check mark for "Load OpenOffice
during system start-up"

 3. Close OpenOffice.

 4. Restart your PC

 5. When Windows 10 comes back up, you should now be able to uninstall AOO.

Re: Unable to Get Page Break Preview

2016-06-03 Thread Vince

Well, I have gone around in circles, today, for about 1.25 hours! :-[

However, I am happy :-) to be able to report that I now am able to see a
"normal" View>Page Break Preview on screen for each of the tabbed-sheets
within the /2016 My Bowling Score Data.ods/ file. It remains a mystery
to me, for now, what I actually had done to create this problem!

It turns out that I needed to /define a print range/ for each
tabbed-sheet; not to remove/delete those that already existed, within
that .ods file.

Thanks to Brian and to Girvin for taking their time to offer helpful
suggestions.

Now, I am back to redesigning the .ods file to include Brian's or
Dennis's formula for detecting hits of my bowling scores that fall
within specific /range bin-decades/, from 100 to 109, 110 to 119,
290 to 299, etc., and 300.

All tab-sheets, except for two, do not show the expected Page Break

cell data, the color of the characters are showing as white in those
cells. There are no indication of (blue) page breaks or watermarked-
Page numbers.

I have no idea how or why this has happened. (I probably did something
silly while jumping back and forth from one tab-sheet to another.)
After exiting AOO and after rebooting my computer, the problem
remains. I've checked several other Calc files, and they do not
exhibit this particular problem.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem and offer a solution?

Thanks for reading this.

Re: Unable to Get Page Break Preview

2016-06-03 Thread Girvin R. Herr

Vince,

By my experience this is the other way around. To be able to print a
sheet, a print range must be defined for that sheet, and defining a
print range for one sheet does not apply to the remaining sheets. If
you want to print all sheets, then all sheets must have a print range
defined. Personally, I think that all sheets' print ranges should
default to "Entire Sheet" when created, but the devs must not see it
that way, since this requirement has been around for years. To me, it
is a productivity time-waster to set the print ranges for each and every
sheet.

That's fairly easy, I think: your print ranges require nothing on those sheets
to be printed. Remember that print ranges do not operate independently for the
sheet they are on. This means that if you define a print range or ranges on one
sheet, nothing on any other sheet of the spreadsheet will print unless it is
also included in a print range.

I trust this helps.

Clay,

I use renamed sheets and it works for me, but be absolutely sure there
is no space to the left of the "=" in the expression. I spent a lot of
time troubleshooting this before I realized I had a space before the =.
The symptom is that the cell displays the expression (text), not the
data from the referenced cell. Also, I am not sure it is required, but
I make sure the referencing cell has the correct type for the referenced
data: number, currency, text, etc.

Re: Referencing a cell from previous worksheet in same spreadsheet file...

2016-06-03 Thread Jim McLaughlin
That will not work, but only for 1 value in the origin cell on sheet 1.

If the origin cell on sheet 1 undergoes a value change, that change will
not carry over to the target cell on sheet 2.

So if sheet 1's origin cell is dynamic, and its value is changed, by, say,
adding another number in to the origin cell [remember, the OP was using the
formula =SUM(:) in the origin cell on sheet 1] one needs o utilize the LINK
function in the "Paste Special"pop up / drop down screen.

Your proposal has been made before. I like it. But, like last time,
surely a handful of individuals on this list with an axe to grind
against Java will vote against it.

In fact, it makes so much sense now as it did 6 years ago. it was
Oracle's idea to rewrite OpenOffice.org into JavaFX, before the
"Freedom Fighters" who opposed the dual-licensing scheme of
OpenOffice.org (which allowed for the derivative StarOffice w
propietary add-ons), made their move and led Oracle to hand over OO.o
to the Apache foundation and lay off all its paid developers.

Oracle sees future of JavaFX with OpenOffice
http://www.fhshh.com/oracle-sees-the-future-of-javafx-with-openoffice.html

"At the JavaOne conference, Larry Ellison has sent a message to the
developers of the open source project, encouraging them to quickly
build libraries for JavaFX. This development language, introduced as a
competitor to Adobe AIR and FLex, and Silverlight (Microsoft) in the
design of rich Internet applications (RIAs)".

Unlike the situation at that time, now JavaFX can be made to work
inside browsers without plug-in via solutions like GluonHQ
https://mobile.twitter.com/JavaFX_Hulk/status/737541368067690497

...So, Oracle's idea -had it succeeded and not being stabbed in the
back by the LO Fork- would have meant that today there would be OO.o
and/or StarOffice on every mobile phone and tablet...

is a project http://openjdk.java.net/projects/mobile this will port OpenJDK to
